A company leader at Piggly Wiggly told the newspaper that normally there are 30 baby formula products available to buy, but right now there are five. Other chains are also still struggling with only around 70% of stock, with an average of around 11 different products sold in stores, down from 24 in 2021. Additionally, Alaska, Utah, and Wyoming are facing worse shortages than other states, WSJ says.

My guess is that this is what suburban moms, and grandmas, are going to be carrying about in November.

The truth is that mothers produce milk to counter allergies, sensitivities, and all the other crap that affects an infant. A formula, by definition, must support what the mother has, but not what she doesn't have. The baby formula shortage was the result of some bad luck, natural disasters and mistakes made by the companies that make the formula. Reports of a formula shortage has been in the news for months. Mothers with infants who can, should be breastfeeding. Those who can't should be in touch with breastmilk banks. The La Leche League would be a good place to look for information.
