They are certainly experts at making money. 🤨

New York City — Former President Donald Trump sat attentively in the courtroom of his New York civil fraud trial on Thursday, watching as the defense's final expert witness, Eli Bartov, proclaimed that there was "no evidence whatsoever of any accounting fraud."

On Friday, Bartov revealed that he has made approximately $877,500 for his expert testimony in this case — charging $1,350 per hour for about 650 hours of work. When questioned by lawyers for the state of New York about who was paying him, Bartov replied that his bank statements showed some of the money was paid by the Trump Organization and some came from Trump's Save America PAC.

Yet again. And? Nothing illegal in that. Excessive? Maybe. Illegal? No.

  2. by Curt_Anderson on December 9, 2023 10:06 am
Nobody is suggesting expert witnesses are illegal, but at nearly $900,000 apiece a reasonable person might retain some skepticism about their testimony. Especially that blowhard professor who seemed to be channeling Trump's aggrandizement.

Perhaps. And they've been certified as expert witnesses in the court they're in. That's a piece few folks know about. I knew about them, but didn't know how much they were paid. I agree that their cost is pretty high, but I wasn't floored by it. My guess whoever this is, does about 3-5 cases a year, and lives in a multi million dollar house.

You actually have to build up their credentials and present them to the court. If they are ever caught lying, false testimony, etc. Every case they've been a part of is now in question, and their evidence scrubbed from the record. I'm not sure if someone would be willing to do that for that amount of money. Surely, a forensics accountant with those creds makes about 2/3 of that on a routine case. Since it was trumpster, the rate may have gone up some, but not enough to lie and not be able to make any money for the rest of their lives.

Welcome to the wonderful world of high end trials! We had folks at FinCEN that went out on their own after they testified in enough cases, especially the big ones.

Hope the got the money up front.......

  5. by Indy! on December 9, 2023 11:40 am

So let me see if I have this straight...

This guy gets paid $877K to be a false "expert" witness in Trump's trial...

OD has no problem with it. 🤔

Bernie Sanders spends his entire life in gov't making a nice paycheck (currently $174K a year), writes a couple books (like almost every politician who runs for president) that make him milliion$... his wife is president of a college and also makes a nice salary... so they bought themselves a home and a vacation cottage like millions of other Americans making far less coin. They then inherited a home from their parents when they passed away - also similar to millions of other Americans... so they ended up with 3 homes (approximately 4 less than John McCain owned - give or take due to McCain's failing memory when it comes to counting his homes)....

And OD thinks there's something financially fishy going on. 😂

As I said in comment #2, the amount Trump paid for his expert witnesses undermined their credibility.

“Bartov is a tenured professor, but all that his testimony proves is that for a million or so dollars, some experts will say whatever you want them to say,” Engoron wrote. “By doggedly attempting to justify every misstatement, Professor Bartov lost all credibility.”

Whatever.🙄 They have the same issues with perjury as anyone else. I don't think it matters and is just another "thing" about trumpster to make you feel good about yourself.

Some people tell the truth on the stand, Odorous. Probably not too many people you know - but people in general.

  9. by Ponderer on December 18, 2023 9:04 pm

Trump wouldn't have paid that kinda money to anyone to actually tell the truth.

It takes Orange Julius Caesar a lot of money/energy to bend reality to his will and to get others to corroborate it for him.

Meanwhile, witnesses who aren't getting paid by anyone to testify are simply speaking the truth. Which happens to be corroborated by mountains of documented, indisputable evidence, and scores of other witness' testimony, etc.

Funny you keep calling people Germans when your hero Trump Drumpf actually IS German, has verifiably read Mein Kampf and obviously has a teensy tiny, itsy bitsy, absolutely microscopic boner (according to Stormy Daniels) for dictators like Adolf.

jjpo- Trump wouldn't have paid that kinda money to anyone to actually tell the truth.
So instead of innuendo, do you have any actual proof?

Meanwhile, witnesses who aren't getting paid by anyone to testify are simply speaking the truth. Which happens to be corroborated by mountains of documented, indisputable evidence, and scores of other witness' testimony, etc.

If the "mountains of documented, indisputable evidence, and scores of other witness' testimony" are not called into court, they have really crappy lawyers. OR the evidence was illegally obtained and isn't really evidence. One or the other. If it's legal evidence, I absolutely welcome it! Dumping him will make my life a whole lot better! I want him off the ticket almost as much as you do (for the 2,000th time)
