David Ignatius, a foreign affairs columnist for The Washington Post, wrote in a column published Tuesday that Biden has built a strong legacy of accomplishments during his first few years in office, citing America’s return to the world stage and legislative victories for Democrats. He also wrote that Biden has delivered on his pledge to govern from the center.
...I don’t think Biden and Vice President Harris should run for reelection. It’s painful to say that, given my admiration for much of what they have accomplished,” Ignatius continued. “But if he and Harris campaign together in 2024, I think Biden risks undoing his greatest achievement — which was stopping Trump.”
I gotta say. I'm flabbergasted that real progressives like our SS progressives are so brainlessly walking in lockstep with the Dem Swamp's decision to foist this guy on America...AGAIN.
But, you are what you are...

by Curt_Anderson on September 13, 2023 1:43 pm Ignatius didn't suggest an alternative. Biden may not be the perfect candidate but his chances of being elected in 2024 are better than any other candidate.
by HatetheSwamp on September 13, 2023 2:08 pm
I think that's horsepucky, Curt. At this point in 91 who could have guessed that Bill Clinton would be elected in 92, or, in 07, Obama in 08!!!!!?
It appears that Dems are afraid to let this be a constitutional republic. Y'know, "of the people, by the people and for the people?"
by Donna on September 13, 2023 3:00 pm
I've been voicing support for challenging Biden and having a real primary election season all along.
All the Dems who I think would be more electable than Biden have never shown an interest in running for president. Sheldon Whitehouse is one who immediately comes to mind. He even has the perfect surname.
by Curt_Anderson on September 13, 2023 3:10 pm HtS,
What happened 32 years ago is not relevant. The practical calendar to run for president starts a lot earlier now.
More than four years ago, in June of 2019, there were 20 Democrats who qualified to participate in the first Democratic primaries debate which were held on two successive nights. Nobody could launch a successful candidacy at this late date. That's why nobody has.

I wholeheartedly agree, Curt. Biden was never my top choice until the general election. Donna and I have talked about who could be a good replacement. But we couldn't come up with anyone. No one starting from scratch is going to do better than Biden, regardless of who ends up running against him.
by oldedude on September 13, 2023 7:05 pm Seriously, the fact that you don't see anything wrong with him should be your answer.
by oldedude on September 13, 2023 7:06 pm sorry, wrong thread.
by Curt_Anderson on September 13, 2023 8:05 pm I remember thinking that Biden was my number 5 choice out of the 20 that were contenders. Looking at the 20 faces and names on that YouTube video I have doubts that any of the others could have won in 2020. And if they did manage a win, I don't think they'd have a majority Democratic Senate, as Biden did.
by oldedude on September 13, 2023 9:15 pm I guess that shows how shallow the dims bench is.
President Biden’s approval rating has dropped to 39%, according to the latest poll.
The poll, conducted by CNN, shows the president’s approval dropped 2 percentage points from July and 6 percentage points from January. Biden’s numbers on handling the economy were particularly troubling for Democrats, with 58% of respondents saying his presidency worsened economic conditions in the country, up 8 percentage points from the same time last year.
Only 26% said they felt Biden had the stamina and sharpness to serve effectively as president, compared to 74% who said he did not. Biden faired only slightly better – 28% -for those who said Biden inspires confidence in voters compared to 72% who said he does not.
Overall, 70% said things were going either pretty badly or very badly in the country. msn.com

I whole heartedly agree, Curt. The country needed someone to save them from another four year (or maybe more) reign of terror from Cheeto Benito. And sorrily for many of us, Biden was the best candidate to do that. But he's sure gotten the job done that he was elected to.
"I guess that shows how shallow the dims bench is." -olde dude
HA!!! Like the GOP even has a bench. They're all still in the locker room fighting over what color socks they should all wear for the game.
by Curt_Anderson on September 14, 2023 7:55 am David Ignatius was interviewed this morning on NPR about his opinion piece. He repeated what he said in his editorial that Joe Biden is a great president and both foreign and domestic fronts. He listed Biden’s accomplishments. Current polling frightens him. He is terrified of a four year Trump “revenge presidency”. He could not suggest a single alternative replacement candidate.
by Curt_Anderson on September 14, 2023 3:03 pm Along similar lines, David Von Drehle wrote "Democrats are crazy to insist only Biden can beat Trump"
Spoiler alert: He didn't come up with a single name of any potential candidates who could beat Trump. Part of running for president requires a fulltime commitment of time and the ability to raise money, lots of money. It also demands the candidate have a desire and motivating reason to run. Besides unserious and unqualified candidates like RFK Jr. and Maryanne Williamson nobody seems to want it (and their motivations are suspect). washingtonpost.com
