The Trump campaign promoted an outlandish false claim on Monday that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, have abducted and eaten their neighbors’ pets, again demonizing migrants as the campaign seeks to attack Vice President Kamala Harris on immigration.

A news release from the campaign on Monday recounted the falsehoods, which were amplified earlier in the day by former President Donald J. Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, and sought to stoke fear, saying “it’s coming to your city next.”

Mr. Vance, as Ohio’s junior senator, has in recent months attacked the growing Haitian population in Springfield, a group whose members are living and working in the United States legally.

Trump and Vance know that bigotry sells in MAGA world. As HtS reminds us, Trump supporters are liars so they have a no qualms with lying candidates.

Well, we do know that several of your buddies, the cartels, eat human flesh. Especially that of young girls, so I'm not sure if this is worse than that...

And you're still supporting it. Regardless.

And Santeria it's kin to Vodun. Yes, they do eat "pets." That's true. In the "best" ways, this is done as a sacrifice of "honor" in Vodun. In Santeria also. Except now, it's a blasphemy of the religion and it's only to gain power. In this case, it's Vodun. Home of the Zombie (yes, they actually can exist on a scientific level).

So maybe you ought to get out of your egocentric shallow, world.

    OD,
I hear what you are saying. Unfortunately from the Trump-Vance perspective, their warning about pet-eating immigrants resulted in nothing but negative headlines. The good news for them, is that the media is not talking Trump denigrating the military.

JD Vance repeats baseless claim Haitian immigrants are eating pets as Ohio officials say there is no evidence

Vance pushes false accusations of Haitians eating pets

Ohio police have 'no credible reports' of Haitian immigrants harming pets, contradicting JD Vance's claim

Does is matter if it's true? You only believe in your "political view" not in reality.

  4. by oldedude on September 9, 2024 8:58 pm
my point is that in the real world there are things that one culture understands as "true" and the other culture doesn't respect as "real." When I say you're "Naive" I mean that very specifically. they claim they can raise you from the dead. Well,, kindasorta. That's why in Haiti,, they fill the mouths of the dead with salt. It's actually a prevention of becoming a "zombie d'astral" (zombie of the "aire") or a "zombi cadavre" (zombie of the flesh). The chemical need for a lack of sodium is needed for a zombi. The difference is the amount of bone material placed in the Poudre du zombi. They place more skull (bone) material in persons that committed crimes, or slaves. The Tetrodotoxin (puffer fish and Boufa toad) acts like ketamine, it doesn't shut down the brain, just the frontal cortex of the brain. rendering the victim a slave to whatever they're told. and doesn't allow them to move without being brought out of it to a certain extent (thusly the salt).

In Haiti, zombies not only exist in movies, but as a day-to-day reality that is steeped in Voodoo, which revolves around spirits known as lwa. In Haitian Voodoo (or Haitian Vodou) the Iwa spirits get their names and attributes from traditional West and Central African divinities, and they are also equated with certain Roman Catholic saints.

Bingo, bubba. That's bull$#!t, or, as po'd say, EFFINbull$#!t... but, it's woke, white electric limousine lovin progressive Swampcult Conventional Wisdom.

And, it's what motivates MAGAs to lie to SwampPollsters.

You wanna know why 538 underestimated Trump's vote in 020 by 3.9%? Why pb thinks it likely that they're telling a bigger lie in 024?

These people are, simply, mommies and daddies and nannas and pappaps who merely want to raise their kids without Big Brother intrusion... and to live quiet lives.

They don't want to be thought of as evil. They ain't evil. So, they are, literally, the Silent Majority... AT THE POLLS.

Congrats, Curt. You just presented us with some Performance Art!

What are you so worked up about?

We both agree that MAGA cultists are liars. You offered a theory about motivates them to lie. They are predisposed to lying and believing liars, imho.

"They are predisposed to lying and believing liars, imho."

    Baha. Nice. More Performance Art.

