Nice BBC news report.

"President-elect Joe Biden says Americans won't be forced to take a coronavirus vaccine when one becomes available in the US."

One thing about dementia: Fifty years later, my dad remembered our family dog, Charlie, from the 1960s like he was still around. In fact, from time to time, dad thought he still was around. But, dad didn't remember yesterday. Or, last week. Or last year.

Our President, Joe Biden, lies like a rug. There's nothing evil about it. It's unintentional. BECAUSE HIS BRAIN IS GONE!

In his COVID speech yesterday, Joe broke his promise not to force Americans to be vaxxed and he didn't apologize. He didn't splain, and for good reason.

JOE DOESN'T REMEMBER HIS PROMISE. HE DOESN'T HAVE MUCH MORE THAN THE MOMENT HE'S IN!

COVID-19 certainly is bad enough. But, to have, as he's now known, that "dementia-ridden piece of crap" forcing, what?, 100,000,000 people to be vaxxed against their will?, how great can that be!!!!!?

You Big Brother lovers must think you're dreaming!!!!!

They aren't mandatory. What don't you understand about that? Has senility muddled your thinking?

For some people they will have the option of being vaccinated or not doing business with the government. Some can be vaccinated or choose not be employed by the government. Students in the Los Angeles school district will have the option of being vaccinated or attending school remotely.

Every eligible person who has had a recommendation of vaccination has had a choice. One thing that's changed, is that greater restrictions will be put on the unvaccinated and taken away from the vaccinated. Maybe we vaccinated will gain back the option finding an available bed and medical staff in the hospital.

I did notice that Joe scrupulously avoided the word, "mandate." I think you'll find the words requirement in the speech.

No, the dimwitted, feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap is going to strong arm the people hesitant and, in principle, opposed to being vaccinated into being vaccinated.

Parce the words as much as it brings you joy, but what Joe promised in December now means nothing.

  3. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2021 8:37 am
You call it being strong-armed. Today Dr. Francis Collins of the CDC said that Joe Biden is taking a more "muscular" approach to public health. Call it what you like, but because of purveyors of misinformation and the legions of the misinformed (largely Trump voters) it has become necessary for President Biden to be more forceful with unvaccinated for the good of the country. You go Joe!

Of course changing ones mind is not a symptom of dementia. Saying that it is, though, might be.

This mandate has already spawned a text message debate on my work team. One of my teammates is an anti-vaxxer. Ironically she caught COVID last year and missed 3 weeks of work, and then after she returned, she was under her doc's orders for a while to limit her work time to 4 hrs/day.

On one of her TMs this morning, she made the absurd claim that the flu accounts for more deaths than COVID in any single year. LOL! She was only off by a factor of 10. My supervisor and I corrected her. My supervisor ended up having to insist that we all cool it.

"For some people they will have the option of being vaccinated or not doing business with the government." - Curt

You do know, though, that the mandate effects ALL employers that have 100 or more employees, not just government workers - right?

We are at war with this thing, Hate. And it's like we're fighting a war while a large minority of our population is fighting for the other side.

It's truly sad that the cumulative stupidity and sociopathic selfishness of a great many in this country has forced Biden to go back on his promise. But here we are. Blame them, not him.

I'm sick of having to watch as we coddle and kowtow to the unimaginably stupid among us while their idiocy fosters and facilitates the spread of this thing. I'm sick of watching people around us get sick and die because of these stupid, pig-ignorant, selfish babies.

    Donna,
A mandate is an official order to do something--there are no options to a mandate. Workers where more than 100 people are employed can choose to be vaccinated, face weekly COVID testing or work for a smaller company. They will no longer have the option of infecting others.

    Curt,

You're attempting linguistic gymnastics as Bubba Clinton could perform them.

To paraphrase phrase Lloyd Benson, "Curt, I knew Bubba Clinton. Bubba Clinton was a friend of mine. Curt, you are no Bubba Clinton."

  9. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2021 11:02 am
It's Lloyd Bentsen. But that's a non sequitur no matter how you spell it. If you have an example of Biden calling for Covid vaccinations that meets the definition of mandate, let's hear it.

  10. by Ponderer on September 10, 2021 11:04 am

Ah great. The Professor of English who doesn't know the meaning of the phrase "almost all" is going to lecture us on linguistics now...

  11. by HatetheSwamp on September 10, 2021 11:07 am

It depends on what the meaning of "is" is.

Use whatever word you choose. Define it however you wish.

Joe is hoping to compel 100,000,000 people to be vaxxed. 100 freakin million!

  12. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2021 11:40 am
53.3 percent of the American's population is already vaccinated, according to the CDC's data. If Biden can induce, pressure, shame or cajole 100,000,000 people to be vaccinated that will mean that about 80% of our population is vaccinated. It's thought that herd immunity can be achieved with 70% of the population vaccinated. If we can sufficiently reduce the numbers of the unvaccinated, the virus won't be able to find new hosts to replicate and mutate into more contagious forms like the Delta virus.

  13. by HatetheSwamp on September 10, 2021 12:45 pm

Thanks for this, Curt. Is there a link you have with these numbers?

  14. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2021 12:51 pm
    HtS,
    Here you go...

As of 6 a.m. EDT Sept. 9, a total of 177,433,044 Americans had been fully vaccinated, or 53.4 percent of the country's population, according to the CDC's data.

Experts estimate that in the U.S., 70% of the population — more than 200 million people — would have to recover from COVID-19 to halt the pandemic.

100,000,000 is about 30% of the the US population which is 328,000,000.

    Thanks.

Apparently, you're basing your percentages on Americans of all ages?

  16. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2021 1:07 pm
    HtS,
I didn't scrutinize the CDC numbers before posting them, but yes to achieve herd immunity the ENTIRE population has to be considered. Children can infect other people, even though children themselves are less likely to die or to be hospitalized than adults.
