Maryland’s biggest contest is the race to succeed the term-limited governor, Larry Hogan, a moderate Republican who opposes former President Donald J. Trump.
Dan Cox, who has Trump's endorsement is defeating Kelly Schulz who Hogan endorsed. Cox is a whacko insurrectionist. The Democrats actually ran ads for Cox under the assumption that Maryland Republicans--who tend to be moderate--won't vote for a far-right extremist in the general election. Also Democrats outnumber Republicans in Maryland so it's only a slightly risky bet.