That's a large part of the fabric that makes up any cult. It's why people follow cult leaders. They willingly and voraciously believe the lies they are told. Like how Hate will always follow, support, and defend his orange cult leader. He desperately at least wants to believe Trump's blithering nonsense.

  14. by HatetheSwamp on September 10, 2024 10:02 am

So, po. What do you think about why polls consistently underestimate Trump's support/vote.

  15. by Donna on September 10, 2024 10:09 am

538 didn't underestimate Trump's support in 2020 - the GOP cheated like they do in every election, but they didn't cheat as proficiently as they did in 2016. I can't prove it, but I know that that's what happened. Hillary should have incited a riot to try to overturn the election results.

curt- Here's another issue you conveniently didn't put in. The city of Springfield is 58,000, the metro area is 158,000. Almost overnight, they had 20,000 Haitians dumped into their city.

Haiti is notorious for most of the tropical diseases known that humans get. The Haitian infrastructure is "okay" on it's finest day for the rich, but generally non-existent on their side of the island. Haiti has been close to civil war for the past year because the government is being overrun by gangs v. a severely non-responsive and corrupt government. The government is so corrupt, the French just walked out on it in 1804 and let the Haitians kill themselves.

So given that, Springfield had no warning they were about to expand their population by 20,000 (almost 30%). There was no thought about housing, infrastructure, Hospitals (as mentioned above), law enforcement, or anything else the city is responsible for. For Haitians, "armed conflict" reflects one of the major health threats in the country. For people that are used to gang wars, it stands to reason at least some of that will transfer to Ohio.

For the hospitals especially. This is Ohio. Dengue fever is unknown by medical staff, as well as Cholera outbreaks, with 82,000 cases reported between October 2022 and April 2024 in Haiti. An extremely high incidence of tuberculosis, facilitated by housing conditions and overcrowding. This would also have an extremely detrimental effect on the local population if the Haitians are not wearing masks and practicing COVID protocol. For the most part, Haitians are extremely prone to food source problems. There is a maternal mortality ratio for 2020 was estimated at 350.4 deaths per 100 000 live births.

One citizen of Springfield used to take time at the park and spoke about the Haitians grabbing up ducks and cutting their heads off and walking away with the ducks. An elderly woman spoke about squatters on their front yard yelling at her. Neither her or her husband have any way to protect themselves from this onslaught and are truly scared of the groups. The citizens that need help with food or medical care can't get in to the offices because social services has at least doubled their clientele and cutting their resources by a huge amount.

Putting aside Odie's obviously googled info... does anyone on the board outside of me actually know any Haitians? Do you have any Haitian neighbors? Have you ever had a conversation with one? Have you ever worked beside them on the job? Because they are some of the nicest, most humble and law-respecting people on the planet. The only problem I have with them is they drive the damn speed limit when everyone else is a minimum of 10mph over. They don't eat "pets" which is a very flexible term depending on your culture.

Santeria? Voodoo? I got some stories - but not worth mentioning here because it will just be more "crazy Indy" stuff to you guys.

  20. by meagain on September 10, 2024 11:29 am
15-20 years ago, the Governor General of Canada was a Haitian woman and former immigrant: Micahaelle Jean. The Province of Quebec has had tens of thousands of Haitian immigrants with no problems beyond normal for any group. They gom to Quebec first because of the language.

  21. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2024 11:52 am
    Indy,
I know some Haitians...technically. She and her sister are close to my son's age. They are the adopted daughters of out current mayor. They were toddlers when adopted and brought to Oregon. The daughter I know better was my son's classmate. She won an athletic/academic scholarship to an eastern college.

  22. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 12:43 pm

That is the more common end result when they move here - they acclimate and respect the laws and customs like most immigrants. OD's post is a glimpse inside of the racist culture of America - he did exactly what JD Vance did - taking some cultural differences of the two countries and using them to demonize people they don't like. While I'm sure those Springfield folks are "scared" of Haitians just like they're scared of all black folks - that is no reason to make shit up about them.

