by Curt_Anderson on November 21, 2022 9:34 am For some reason, I cannot get the audio to play that CBS video. What did they say they found that was incriminating?
by Donna on November 21, 2022 11:41 am
I got it to play. The interviewer brought up to the two experts that another expert has claimed that there's evidence on the laptop that others have added to the files, and one of those two experts replied that they didn't find anything that substantiated that.
by HatetheSwamp on November 21, 2022 1:11 pm
Point is, except for the coked up stripper videos, everything important can be substantiated from others' emails and financial institutions' suspicious activity reports and White House records.
by Curt_Anderson on November 21, 2022 1:28 pm HtS, what was substantiated? The laptop contained emails. So, don't they all? That's evidence of what? I doubt it would have contained SARs.
As I posted in comment #19 about "suspicious activity reports" in the thread below:
How many of these SARs are really illegal activity versus false positives?
Our data indicate that about 4 percent of SARs result in any follow-up from law enforcement. A tiny subset of these results in an arrest and ultimately a conviction. Source: Bank Policy Institute

by oldedude on November 21, 2022 1:45 pm Please answer these two questions I have.
"How many of these SARs are really illegal activity versus false positives?"
Just so I'm clear, how would you get a "false positive"? I've never seen one when working with thousands of them for 10 years. I used to teach how to use them. So I'm interested in what you know that I don't about them and how inaccurate they are. These are generally queried are with an account number, a SOC, or an address. Sometimes (maybe) a name. Numbers are always better because they are finite. No misspellings. Everyone must, by law give their social security number to open an account. Wire transfers always go from one account to another. More often than not the SOC is the way to go initially. Unless pedojr is using an alias SOC (felony) most of them would be caught. So please enlighten me.

Like I asked and you didn't answer, why does that matter? It's the way we found a lot out about the Tsarnaev brothers' family through BSA. And if they're not in SARS, you can look up CTRs, FBARs, and other forms that are used.

I didn't personally get a false positive. That's a statement by the Bank Policy Institute about SARs generally. But you must know about false positives. It's common in medical exams, for example. I am guessing that if you dealt with SARs professionally by time they crossed your desk you'd only see the legitimate SARs that were more than merely suspicious. What Rep. Comer ballyhooed was the merely vaguely suspicious variety.

As I cautioned you before, don't get your hopes up that this apparently Hunter Biden related SAR will result in a conviction. The odds are against it.
by oldedude on November 21, 2022 4:22 pm Really, you should have asked the question before you put your entire leg in your mouth.
You get on your computer and query several blanks. I normally would run the name just to see how many I'm going to pull up if I'm not familiar with the entity. I check the number. If it's a lot, I look at the most common denominator. Let's say SOC and phone number. Okay, so I'd run SOC first, because that will generally have the closest hits.
Here's the part you're missing. You READ the SARs. What I look for is my butthead. His associates according to who he is sending money to and receiving money from. Typically, I spent about four hours getting information from the computer, and about 200-300 hours writing the report.
So as of this point, in the initial phase of the investigation, there is no chance whatsoever of a false positive. I have had up to 13 people using the same SOC (from cards bought in el Paso). There is a way to report that also. It's not a medical "test" that is either a positive or negative and you'll report negative material.
In most cases you only report on SARs by the narrative, but that's double checked. You run Currency Transaction Reports to get the transfers between institutions. In other cases, you need to contact FEDWire or one of the other wire transfer companies.
If FinCEN gives you a report, all the information has been looked at, charted, reviewed (many, many times) and rechecked for accuracy. Especially in this case, where politically it needs to be reviewed at least by a Director (SES).
by Curt_Anderson on November 21, 2022 4:28 pm Noted. We'll put you down for there is no chance whatsoever of a false positive in the Hunter Biden SARs. We'll see what happens next year when the GOP takes the House.
by oldedude on November 21, 2022 4:35 pm If it came out of FinCEN, absolutely. You're hoping like hell it doesn't rain, and a bird just pissed on you. You really need to know a lot more about the banking system.
by oldedude on November 21, 2022 4:39 pm You didn't read any of my post above.
They won't use a SAR in the hearing (or shouldn't). They should use certified bank statements or CTRs. Both of course are admissible in court. As is DNA. Again, try reading please.
