His tariff on Chinese goods will be 10%. Attention Walmart shoppers. Of course China, Canada and Mexico will retaliate with tariffs on American exported goods.

(NY Times)President-elect Donald J. Trump said on Monday that he would impose tariffs on all products coming into the United States from Canada, Mexico and China on his first day in office, a move that would scramble global supply chains and impose heavy costs on companies that rely on doing business with some of the world’s largest economies.

In a post on Truth Social, Mr. Trump mentioned a caravan of migrants making its way to the United States from Mexico, and said he would use an executive order to levy a 25 percent tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico until drugs and migrants stopped coming over the border.

“This Tariff will remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country!” the president-elect wrote.

“Both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily solve this long simmering problem,” he added. “We hereby demand that they use this power, and until such time that they do, it is time for them to pay a very big price!”

So you're also supporting slave labour (which we already know by defending the rape trees). And you hate workers in the US. Well done! welldone.

Of course, you don't have to worry about any other person but yourself. You're a slum lord and doing quite well for yourself. So why worry about the single parent family? That makes no sense. They should be able to "pick themselves up by the bootstraps. Right?

When the liberals talk about an elitist white prick, your picture is in the dictionary.

Here are the facts. As you and princess have said, there are as many human slaves and drugs coming through the ports (mostly BC/WA) as through the borders (north and south). The reservations are known drug trafficking areas. And it's killing their people. And you being the privileged white american prig, is the reason for it by refusing to believe the problem exists. Check with your imaginary son in LAS. If he actually trusts you (I wouldn't) he'd tell you how bad you made it by turning your blind eyes.

  2. by Indy! on November 25, 2024 11:27 pm

I was going to say the funniest part of all this is OD and the other Brown Shorts believing he was actually going to do this stuff (“stop all drugs” 😂). But with OD signaling his ignorance loud and clear in the post above, it would be a moot point now.

    The NYT!

One good thing about Trump. He keeps his campaign promises... even when his overlords at Project 2025 don't like it, baha.

There'll be four fun years for ole pb.

princess, your proctologist called! They found your head.

  5. by Indy! on November 26, 2024 8:58 am

The only promise the orange ass monkey kept last time was the huge, unnecessary tax cut for the super wealthy and that will be the only promise he keeps this time. He couldn't care less about America and - like OD - has absolutely no idea what the Constitution means.

  6. by meagain on November 26, 2024 9:05 am

It will be interesting to see whether he dares to carry it out. I think it is just bluster.

First, the problem at the Canadian border is the opposite as tens of thousands crossed from the US into Canada during his first catastrophe. So many, that Quebec in particular is still having to be bailed out by the federal government to cope with the numbers. It ended with the negotiation of the Safe Third Party Country agreement.

Drug smuggling is everywhere. I wonder what the 9 million Americans whose jobs depend on trade with Canada will think particularly when many, perhaps most, are in States that went for Trump. Or how you will like the price increases in your stores or at the gas pump since 80" of the 4 million barrels daily of imported oil comes from Canada. Tongue in cheek, I wrote today to our Prime Minister suggesting some countermeasures:

Since the vast majority of gun crimes and homicides are carried out with illegal guns and 80% of those are smuggled from the USA, a modest 5% tariff on all manufactured goods imported from the USA until it implements adequate border controls.

10% Profit tax on American oil and auto companies. (About 80% of our oil production is by American-owned corporations and around 50% of the Auto industry).

Pulling the plug on Hydroc connections. That will put 3 or 4 States in the dark. Or alternately, a 25% export duty.

Closing of American bases in Canada and thereby throwing a large wrench into defence strategies and plans.

Banning the export of Durum wheat to the US so that it will have to live without Pasta.

I could have thought of more, but it makes the point.

The Canadian and American economies are too integrated to be left to the maniacal administrations of a madman.

Thanjs fir the info, meagain. Obviously the Trump team hasn't thought their harebrained tariff plan through.

  11. by HatetheSwamp on November 26, 2024 11:12 am

10-1, the Canada/Mexico tariffs will never happen.

Trump is making this public so far in advance because this is a negotiating tactic. Nuthin more.

