Fellow Democrats,

Now that you have returned from the July 4th recess, I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump.

I have had extensive conversations with the leadership of the party, elected officials, rank and file members, and most importantly, Democratic voters over these past 10 days or so. I have heard the concerns that people have ó their good faith fears and worries about what is at stake in this election. I am not blind to them. Believe me, I know better than anyone the responsibility and the burden the nominee of our party carries. I carried it in 2020 when the fate of our nation was at stake. I also know these concerns come from a place of real respect for my lifetime of public service and my record as President, and I have been moved by the expressions of affection for me from so many who have known me well and supported me over the course of my public life. Iíve been grateful for the rock-solid, steadfast support from so many elected Democrats in Congress and all across the country and taken great strength from the resolve and determination Iíve seen from so many voters and grassroots supporters even in the hardest of weeks.

I can respond to all this by saying clearly and unequivocally: I wouldnít be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024.

We had a Democratic nomination process and the voters have spoken clearly and decisively. I received over 14 million votes, 87% of the votes cast across the entire nominating process. I have nearly 3,000 delegates, making me the presumptive nominee of our party by a wide margin.

This was a process open to anyone who wanted to run. Only three people chose to challenge me. One fared so badly that he left the primaries to run as an independent. Another attacked me for being too old and was soundly defeated. The voters of the Democratic Party have voted. They have chosen me to be the nominee of the party.

Do we now just say this process didnít matter? That the voters donít have a say?

I decline to do that. I feel a deep obligation to the faith and the trust the voters of the Democratic Party have placed in me to run this year. It was their decision to make. Not the press, not the pundits, not the big donors, not any selected group of individuals, no matter how well intentioned. The voters ó and the voters alone ó decide the nominee of the Democratic Party. How can we stand for democracy in our nation if we ignore it in our own party? I cannot do that. I will not do that.

And we are standing up for American democracy. After January 6th, Trump has proven that he is unfit to ever hold the office of President. We can never allow him anywhere near that office again. And we never will.

My fellow Democrats ó we have the record, the vision, and the fundamental commitment to Americaís freedoms and our Democracy to win.

The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And itís time for it to end. We have one job. And that is to beat Donald Trump. We have 42 days to the Democratic Convention and 119 days to the general election. Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us. It is time to come together, move forward as a unified party, and defeat Donald Trump.

Joe Biden

Joseph R. Biden Jr.

President of the United States of America

The letter itself is being praised on the right.

It's cogent and powerful but, certainly not actually written by the "dithering and diminished" Doddering Old Fool.

Putting your entire diatribe in bold text does not make it stand out more or easier to read, pb. It does the exact opposite - makes it HARDER to read and stand out not at all.

  2. by HatetheSwamp on July 8, 2024 1:53 pm

The bold part is Joe's letter. Verbatim. Copy paste.

  3. by Indy! on July 8, 2024 2:04 pm

The bold part is not "copy paste" because that is not how the internet works. You made it bold.

  4. by oldedude on July 9, 2024 5:53 am
Of course, to show the stupid people what has been pulled directly from a quote sourced from another reference. To make it easier for people to read. Much like the rest of us do with posts that are quoted. That seems an easy way to ensure that other can tell the difference between what is factual and what is opinion.

I know you never do that, because you never present fact.

  5. by Indy! on July 9, 2024 12:06 pm

It does NOT make it easier to read UNLESS only ONE THING is BOLD - not EVERYTHING. They didn't cover that in your military "education" because it didn't involve parking lots and cigarette butts.

  6. by oldedude on July 9, 2024 4:44 pm
You forgot to say, "IN MY OPINION..." because it is.

In "my opinion," I generally use bold like I said.

AND it's such a minimal thing in my life that it doesn't bother me. At all.

I have more problems reading curt's stuff that's been cited because he indents. I'm sure that's the correct way, but it doesn't show well in the posts (IMHO) Have I said anything? No. Why? because it's such a minimal thing in my life why tell someone they're "wrong" when it's "an opinion" and I get over it in a matter of seconds.

That's one of the differences between us. I would rather have the facts and learn from there, like I did when curt talked about the number of guns that are stolen from burgs of gun stores. Instead of saying curt was stupid about that, I looked into it and had to revamp my answer to him complete with a mea culpa. Some people are willing to do that.

The difference is I'm a graphic artist and have been trained in typography, Odie. Peebs wants his thing to stand out - that is not the way you do it if you actually want it to stand out. That's the way an old guy shuffling around in his basement yelling at clouds on the internet does it.

  8. by oldedude on July 9, 2024 6:57 pm
Again, I don't care. It was his "choice" not yours. Not your business to attack him.

  9. by oldedude on July 9, 2024 8:15 pm
Actually indy, I understand that this is actually your thing, and you know what you would do as a boss or on your own as a matter of course. I understand that.

I don't think Lead works for you (correct me if I'm wrong). AND you, if putting this together would do something different. Okay. This may violate a first class student's work in your genre. I would get it axed also, and the point is you don't have to be a dikead as a matter of course. If you had some real control over him (him working for you, or indentured to you) you might have a "right" to be like that. But you don't have control of him.

I feel what he did was far better (he had facts to back up his statements) than what you usually put down. Which is no facts, and lots of "IMO..." stating them as facts. Which as an analyst pisses me off. Why? you have no facts behind your thoughts. You can't back up what you say. In my genre, you'll get fired and maybe put in jail for such things. Or you'll get an innocent person killed. Or you won't get a guilty person dead. And they murder 50 more of your people or those that support you.

Please keep quiet when you have no idea what you're talking about, OD. It just continues to lower my opinion of your mental acuity (look up the big words).

  11. by oldedude on July 10, 2024 10:50 am
Again. burying the hatchet, and try to reach some sort of understanding. and you prove yourself a dikead still. Well done. welldone.

I gave you multiple opportunities to play nice. You donít want to - so now you can go fuck yourself.
