"BREAKING: Pope Francis torches Republicans in the United States for their horrific "backward" behavior and beliefs as Donald Trump's MAGA movement continues to poison the minds of millions of Americans.
But it gets even better.

The pope — head of the Roman Catholic Church and its 1.2 billion adherents — told a Portuguese Jesuit that there is a "a very strong, organized, reactionary attitude" amongst American Catholics. It should be noted that several of these reactionaries serve on our deeply corrupt Supreme Court.

Pope Francis said these people have a "backward" ideology.

"Doing this, you lose the true tradition and you turn to ideologies to have support. In other words, ideologies replace faith," he explained.
He went on to say that "vision of the doctrine of the church as a monolith is wrong" and that if you "go backward" you can "make something closed off, disconnected from the roots of the church."

You are our lapsed Catholic in residence. I think of MAGA as mostly secular rednecks, unwershed Pentecostals and Baptists... Are you telling us that MAGA is a Roman Catholic thing? What percentage of the whole would you guess are "White Catholic Nationalists?" by Indy! on August 29, 2023 2:31 pm Personally, I have never met a single white Catholic nationalist and doubt there are many outside of the Fox crowd's imagination. Most Catholics (in my experience) are open minded about just about everything except abortion and maybe gays (with some). But my "Catholic background" basically never got started around age 12 and whatever there was ended when I was 15 or 16 when my parents stopped making us go to church. So I'm not exactly an expert.
