(CNN)The US Secret Service erased text messages from January 5 and 6, 2021, shortly after they were requested by oversight officials investigating the agency's response to the US Capitol riot, according to a letter given to the House select committee investigating the insurrection and obtained by CNN.

The letter, which was originally sent to the House and Senate Homeland Security Committees by the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General, says the messages were erased from the system as part of a device-replacement program after the watchdog asked the agency for records related to its electronic communications...

...While the letter does not say whether the DHS watchdog believes these text messages were erased intentionally or for a nefarious reason, the incident adds to growing questions about the Secret Service's response to the US Capitol attack.

Rather a convenient erasure of the records by the Secret Service.

So oversight told them to. I know you're very slow at this, so I'll type very slow. Not all tapes are required to be held by law. What they are for Secret Service, I don't know. My clearance is a TS, but it's also SCI, and that isn't my read list. And I doubt if it's yours considering you can't get a clearance. So. You can say what you want, but it doesn't make any difference to anyone in the world. You can stand there and make up all the sht you want to, and get on your pedo-loving soap box, but it won't make a difference. Who's in their oversight office? It is usually about half tech folks (meaning folks that know the day to day operations, generally GS15s and SES) and a crapful of lawyers. So argue the law with them, when you don't even know where to get their charter or their rules.

    So, here's my take, Curt:

The Secret Service is a part of the Swamp. Those text messages would have benefited Trump, so, POOF!

And, think how Clintonesque this is.

If only those texts hadn't been deleted. Now all that evidence exonerating Trump is now lost. 🙄

Too bad for Trump that his closest allies and sycophants refuse to testify or take the Fifth.

    Curt,

Remember J7 forward till, well, today, po, for example, being certain that Trump had been caught failing to launch a successful insurrection against the US government?

Remember all those pre-scripted, canned hearings with the most damning revelations possible, exposed through the promotion of gossip and rumor and hearsay elicited through leading questions?

Have you figured out, even with the Committee containing no member selected by House GOPs, y'nes are still nowhere close to even sniffing what po's gang assumed was a done deal a year and a half ago?

But, please, keep on keepin on.

It's, truly, been fun to watch.

If there's any conspiracy in the loss of those texts, those texts cleared Trump.

I previously assumed the deletions were a result of incompetence rather than malfeasance. Now I am not so sure. Either way, the Secret Service has some 'splainin' to do.

National Archives demands answers on deleted Jan. 6 Secret Service texts
The National Archives and Records Administration is investigating the “alleged unauthorized deletion” of a large cache of text messages sent by Secret Service officials in the days surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

Secret Service Says Some Missing Jan. 6 Texts Are Unlikely to Be Recovered
WASHINGTON — The Secret Service said it may not be able to recover a batch of erased text messages from phones used by its agents around the time of the attack on the Capitol last year, a development that comes amid intensified scrutiny over lapses in the agency’s accounting of its actions during the riots.

The Secret Service informed the House Jan. 6 committee that it was still attempting a forensic search for the phone records on Tuesday morning, when it delivered not the missing text messages the panel was seeking but “thousands of pages of documents” and other records related to decisions made on Jan. 6, according to the agency’s spokesman, Anthony Guglielmi. Later, in an interview, Mr. Guglielmi said the phone records were probably not recoverable.

first, they're “alleged unauthorized deletion” as said by politico. Ergo, they may or not be. And, as that goes, these are legally scrubbed IAW US government procedures. Welcome to the real world. Multi colored unicorns, and peace on earth only exist in a fantasy world.

It's naive to believe it was an accident.

Secret Service text messages from around the time of the attack on the U.S. Capitol were deleted despite requests from Congress and federal investigators that they be preserved, the agency confirmed Tuesday in response to a subpoena from the House Jan. 6 committee.

Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy, a Democratic member of the Jan 6. panel, said the Secret Service acknowledged the erasures in a letter Tuesday, detailing how agency phones were migrated to a new system in the weeks after the 2021 attack.

Murphy said the Secret Service left it up to individual agents to decide which electronic records to keep and which to delete during the process.

Seems to me that the reason the Committee didn't televise testimony by the Secret Service agents is that Ms Hutchinson has been busted.