  12. by Curt_Anderson on November 26, 2024 11:16 am
In addition to the Canadian items that Meagain mentioned, currently in our fridge we have canola oil and maple syrup, both products of Canada.

Mexico supplies much of the produce in our grocery stores, especially early in the spring before US fruits and vegetables are harvested. Mexican bananas and avocados are available all year long.

Mexico's new president has already promised retaliatory tariffs on US goods.

  13. by HatetheSwamp on November 26, 2024 11:26 am

    Curt,

If I didn't know better, I'd take you to be a contributor to the Project 2025 document. What happened to classic progressive protectionism!!!!!?

    Could it be deranged TrumpHate?

  14. by Curt_Anderson on November 26, 2024 11:38 am
    HtS,
I have never written a word in favor of protectionist policies. I oppose tariffs including those proposed and implemented by Democrats. Recently in a thread started by Donna in which you praised tariffs I explained why tariffs are bad.

When there was some ethical reason, such as an item being made by child slave labor, I would favor totally banning the import of that product, not slapping a tax (tariff) on it.

I think I've only expressed cynicism about the effectiveness of tariffs. I have, though, mocked our SS progressives for being totally Project 2025 on Trump’s tariffs proposals.

Totally forgot Mexico has a woman president. Going to be funny watching the Commander in Thief get continually one-upped by a strong, independent woman. He'll be crapping his pants every time he talks to her.

  18. by oldedude on November 26, 2024 7:38 pm
Interesting that a couple of hours after trumpster announced this, Mexico announced the mass immigration groups have been turned around, and canada gave us a call. Note the trade agreement between canada/mexico and the US is up right after trumpster gets into office. So the negotiations have already begun.

I say this because those too stupid to understand global negotiations always say "this is what trumpster is going to do." No, this was his opening bid. The reactions are just that. If they don't like what he's saying, he'll counter. The difference between pedojoe/kammy is that trumpster usually carries out what he says. He doesn't threaten with something he's not willing to do. They also know that. So I just sit back and laugh and watch the sheep freak out because they don't understand what's going on🤣.

  19. by Curt_Anderson on November 26, 2024 9:12 pm
The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) prohibits member countries from unilaterally imposing tariffs on one another. The USMCA was Trump's rebranding of NAFTA. Trump is threatening to violate his own trade deal.

Many of us already knew Trump lies without compunction. But being dishonest so flamboyantly about a trade deal he ballyhooed is new level of dishonestly and underhandedness. Why would any other country's government, state government, Congress, business or any individuals ever trust him to keep his word on any agreement?

  20. by Indy! on November 26, 2024 9:29 pm

Trump accomplished nothing as president outside of another huge tax cut for the super wealthy and failing to bring down the government of the USA with his hissy fit a couple weeks before Joe was inaugurated. He's failed at everything he's attempted in life. The ONLY reason he was elected president is because the super wealthy like Leon know they can push his fat ass around and make him do whatever they want simply by pretending they like him and showering him with false praise they laugh about amongst themselves later. That and they know they'll get another huge tax cut from him. Mayor McFatass couldn't even build his stupid wall in 4 years, yet idiots like OD believe he's going to stop the drugs coming into America - something no American president (or any other president of any other country) has ever accomplished. Stupidity knows no bounds with the Brown Shorts.

Don't you know anything about "negotiation?" He wouldn't if that was one of the tools he didn't pass that same clause during the USMCA negotiations during the first couple of months of his office. This is the second time I've gone over this.

  23. by oldedude on November 27, 2024 7:26 am
I think she understands negotiating. Americans are known for being horrible negotiators, for the one's that "don't get it" is just that. My guess is that most of the leaders working with trumpster have read "The Art of the Deal" just to understand how to work with him. You can say what you want either way, but trumpster knows that it isn't what you say in public, it's what you do in private. He always allows leaders to boast how good they are mostly to save face to their country. Fine. Nothing wrong with that. It's what they do quietly.

That's how the entire MAGA media are reporting it, but I'm guessing that you haven't read Sheinbaum's full statement, the context. The operation Sheinbaum referred to commenced about a year ago and is in no way connected to anything Trump has said or done. If you don't believe me, read the entirety of what she said.

MAGAs gonna lie. All we can do is expose the truth.