  23. by oldedude on September 10, 2024 1:19 pm
Except the folks that live there all of a sudden lost their health care and social services. This have been a stories in many cities and towns, especially those that called themselves "sanctuary Cities." All of a sudden there are no services for those who pay taxes there. Look at what happened twice in Aurora, CO. Those living in the apartments moved for their own safety. Chicago is another example. When the taxpayers get screwed over for goods and services, because of folks that don't pay taxes it pisses them off.

And actually, I didn't do much with googling up shit on the voudun and sanitaria information. As I said, this was my anthropology BA thesis. I did look up fresh information on the illnesses in the country and maternal death rates. I think the ducks thing was nothing more than food for them. The birds didn't belong to anyone, so they were killed and eaten. These are not the educated people like they were in Venezuela that are leaving. This is the bottom of the barrel. The rich in Haiti can afford to buy citizenship where they want. Not much has changed since the generations before poppa, momma, and baby doc.

This is a good example of how far the GOP has fallen. 44 years ago Republicans were worried about voodoo economics. Today they are worried about voodoo.

LOL! that, and the "late great actor, Hannibal Lechter.

  27. by Curt_Anderson on September 10, 2024 2:01 pm
    OD,
Besides Donna's question, what make you think that immigrants (legal or not) don't pay taxes? They don't get a pass on paying sales tax when they shop. If they rent, the property tax is built into the rent they pay. Like any taxpayer, if they make over a certain amount, they pay income tax. If they are working under the table, their employer is taking advantage of them and underpays them.

Immigrant workers, legal or not, if their employer complies with law, are paying SS tax but they are not eligible for Social Security retirement benefits. Only legal immigrants after a certain period and amount paid in can collect SS benefits. Therefore many immigrants are paying into a system from which they may never receive benefits. It's a similar story with other social programs like Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment benefits, etc. Immigrants pay in, but they don't benefit from those programs.

  28. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 2:37 pm

You want to talk about cities REALLY being "overrun" by an influx of immigrants? I lived in Miami during the Mariel Boatlift. Springfield had 20K people added to their city? We had anywhere from 125K to 250K depending on your source. And back then - Castro actually DID open up the jails and mental institutions and sent them over with the regular folks who wanted out.

  29. by Indy! on September 10, 2024 7:16 pm

If they're in the lucrative businesses you approve of (slinging fentanyl, renting women by the minute) they're not paying taxes on that. If they're getting paid cash by folks, they're not paying taxes. If they're pedojr, they're not paying taxes on they're kickbacks, graft and corruption.

  40. by oldedude on September 12, 2024 8:27 pm
Fox has nothing to do with it. The difference in you and me is that I actually think there's evil in the world. You live in a world of sunshine, lollypops, rainbows and everything nice. I happen to know that your "buddies" slinging dope are not good people. They live off of killing others. And where there's dope, they're renting women. You (and so many others) have this incredibly naive view this doesn't exist. I know it does. You still believe that Hamas are good folks and "may" be a little twisted but are normal people. I don't think that's true. I don't believe that anyone that could do that to another human being is anywhere near "normal."

And maybe to you they are "normal." I don't know. If it is, you're just another one of them. And should be treated as such.

So you read some books on their health issues and now you can make shit up about them? Hey wait a minute.... does that mean you think I'm Haitian?

Like I said. It was actually a college thesis. It's a study of ethnomedicine and Ethnomedicobotany in the Hatian culture. I know you had nothing like this in "comic""art" "school."

And the Haitians would have murdered you for being stupid a long time ago.

  42. by Indy! on September 13, 2024 1:17 am

It appears that the problems in Springfield are greatly exaggerated. I numbers and in behaviour. The Haitians chose Springfield because of the job opportunities. They want to work.

"One big question: Why did Haitians start moving to Springfield in the first place?

Reporter Lynn Husley, who has extensively covered the Haitian community there, says this: “They are attracted to a community that has plentiful job opportunities and supportive services for them.”

