"...Television audiences have become accustomed — arguably to the point of tedium — to presidents putting the spotlight on ordinary Americans invited to the House chamber to be hailed for some extraordinary act. At last, in 2023, came a new twist on the old ritual. This time, it was ordinary Republicans putting the spotlight on themselves — through extraordinary rudeness. With boos, taunts, groans, and sarcastic chortles, the opposition party effectively turned themselves into prime-time props for President Joseph Biden... [sounds just like the Republicans here on our board lol] The performance definitely broke through the tedium... In terms of pure theater, the jeers helped Biden come alive...
... At the beginning of the address, Biden ambled through the House gallery, an 80-year-old president who didn’t look a day over 80, nor a day under. A politician who overcame a boyhood stutter, yet who has never been particularly strong with formal speeches, had his usual mix of garbled phrases and you-know-what-he-means sentence fragments. Would this be a painful evening? Soon enough, it became an entertaining one. At least, Biden was having fun, looking at booing Republicans with a smile... For the historical-minded, it was also evidence of how standards of decorum are highly fluid. Recall the big fuss in 2009 when Republican Joe Wilson of South Carolina interrupted President Obama’s speech to Congress by shouting, “You lie.” Even many Republicans were embarrassed, and Wilson apologized. This time, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene shouted out at least nine times, by the count of a POLITICO reporter in the gallery, that Biden was a liar. No one was surprised — certainly not Biden, who recognized an opportunity when it is delivered gift-wrapped before a nationwide audience..." Politico 🍻

by Curt_Anderson on February 9, 2023 9:25 am I am interested in seeing if there are any changes in Biden’s poll numbers in about a week from now. For that matter, I’ll be looking to see if the poll numbers reflect any changes on the congressional Republicans.
I missed it, but the New York Times reported that Donald Trump wore his signature red tie and blue suit and stood between two American flags and delivered what he said, was that“the real state of the union address”.
by HatetheSwamp on February 9, 2023 9:58 am
As is normal, his numbers will tweak up a point or two briefly. pb predicts that he won't approach breaking even. pb doubts that he'll break -5 on RCP.

By the way, in Hate's book, the "Counter Culture" is everyone who thinks counter to him .
by HatetheSwamp on February 10, 2023 5:31 am
po,
I hope you watched at least a few minutes of the video. It shows conservatives being themselves...laughing...smiling, demonstrating the core difference between you and me. I have never laughed more than since the Dems foisted President Clouseau on the whole world. You have been pitchin one continuous hissy since November 016.
When pb does his bahahahahahahahahahaha thing, he's being perfectly genuine. The video shows conservatives laughing through Joe's, to use a po word, blatant, to use po's favorite word, effin, to use a po word, prevarications.
The difference between your culture and our counter culture is that we can smile. Often. Bahahahahahahahahahaha. I'm so glad to be on my side of the great divide. It's a matter of heart. Baha!

😀 Smiley says we libs are having a lot more fun, and laughing a lot more than you cranky old Republicans.
A good part of it is missed by you guys since it goes right over your heads !! 🤣

We Libs smile all the time ! In fact, I have to admit it, you GOP's generally have us "LoL!" when you try to impress us with, for example, your GOP mating calls !!! 🤣

"I hope you watched at least a few minutes of the video. It shows conservatives being themselves...laughing...smiling," -Hate
I watched the first few minutes and then jumped ahead to watch the last few, which you seemed to think were so important and relevant. I particularly liked their dumbfounded consternation to Biden having used the phrase "soul of the nation". It was obvious that their mental density kept them from understanding what a metaphor is or from comprehending the heart of the meaning such a phrase may have been intended to metaphorically illustrate.
Oh wait! I'm sorry. That was a phrase in a sentence I just wrote and phrases don't actually have hearts like people or animals do. How silly of me.
🙄
Bill, I have never contended that Republicans and conservatives are not human beings, incapable of laughing at anything. It has always been my contention that they are inhuman.
inhuman [ in-hyoo-muhn or, often, -yoo- ]
adjective
1. lacking qualities of sympathy, pity, warmth, compassion, or the like; cruel; brutal: an inhuman master.
It is simply a clearly observable truth. You don't have to take my word for it. Modern Republicans have clearly and demonstrably become the most inhuman and inhumane political party this country has ever been cursed with. Taking away our rights. Passing laws that make people suffer more. Only seeking to better themselves and their immediate allies: the rich. And inhuman people can always find something to laugh about if it involves those who they don't like. Even if they have to totally make it up and pretend that it's funny.
"When pb does his bahahahahahahahahahaha thing, he's being perfectly genuine." -Hate
I know. And that's the truly sad thing here. You always go into that spasm of hilarity over things that are not only imaginary, but they aren't even funny. Watching that come over you always makes me feel like I just came upon a crazy homeless guy on a street corner, laughing his ass off about something going on nowhere but in his own demented head, completely and utterly oblivious to the real world around him. It's always a piteous sight to behold.
"The difference between your culture and our counter culture is that we can smile. Often. Bahahahahahahahahahaha." -Hate
As I said, you people rarely ever run out of unfortunate things that happen to other people to laugh at or be pleased about. And when you do, you simply make up some bullshit to laugh at about someone you don't like if you have to. We see that happen fairly often in fact. Gutfield stakes his entire career on doing that apparently.
"I'm so glad to be on my side of the great divide. It's a matter of heart. Baha!" Hate
Something about your heart makes you a conservative Republican? Is it valve related? Some sort of congenital abnormality or disease affecting your blood flow? I just don't understand how you can believe that an organ of your body that does nothing but keep your blood circulating determines whether you are an inhuman sociopath or not. Are you suggesting that you and other Republicans suffer from a total lack of basic human empathy or caring... because of your blood pressure...?
🙄

Sanctimony. You just can't not...

I would add empathy to that. But that's just a liberal trait.

by oldedude on February 11, 2023 4:37 am I already highlighted. It's a forest/trees statement. Again, your EQ isn't up to par.
