pb's almost positive that it was on the old Religion Forum but it might have been Politics.
pb and someone who's long gone were ranting back and forth about abortion and pb wrote:
"Whoa, Nelliebelle! If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade, abortion will not be illegal."
Back in the day, pb was commenting on a purely theoretical level. pb studied Supreme Court decisions impacting religion when he was pursuing his degree so he knows a little bit about how the Court works. Like RBG, pb thought that Roe was poorly decided. But, in those days, it didn't seem possible that Roe'd be overturned.
But, yo!, now it has been.
And, of course, pb was exactly and 100%, purely, bang on, correct.
Roe has been overturned. Abortion is still legal.
And, here's the deal. At the moment, the SwampMedia is suggesting that people generally oppose the Dobbs decision. And, I imagine that they do. But, the real world truth, that abortion is still legal, hasn't settled in.
The Dobbs decision is quintessentially American. This is a nation, "of the people, by the people and for the people." Now, the people...and their representatives...not a Big Brother foisting Court...make decisions on the issue.
pb expects that, come November, all those House Dems in purple districts are going to be in deep doodoo for having voted for a law, i.e., the Women's Health Protection Act, that would permit abortion, without restriction, up to the moment of birth.
Bottom line: Not only was Dobbs rightly decided on Constitutional grounds,...
...but, in the end, it will work out well for rational antiSwampers like pb.
