In response to a question about whether he thought Mr. Trump was a fascist, Trump’s former chief of staff, General John Kelly first read aloud a definition of fascism that he had found online.

“Well, looking at the definition of fascism: It’s (1) a far-right authoritarian, (2) ultranationalist political ideology and movement (3) characterized by a dictatorial leader, (4) centralized autocracy, (5) militarism, (6) forcible suppression of opposition, (7) belief in a natural social hierarchy,” he said.

Mr. Kelly said that definition accurately described Mr. Trump.

    Thing is, Curt:

Trump ain't far right. That's why DC SwampGOPs don't like him. Truth? Of all the candidates for the 024 GOP nomination Trump was the closest to the center and most pragmatic.

Trump absolutely opposes militarism. In fact, you yourself have, on numerous occasions, belittled MAGAs over their opposition to the war in Ukraine.

    *****

Here's a hint about how this election is going: The DC SwampDems are floundering because they are campaigning against Trump as a fascist but he ain't one...

... and moderate and independent common sense voters have enuff friggin common sense to figure that out.

Trump is despicable. But, he ain't a fascist.

  3. by Indy! on October 24, 2024 10:25 am

You're not moderate or common sense. You're the farthest right you can get. And so is Trump and the other MAGAts. You're racists, bigots and fascists... and you know it.

"Trump absolutely opposes militarism. In fact, you yourself have, on numerous occasions, belittled MAGAs over their opposition to the war in Ukraine." ---HtS

Trump does not oppose the war in Ukraine. He opposes Ukraine. Trump has called Putin a "genius" and "very savvy" for his Ukraine invasion. Nor does Trump oppose militarism.

Trump suggests he’ll use the military on ‘the enemy from within’ the U.S. if he’s reelected
“I think the bigger problem is the enemy from within,” Trump said. He added: “We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think they’re the big — and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military, because they can’t let that happen.”

Trump has repeatedly invoked the phrase “enemy from within” in recent speeches. On Saturday, he used it to refer to Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a prominent Trump critic who oversaw the congressional investigation that led to Trump’s first impeachment. Schiff is now running for the Senate.

Trump is a fascist. Trump is aided and abetted by Trump voters.

    HtS,
As I said in another thread, Trump's lickspittles will first deny he ever said the fascist or other offensive remark he was quoted as saying. Your denouncing the news sources is totally on brand.

OK, here are some conservative news outlets reporting that Trump wants to use the military on "the enemies within". That's your cue to deny that Trump really meant what he said.

Harris just confirmed that she thinks he is a Fascist.

This is the 14 points of Fascism bur Umberto ECo, who knew Fascism and lived with it.

The cult of tradition. “One has only to look at the syllabus of every fascist movement to find the major traditionalist thinkers. The Nazi gnosis was nourished by traditionalist, syncretistic, occult elements.”
The rejection of modernism. “The Enlightenment, the Age of Reason, is seen as the beginning of modern depravity. In this sense, Ur-Fascism can be defined as irrationalism.”
The cult of action for action’s sale. “Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation.”
Disagreement is treason. “The critical spirit makes distinctions, and to distinguish is a sign of modernism. In modern culture, the scientific community praises disagreement as a way to improve knowledge.”
Fear of difference. “The first appeal of a fascist or prematurely fascist movement is an appeal against the intruders. Thus Ur-Fascism is racist by definition.”
Appeal to social frustration. “[…] one of the most typical features of the historical fascism was the appeal to a frustrated middle class, a class suffering from an economic crisis or feelings of political humiliation, and frightened by the pressure of lower social groups.
The obsession with a plot. “The followers must feel besieged. The easiest way to solve the plot is the appeal to xenophobia.”
The enemy is both weak and strong. “[…] the followers must be convinced that they can overwhelm the enemies. Thus, by a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak.”
Pacifism is trafficking with the enemy. “For Ur-Fascism there is no struggle for life but, rather, life is lived for struggle.”
Contempt for the weak. “Elitism is a typical aspect of any reactionary ideology.”
Everybody is educated to become a hero. “in Ur-Fascist ideology, heroism is the norm. This cult of heroism is strictly linked with the cult of death.”
Machismo and Weaponry. “This is the origin of machismo (which implies both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality). Since even sex is a difficult game to play, the Ur-Fascist hero tends to play with weapons—doing so becomes an ersatz phallic exercise.”
Selective Populism. “There is in our future a TV or Internet populism, in which the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and accepted as the Voice of the People.
Ur-Fascism speaks Newspeak. “All the Nazi or Fascist schoolbooks made use of an impoverished vocabulary, and an elementary syntax, in order to limit the instruments for complex and critical reasoning.”

And this is 14 points according to the American Lawrence Britt

    Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

    Supremacy of the Military
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

    Rampant Sexism
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.

    Controlled Mass Media
Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

    Obsession with National Security
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

    Religion and Government are Intertwined
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

    Corporate Power is Protected
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

    Labor Power is Suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed .

Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.

    Obsession with Crime and Punishment
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

    Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

    Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

Good grief, HtS, you are deep denial of reality. But I get it. That's why you voted for Trump. I am curious, does cognitive dissonance cause problems sleeping?

Here is what the NY Post published:
“We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think they’re the — and it should be very easily handled by — if necessary, by National Guard or, if really necessary, by the military, because they can’t let that happen,” he added.

The FOX channel's headline was "Trump suggests using National Guard, military against ‘enemy from within’"

    The Washington Examiner reported:
On Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures, Trump was asked by host Maria Bartiromo if he was “expecting chaos” on Election Day. “No, I don’t think so, not from the side that votes for Trump,” the former president replied. “I think the bigger problem is the enemy from within.”

“We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think it should be very easily handled by — if necessary, by the National Guard or, if really necessary, by the military, because they can’t let that happen.”

Exactly. No one disputes that Trump said that. But, what's the context? Are you afraid to link to the actual interview?

To whom was he referring as those "very bad people?"

I agree with him. We'll have another "summer of love" event. Lead by Antifada, and all the other mixtures of the left that burns down buildings, government buildings, so the dim gov's can open up their windows and say, "I love burning tires in the morning. It smells like. like VICTORY!"*

*Thanks to Robert Duvall & Francis Ford Coppola

Jebus. You can't even keep your imaginary bad guys straight? It's ANTIFA as in ANTI-FASCIST. We can see why you hate them - because you are a Trumper making you PRO-fascist. But at least get the name right. Or did you not learn how to spell when you were getting that degree in child pornography?
