President Joe Biden is out of town again as debt ceiling talks enter their final days.

Biden returned from a trip to Japan last Sunday and spent just four full days in Washington before departing for Camp David on Friday afternoon. He'll also spend part of this weekend in Delaware as the debt ceiling "X-date" approaches.

The president will be wherever he needs to be to secure a reasonable, bipartisan deal to prevent the economic catastrophe that Republicans are threatening, this manufactured crisis," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said when asked about Biden's travel plans. "He'll do that wherever he needs to be."

The White House has been criticized for Biden's high number of vacation days before and often responds by saying that Biden is the president and can fill the duties of the office from anywhere. But the debt ceiling could be reached as soon as Thursday, and the Biden administration has been calling the problem a crisis for weeks.

"On the debt ceiling, you used words like 'catastrophic' and 'devastating' today," a reporter said in Wednesday's press briefing. "But the president, again, is going to Camp David this weekend and then going to Delaware. If this situation is so dire, then why is the president—"

Jean-Pierre cut off the inquiry, saying, "I already answered that question."

by oldedude on May 27, 2023 6:03 am I guess when you're a useless mouthpiece of your handlers, you can be anywhere they want. They're going to make the same stupid decisions. For a "normal" President (where they are making decisions) they generally work on a reduced schedule with their advisors around them to openly make decisions without having to deal with DC. In this case, pedojoe gets out and does a photo op or two. dr joules is heading up all the meetings with the handlers. Anyone that actually believes pedojoe is making decisions lives in a world of "sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows" should break into song right now (see below). She doesn't seem to leave his side, protecting him from any unwanted "advise" from a stray handler. This is a common act by major players in an ailing figurehead that can be easily swayed. My guess is that selected dims in the house (and maybe the senate) are there to work on strategy. I think they were also taken back by the sudden shift of the house. McCarthy is not little nancy. I don't think they expected that out of the election. And then thought he would be as pliable as several GOP heads in the house. The GOP does have a couple upper hands. First is pedojoes horrible approval numbers. That means for normal Americans, pedojoe is seen as weak and ineffectual. +5 points for McCarthy. pedojoe is "supposed" to be a great "unifier" but his handlers are only talking about those damned "MAGA" republicans. +2 for McCarthy. The "freedom Caucus" -1 for McCarthy. pedojoe is the "president" (regardless of the reasonings, the president is always held at fault for these negotiations) McCarthy +2.
