TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Before former President Donald Trump could appear in Tucson a second time, his campaign had to make a deposit of $145,222.70 upfront.

The required deposit came about because Trump failed to pay an $81,837 bill from a campaign event he held at the Tucson Convention Center in 2016.

The bill was for 180 police officers to patrol inside and outside of the TCC for 6 1/2 hours.

“You know, the former president is entitled to come to anywhere he wants in Arizona,” said Tucson Mayor Regina Romero. “It’s up to the Trump campaign to pay their bills.”

The last time Trump was here, it turned out to be a violent affair with a protestor being sucker punched during the former president’s speech.
But even with the violence, what’s been most memorable about that 2016 event is that the campaign skipped town without paying its bill.

Tucson is just one of many communities where the Trump campaign held events but failed to pay for the security provided by local police.

Mesa is still owed more than $64,000. In El Paso, Texas, the bill exceeds $400,000.

“It’s important to provide those services,” Romero said. “Bottom line, the most important thing that we need to provide, as a government, is the ability to protect the former president.”

“The city sent a letter to the campaign six months after the event saying “this letter serves as a demand for payment,” which was ignored.

Still, the city will roll out the police again on Thursday for another Trump event but in order not to be burned again, the city changed its rules.

It said all payments for use of city facilities must be made in advance. According to the city, the Trump campaign has done so. A copy of the agreement between the two sides can be read HERE and at the bottom of this storm.

They should have treated Trump like the Jersey Boys… wait until the rally is over and then arrest him and hold him until they get paid. 😃

I figured she'd make a statement like this...

    A Statement From Linda Ronstadt
    Sept. 11, 2024
    San Francisco

Donald Trump is holding a rally on Thursday in a rented hall in my hometown, Tucson. I would prefer to ignore that sad fact. But since the building has my name on it, I need to say something.

It saddens me to see the former President bring his hate show to Tucson, a town with deep Mexican-American roots and a joyful, tolerant spirit.

I don’t just deplore his toxic politics, his hatred of women, immigrants and people of color, his criminality, dishonesty and ignorance — although there’s that.

For me it comes down to this: In Nogales and across the southern border, the Trump Administration systematically ripped apart migrant families seeking asylum. Family separation made orphans of thousands of little children and babies, and brutalized their desperate mothers and fathers. It remains a humanitarian catastrophe that Physicians for Human Rights said met the criteria for torture.

There is no forgiving or forgetting the heartbreak he caused.
Trump first ran for President warning about rapists coming in from Mexico. I’m worried about keeping the rapist out of the White House.

    Linda Ronstadt

    P.S. to J.D. Vance:
I raised two adopted children in Tucson as a single mom. They are both grown and living in their own houses. I live with a cat. Am I half a childless cat lady because I’m unmarried and didn’t give birth to my kids? Call me what you want, but this cat lady will be voting proudly in November for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz .

It might also be noted that initially, Trump wanted to hold his rally at a venue here that holds 9,000 people. He later settled on the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall. Which seats about two thousand.

The population of Tucson is a little over a half million.

And you wonder why MAGAs hide from pollsters the fact that they support Trump.

  4. by Donna on September 12, 2024 10:22 am

That music hall is only a little over 8 miles (17 min drive) from where we live. It might be fun to go up there and protest the Fat Orange Thing.

They should. And you and OD should be embarrassed for supporting Pharoah Fatso. The first time around you had an excuse - we didn't know what Trump was going to do. Now we know and you still support him.

But Indy!, we'll be wearing KAMALA t-shirts with HARRIS/WALZ buttons all over them. We'd probably be maimed.

Go undercover - wear your Bernie shirt. 👍