Hulsey says sources she has interviewed report those who come to Springfield will tell their family and friends back home they can find affordable living in Springfield as well.

Our reporting also shows the Haitian population may be more around 12,000-15,000. That’s according to Mayor Rob Rue, who conducted a news conference in the city on Sept. 10. That number comes from the Clark County Health District and other partners."

The Orange tub-o-lard and his partner are spreading hatred and creating turmoil wherever they go. I'm predicting that most Americans will vote against all of that in November.

    From the NY Times:

After Bomb Threats and Political Vitriol, Ohio Mayor Says Enough

Springfield, which has attracted thousands of Haitians, has been at the center of a fiery immigration debate and baseless rumors amplified by Donald J. Trump and JD Vance.

The mayor of the Ohio city at the center of a firestorm over immigration says that his town needs help — not the hate that has been stirred by politicians and extremists.

“We are hurting,” the mayor of Springfield, Rob Rue, said in an interview with The New York Times on Thursday.

The tensions over the growing Haitian population in Springfield exploded this week after former President Donald J. Trump used the presidential debate to spread debunked rumors that Haitians were stealing pets and eating them.

On Thursday, bomb threats led to the evacuation of Springfield City Hall, two schools and the state motor vehicle agency’s local facility...

While the arrival of thousands of Haitian immigrants has strained schools and some government services, most of the Haitians are in the United States legally and many have filled jobs in local industry.

But it was the death of 11-year-old Aiden Clark, killed last year when his school bus was struck by a minivan driven by a Haitian immigrant, that began fueling anger and anxiety, ultimately thrusting Springfield into a vitriolic national debate over immigration.

On Tuesday, Mr. Vance referred to Aiden in a post on X, saying that “a child was murdered by a Haitian migrant.”

Later that day, Aiden’s father, Nathan Clark, lashed out at Mr. Vance and others he said were exploiting his son’s death for political gain.

"My son was not murdered. He was accidentally killed by an immigrant from Haiti,” Mr. Clark, a teacher, said at a Springfield City Commission meeting.

“This tragedy is felt all over this community, the state and even the nation, but don’t spin this towards hate,” he continued.

Yet, it was not too long into the presidential debate that night before Mr. Trump was talking about the town and spreading debunked claims about Haitians. “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs. The people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating — they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”

Ariel Dominique, executive director of the Haitian American Foundation for Democracy, said she laughed at first at the absurdity of the false claims. But seeing the comments repeated on national television by the former president was painful.

“It is so unfair and unjust and completely contrary to what we have contributed to the world, what we have contributed to this nation for so long,” Dominique said.

The falsehoods about Springfield’s Haitian immigrants were spread online by Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, on the eve of Tuesday’s debate between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. It’s part of a timeworn American political tradition of casting immigrants as outsiders. [At least for Republicans it is.]

“This is what’s happening in our country. And it’s a shame,” Trump said at the debate after repeating the falsehoods. When challenged by ABC News moderator David Muir over the false claims, Trump held firm, saying “people on television” said their dogs were eaten, but he offered no evidence.

Officials in Springfield have tried to tamp down the misinformation by saying there have been no credible or detailed reports of any pets being abducted or eaten. State leaders are trying to help address some of the real challenges facing the city.

    [...]

Many Haitians have come to the U.S. to flee poverty and violence. They have embraced President Joe Biden’s new and expanded legal pathways to enter, and have shunned illegal crossings, accounting for only 92 border arrests out of more than 56,000 in July, the latest data available.

The Biden administration recently announced an estimated 300,000 Haitians in the U.S. could remain in the country at least through February 2026, with eligibility for work authorization, under a law called Temporary Protected Status. The goal is to spare people from being deported to countries in turmoil.

Springfield, about 45 miles from the state capital of Columbus, suffered a steep decline in its manufacturing sector toward the end of the last century, and its population shrank as a result. But its downtown has been revitalized in recent years as more Haitians arrived and helped meet the rising demand for labor as the economy emerged from the pandemic. Officials say Haitians now account for about 15% of the population.