  25. by Donna on November 27, 2024 9:08 am

Sheinbaum said "encounters at the Mexico–United States border have decreased by 75 percent between December 2023 and November 2024. Moreover, half those who arrive do so through a legally scheduled appointment under the United States' CBP One program. For these reasons, migrant caravans no longer arrive at the border."

Really, now. Which MAGA media sources do you follow? Baha,... ha!

"Don't you know anything about "negotiation?" He wouldn't if that was one of the tools he didn't pass that same clause during the USMCA negotiations during the first couple of months of his office. This is the second time I've gone over this"

It is Trump who does not know anything about negotiation. He puffs and blows his demands while his opposites run rings around him. The only significant change from NAFTA to CUSMA (our term for it) was the removal, of a clause that made it possible for American companies to sue the Canadian government for actions they did not like relating to trade. A win for Canada.

Illegal immigrants? There was a spike last year in those entering through Canada to .07% of the total. Before that, it had been .02%.

The man is a walking absurdity.

  28. by Indy! on November 27, 2024 9:40 am

OD: My guess is that most of the leaders working with trumpster have read "The Art of the Deal" just to understand how to work with him.

BWA-HA-HA-HA!!!! Etc... etc... Of course OD thinks Trump wrote that book. Because that's the story on Fox. 😂

Tony Schwartz (the actual author of The Art of the Deal - he even came up with the name for the book)...

I was a little surprised when Trump announced his candidacy in Trump Tower, and within several sentences he said, “We need a president who wrote The Art of the Deal." And I thought, well, I wrote The Art of the Deal; I’m not sure I actually would make a good president. And then I thought, wow, that’s predictable for Trump. He actually probably has gotten to the point where he thinks he did write it.

    ...

I wrote The Art of the Deal, and Donald Trump read it, so far as I know in a couple of hours based on the number of marks he made on the manuscript.

    ...

Well, I think Trump probably thought you snap your finger and there’s a book, so I think he was a little surprised to discover that it was actually going to take a lot of time, and he wasn’t happy about it. I think one of the central under-recognized facts about Trump is how severely limited his attention span is. It’s really, really hard for Trump to focus on much of anything for a sustained period of time, with the exception of talking about himself.

    ...

You know, Trump said to me over and over again, “I’m just not interested in the past; I’m interested in the present." From a Buddhist perspective, that would be pretty attractive. … The reason I think he didn’t want to talk about the past is that he’s almost like a sieve or a black hole, and the need for constant reassurance and evidence that he matters, that he’s great, that he’s successful, that he’s handsome, that he’s all of these things, represents a kind of unquenchable thirst. So most of his time is spent trying to fill himself back up, because it’s leaking all the time.

The operation Sheinbaum referred to commenced about a year ago and is in no way connected to anything Trump has said or done. If you don't believe me, read the entirety of what she said.

Sheinbaum's nothing more than a patsy for the cartels just like the last three presidents of Mexico. They "may" lie and say they're going to do something, and then the payments and threats start coming in. And then someone grabs the child of a cabinet member, and the "president" gets a phone call and an envelope is delivered with their children on the pictures. Sheinbaum's already got the word. she'll be rich just like all the other Mexican politicians' and media folks that haven't been murdered. And many of the people that have been murdered and hung on bridges.*

There's more of an explanation in your other thread.

*This is a link to that reference. I didn't want to put it in the link section.

Curt- your "canola" oil is nothing but cheap rapeseed oil made in canada. It was named that because they needed something that stupid people would buy. It has one of the worst ratings for cooking oil you can get and is one of the worst for you because of how it's overprocessed. It is slightly better for you than beef tallow or Crisco.

And if you actually support the US (which I've doubted for a very long time), why not buy US made maple syrup?

What is wrong with you? Your America First(ism) is as bad as Trump's. And as ill founded.

Canola oil is 100% cholesterol-free: as good as corn oil but cheaper. In every respect it is as nutritious a grain as any other. It is made in Canada because the climate is better for growing Canola than is the American.

Also, you buy Canadian Maple Syrup because Canada produces more than twice as much as the USA, again for climatic regions. You could not produce a quarter of what the demand is. It may get worse, too as the growing area is warming and the capability is shifting further north.
