John Eastman, who concocted the 1887 Electoral Count Act gambit, sought a pardon in the days after last year’s attack on the Capitol, the House Jan. 6 committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riot revealed on Thursday.
“I’ve decided I should be on the pardon list, if that is still in the works,” Eastman said in an email to Rudy Giuliani that was quoted during the select committee’s third public hearing on Thursday.
So far Donald Trump has been utilizing the George Costanza defense. Despite all the evidence proving the legitimacy of Joe Biden's election win Donald Trump has been acting as if he thinks he really won and there was a constitutional way for him to remain in office. In other words as Jerry Seinfeld was told by his bald pal, "it's not a lie if you believe it."
However there's good reason to think that Trump doesn't believe his own lies. That he did not grant John Eastman a pardon indicates this. Eastman ask for a pardon for the only reason that anybody would ask for a pardon. That is they don't want to go to jail or otherwise pay a penalty for their crimes. Eastman and Trump worked hand in glove trying to overthrow the presidential election. If Trump were to pardon his partner in crime he would have to acknowledge that a crime was committed and that he took part in it.