    [...]

With its rising population of immigrants, Springfield is hardly an outlier. So far this decade, immigration has accounted for almost three-quarters of U.S. population growth, with 2.5 million immigrants arriving in the United States between 2020 and 2023, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Population growth is an important driver of economic growth.

“The Haitian immigrants who started moving to Springfield the last few years are the reason why the economy and the labor force has been revitalized there,” said Guerline Jozef, executive director of the Haitian Bridge Alliance, which provides legal and social services to immigrants across the U.S.

Now, she said, Haitians in Springfield have told her that, out of fear, they are considering leaving the city.

So hey, thanks a lot, Haitians, for being here legally and being the ones responsible for almost singlehandedly resurrecting and revitalizing that dying city and turning it back into a place where people might want to live in again... But now that people want to live here again, I am afraid that xenophobic racist asshole Republicanfucks would like you all to just get thefuck out of our country, if you'd be so very kind. You have served your purpose, now gofuck yourselves. With our thanks and gratitude.

The unspoken aspect of this story is how we could have been helping Haiti instead of helping to screw up their country worse as we have in the past. The only time we've cared about Haiti is when the dead bodies of Haitians start washing up on shore in front of Miami hotels and Mar-a-Lago. Then we have to prop them up long enough that they stop fleeing their dictators anyway they can. Their using homemade boats and truck inner tubes to cross the ocean to get here too - just like the Cubans. The only difference between the Cubans and Haitians in that respect - the only reason anyone in the USA cares - is that the Cubans vote R and Haitains are black and poor.

We did. There were troops in country. We gave them money. Everything we did was for naught because of the corruption in the country.

  51. by Indy! on September 13, 2024 4:03 pm

That was after the bodies washed up on shore here. We stayed just long enough for them to get a crappy gov't up and running. OTOH, we stayed in Afghanistan for 20 years and accomplished exactly ZIPPO outside of arming the Taliban for any future conflicts between us. Vietnam was what...15 years for us and we got nothing from that one too. Haiti? We gave them their 15 minutes of fame and moved on.

While we're here Odie, I just want you to know that - in the spirit of board harmony - I've started to read some of your posts I skipped over in the past. I would like to belatedly respond to this one I just saw above in this thread...

Does is matter if it's true? You only believe in your "political view" not in reality.

Yes, it matters whether or not it's true.

But you also believe that trump said he will be a dictator (FALSE)
There are a whole lot of things that are blatantly false that you don't care about. As long as it hurts trumpster.

  53. by Indy! on September 13, 2024 7:24 pm

Source where I said Trump will be a dictator. That's impossible because he's too stupid to run a casino - he definitely can't run a country. He couldn't even be a dictator of a shit hole like Haiti.

  54. by oldedude on September 13, 2024 7:41 pm
because you believe everything the little germans tell you to say.
You're nothing more than a mocking jay of the liberal swamp.

  55. by oldedude on September 13, 2024 7:42 pm
And oh my! you sure turned against the Haitians in a heartbeat once you got schooled on them.... jussayin...

Trump said he's be a dictator on day one. I don't like even one-day-dictators.

This week, the orange-hue would-be authoritarian tweeted (Xed?) about the 2020 election that "those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again. We cannot let our Country further devolve into a Third World Nation, AND WE WON’T! Please beware that this legal exposure extends to Lawyers, Political Operatives, Donors, Illegal Voters, & Corrupt Election Officials. Those involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, caught, and prosecuted at levels, unfortunately, never seen before in our Country."

