Trump then recalled the moment Miriam Adelson received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

"But I really, I watched Sheldon sitting so proud in the White House when we gave Miriam the Presidential Medal of Freedom," he said. "That's the highest award you can get as a civilian. It's the equivalent of the Congressional Medal of Honor, but civilian version, it's actually much better, because everyone gets the Congressional Medal of Honor, they're soldiers. They're either in very bad shape because they've been hit so many times by bullets, or they're dead. She gets it and she's healthy, beautiful woman."

    The Presidential Medal of Freedom was the highest honor at one time. But the last 30 years or so it's been turned into a photo op for friends of the president. Virtually worthless now depending on when the recipient received it.

    Isn't dissing and diminishing Medal of Honor recipients while praising and awarding his mega-donor with a presidential medal a form of "stolen valor"? Why aren't OD and the swift boater types upset with Trump's comments? They seem to be selectively outraged.

    Trump holds veterans in distain because as Tim Waltz puts it, "Trump doesn't understand what 'service' is." But some veterans, or as Trump calls them "suckers and losers" like olde dude will still vote for him. They truly are suckers and losers, though, if they vote again for a former Commander In Chief who doesn't even respect them.

    VFW Admonishes Former President for Medal of Honor Remarks

    The following is a message from VFW National Commander Al Lipphardt

    August 16, 2024

    WASHINGTON — “On Thursday, former President Donald Trump spoke at an event where he made some flippant remarks about the Medal of Honor and the heroes who have received it. In the video that has circulated online and in the media, the former president was recognizing Miriam Adelson in the audience who he awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom during his time in office. As he described the medal as the civilian version of the Medal of Honor, he went on to opine that the Medal of Freedom was “much better” than the military’s top award, because those awarded the latter are, in his words, “ … either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets or they’re dead.” He continued by comparing Miriam to MoH recipients saying, “She gets it and she’s a healthy beautiful woman. They are rated equal.”

    These asinine comments not only diminish the significance of our nation’s highest award for valor, but also crassly characterizes the sacrifices of those who have risked their lives above and beyond the call of duty.

    When a candidate to serve as our military’s commander-in-chief so brazenly dismisses the valor and reverence symbolized by the Medal of Honor and those who have earned it, I must question whether they would discharge their responsibilities to our men and women in uniform with the seriousness and discernment necessary for such a powerful position. It is even more disappointing when these comments come from a man who already served in this noble office and should frankly already know better.

    While the Presidential Medal of Freedom maybe our nation’s highest civilian award, the Medal of Honor is more sacred as it represents the gallantry and intrepidity of courageous and selfless service members, often at the cost of grievous wounds and even their lives. It’s because of our Medal of Honor recipients that great Americans like Miriam Adelson have the freedom to live to their fullest potential and make such lasting contributions to our great nation.

    We would like to remind Mr. Trump that the 12 times he had the honor of awarding the Medal of Honor as president of the United States, those were heroes not of his own choosing. He bestowed those medals on behalf of Congress, representing all Americans of a grateful nation. We hold the donation of their lives in service to our country in the highest esteem, and so should he.”

    Indy, LOL! Trump counts on getting the stupid vote. This is a comment from a military oriented website, under an article about Trump dissing Medal of Honor recipients:
    "Let me do a hit piece on Trump for you. He is too old. He did not serve in the military. He talks endlessly about himself. Those are his negatives. On the plus side I will vote for him in November. No choice."

    The good news is that not all veterans are brain-dead. Many of the commenters are less forgiving. See second link, bottom of page. And there is this....

    ...he tried to overthrow an election and had his (now confirmed) STUPID followers trash the Capitol... 😌


    A word about Miriam Adelson - she was the wife of Sheldon Adelson who was a big player in the GOP and tried to buy the presidency many times (Trump being his only success?) Anyway - he also tried to take control of my Raiders a few years back. He was the guy who started the entire move to Vegas by convincing Vegas officials to move money for a convention center into a new push to bring the Raiders to Vegas and putting up $600M of his own cash for the stadium. Of course his REAL plan was to take control of the team - which he didn't tell to anyone until the deal was in place.

    He then told Raiders owner Mark Davis that part of the deal had to include Adelson getting a percentage of the team. Davis - who btw, is considered a "dumb owner" (based mostly on his haircut) - gave Adelson the silent treatment instead. That left Adelson with the choice of either continuing on as is - or pulling out completely and taking his money and Vegas pals' convention cash with it. He really had no choice because if he pulled out - he would forever be remembered as the guy who killed the Vegas NFL team. So in the end - Davis (dumbest and least influential owner in the NFL at the time?) - outsmarted Adelson (allegedly one of the smartest and most influential GOPers out there).
