"Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays" to Everyone !!!

I agree with the sentiments expressed above.

When I was a kid, in addition to the usual toys, and other fun stuff, we got gifts that were utilitarian in nature, like clothing. My family was solidly middle-class. It seems to me that buying anything in those days was a much bigger deal. Shopping at a department store like Gimbel’s was a formal affair. My father and the other men wore suits and ties; the wives and kids wore their Sunday finery to gawk at the latest in fashion, appliances, and plumbing.

We would also parade past the extravagant window displays of the downtown department stores. My parents would furtively hide packages which my sister and I knew contained our Christmas gifts.

Nowadays, shopping is a much more casual affair. If we need something or want something, we don’t hesitate or to wait for a holiday to get it. For a lot of it, we don’t even go shopping per se. We just order it. Last week we ordered a new mattress which arrived in a box. The brand name is Nectar. it arrives vacuum packed and you open it up, it unravels, expands and is ready for sleeping in a few hours.

For me now at least, Christmas is not the big deal it was from me growing up. But every day I feel like it’s a wonderful life.

We'll be participating in our second annual Tucson Christmas tradition in a little while: Christmas dinner at Lin's Chinese Buffet. Nothing captures the holiday spirit quite like having sushi on Christmas day!

Geez. It feels like we are the only two people in this entire apartment complex right now. Everyone went somewhere else.

Did you check out Trump's Christmas "greeting". He wishes the worst for Jack Smith, Joe Biden, electric car drivers among others on is naughty list.

Had a very nice family Christmas get together. My grandson and his fiance flew all the way back from Okinawa where he is working on finishing up on his dissertation for his doctorate was that was an unexpected surprise !

Unfortunately, we didn't have a white Christmas this year, but we had plenty of good food and good cheer! The weather was so warm (For Maine) that my son and his wife cooked a beautiful prime rib outside on their "Little Green Egg" charcoal grill !! 😀

Isle, it sounds like you had a lovely time.

There was some frost on the roofs of the apartment across the way first thing yesterday morning. So I declared it a White Christmas here in Tucson.

Pondy,Yup !! I'd say that qualifies for a White Christmas in Tucson.

This is what qualifies as a White Christmas up here LoL !!

Fortunately for me, our driveway is short !! 🍻

We had a sweet moment. Evie got to see her only still-living sister, if only briefly. They're to the sad moment when, every time they see each other, they have to wonder if this will be the last time.

This Xmas stuff is always nostalgic for geezers, but that one really was.

Merry Christmas, Bill. It sounds like you had a nice one.

Crazy ass holiday due to the flu going around. I had it the week before Christmas - ruined my birthday, but I was healthy by the Xmas weekend. Have to say, this was the best Christmas I've personally had in quite awhile. Feel lucky to have the parents still around - still being generous with us "kids". Mom still cooks in her 80s and she still has the magic touch. Really enjoyed the past week.

Funny that he types it in ALL CAPS - the clichéd example of the old codger behind a keyboard.

I'm glad for you, Indy. In my experience, missing parents is a hard thing during the holidays. Enjoy while you can.

Yay, Indy! The best is good! Ours was an average of the best.

And a Merry Christmas it was
