This completely made my day!

I'm giving even odds that even IF he actually makes it to Russia and doesn't get treated like the last Tzar, he'll "disappear" in Russia never to be heard from again. The Russians "may" feel gracious and allow his family to live. If he dies? The rest are with him in short order. He's too much of a political liability and made vlad the Impaler look stupid.

Assad and his family arrived in Moscow and will be granted asylum there as Russia is an ally of his regime, according to Russian state media. He decided on a "peaceful transfer of power" after gassing his own people with Clorine bombs and Sarin gas. He did this indiscriminately for decades. Eliminating whole villages

Something that wasn't a big deal here. Yes, it was on the news. It got about 10 seconds airtime on the nightlies and talk shows. This was "another man's war" as we would say. Americans didn't talk about it much unless you knew Syrians.

Joe said exactly the correct thing. saying "the U.S. sees “new opportunities opening up for the people of Syria and for the entire region,” and vowed to support U.S. allies in the region amid the transition of power and to prevent ISIS from taking advantage of the situation," adding the U.S. carried out “a dozen” airstrikes Sunday within Syria targeting ISIS camps and operatives.

Good job joe!

Folks in charge now are an Islamist rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and other anti-government forces. The group said it would work with Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali, who would maintain control over public institutions for the immediate future, The New York Times reported.

After decades of fighting, for the Syrians have been freed from actual tyranny.
Good for them.

السلام عليكم

No, It's arabic saying salam alaikum, It means "Peace be with you." (read right to left) That was to the Syrian people after all they put up with. It's truly a a great day for them. Hopefully they can have a few years of peace for awhile. People our sons' age have never seen peace in the country.

I was honestly hoping they would have found him before he left the country. He deserves everything they would give him. And I'm very aware of how brutal they are. Beating people to death is a sport for them. And everyone alive in the country has had family members murdered, gassed, raped or pillaged by either him or the Russians.

They need their day in their "court system."

I am not sad to see Assad go. Syrians seem happy about it. I have a feeling this will be a “meet the new boss, same as the old boss” situation.

Wow, I had no idea that any of this happened until I read your post, olde dude. If that's what Syrians want, I'm all for it.

On the face of it, it is good and it is a pity that Assad was not caught so that he could be tried for crimes against his people.

However, I find it confusing. The leading element in the takeover fight is a Jihadist group.

    Good time to reboot...

However, I find it confusing. The leading element in the takeover fight is a Jihadist group.

Islam allows for revolution against tyrants and dictators. I'm not really "happy" with the group either. It does make sense though because they're the only ones that could fight al Assad & the Russians at the same time. They claim it will be "taliban light" with some tweaks (not sure what that looks like🤔). At least the people won't be gassed and firebombed.

I'm not really sure how that's going to play in international politics. And the "hope" for not having terrorist camps there is pretty much out the window. During the 1970's- 1980's, jihaadists, IRA, PIRA (and a bunch of spin-offs), with RAF, Rota Brigada, and a bunch of the Euroterrorists in there randomly trained down there a lot. That's where the jihaadists learned to make bombs. From the Irish.

This also shows the Iranians/Chinese have their fingers in this and puts medium range missiles in North Africa. And the potential for nukes. So we'll see how that goes. This could also effectively close off all oil into southern Europe and allow silkworm missiles on the Med, and of course the straits of Hormuz are choked off by Iran.

The US has also been down there also. Russia threw a couple of hundred spetsnaz (the special forces of the GRU) against a short company ~40-60 Special Forces. They left the battlefield with less than half their people. Pretty funny.

As they say, "you can't always get what you want"

But if you try, sometimes, you get what you need.