So that's different than the dicktaters now? You wipe your arse with the constitution. and the laws of our country. We had almost a month long (so long even princess got it) about DUE PROCESS. You still don't get. And I know you're not that stoopid. Which is vexing to me. I think you used to be a very good person to run this. Yes, you reigned me in a couple of times, and you needed to. Got it. The last year or so you've lost all of that. You know, the ability to view things? Is that what being a liberal does? Maybe that's why I quit the dims and chose to be more humane. The funniest thing is that you and princess couldn't go to many of the military schools without getting a discharge for "failure to adapt" which in your case means you have to care about other human beings. Neither of you do. That's disconcerting. You (and princess) show signs you would actually get so enthralled into your politics you would take the heads off of infants and feel no remorse. If I were in charge of either of you, #1 I'd wonder how the fuck you made it this long, and #2 you'd go before the Command Chief to get rid of you. I don't care where you went, just out of the military. You're going to turn into a "psycho killer Qu'est-ce que c'est?
Ce que j'ai fait, ce soir-là
    Ce qu'elle a dit, ce soir-là
    Réalisant mon espoir
Je me lance vers la gloire"

You know, one of those shitheads that shoots up elementary schools? That you always blame on the "gun"?

Was this meant for me? You can source that one too while you're "looking" (🙄) for the other stuff you claim I said... which we both know I didn't.

I don't mind that you vociferously disagree with some of the opinions that I post here. But it's tiresome that attribute to me statements and opinions which I have not made.

I do not blame school and other mass shootings on the guns.

I recently posted (see link) what law enforcement did which I think could help reduce mass and other shootings. Namely place some responsibility on the parents to keep guns away from kids. You even agreed with me.

I acknowledge that we have a Second Amendment, so unless it's repealed, making guns illegal is a pipe dream.

So can we limit our arguments to the issues on which we actually disagree?

Old Repub trick - they can't argue the facts convincingly so they try to talk over you or pretend you're not a "patriot" or some other nonsensical meaningless sidebar that gets them out of defending the real argument. I don't even know what a "rape tree" is (I think he just made it up) - but he acts like I have a roadside attraction where trees are raping each other or something because he couldn't debate me over the facts if he had Stephen Hawking helping him out.

  61. by oldedude on September 13, 2024 8:35 pm
So you've continually supported the Australian laws. That's pretty much blaming the gun. And what you do is your "tacit comply" with issues. There is a line here. IF you post on a thread, but not refuse a side, that's tacit comply. If you don't post on a thread you've chosen not to and you're off the hook.

You DID tacitly comply with the rape trees and the drugs. As usual, you picked a minor feature that you can chickenshit me to an agreement. Usually leaving the major part of the conversation left undone. You're still agreeing with the cartels, child abusers, and the rapists. For some reason, I don't accept they are part of a "normal society." You want to keep them in society because you (and princess) are too cowardly to do anything about them. You're sheep. That's all. You bleat when you're told to. You give up one of your own when you're too cowardly to save them. In this case, you're too cowardly to stand up to the cartels. Do you have grandchildren? They live in LV? Maybe NLV? The gang capital of Las Vegas? Are they to be victims? Actually I don't think you care enough about them to make the difference. So I'm wasting my time.

"But you also believe that trump said he will be a dictator (FALSE)" -olde dude

See this is why it's kinda impossible to ever take you MAGA Hats seriously. Because yes, he absolutely did say that he would be a dictator on Day One. Several times. He was recorded on these new-fangled pitcher machine thingies saying with his own mouth words that he would be a dictator. It doesn't even matter that he tried to limit it to just one day either.

It's kinda like saying that he was only going to be a pedophile rapist for one day.

The survey from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and YouGov found that 74 percent of Republican voters said it would be a good idea if Trump follows through on his remarks in which he said he would be a dictator only on the first day of his second term. Twenty-six percent of Republicans say it would be a bad thing.

An APNORC national poll found 57% of Republican voters endorsing the idea of Donald Trump "taking action...without waiting for Congress or the courts.”

In case your comment was intended for me, od... (It's never easy to know who the hell you are talking to).

Without even looking at your link, the only issue that I was responding to was your FALSE claim that Trump hadn't ever said that he'd be a dictator. I was just pointing out that your claim of (FALSE) was a false claim that was false and not in any way accurate or truthful.
