In communism, the means of production and prices are controlled by the central government to insure that all the people will have their necessities.

In capitalism, the means of production are controlled by private enterprise with prices moderated by the laws of supply and demand.

It is interesting how many Americans, including Republicans, want the federal government to control the price and availability of everything from gasoline to baby formula.

I remember it well back in the 70's when our then Republican President Nixon imposed wage and price controls on our nation.

  2. by HatetheSwamp on June 7, 2022 1:31 pm

    Curt,

GOPs don't want Joe to control prices. I can guarantee you that, if Joe attempted to freeze the price of gasoline, GOPs would go ballistic.

What they want is for Joe to back off of his rigid support for Green New Deal values.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on June 7, 2022 1:32 pm

    isle,

Didn't the Country Club GOP minority oppose Nixon's price controls?

  4. by Donna on June 7, 2022 1:39 pm
Yeah, you tell 'em Hts. Fuck our ecosystem! Who needs it?

  5. by HatetheSwamp on June 7, 2022 1:50 pm

    C'mon, man, gimme a break!

Joe has done everything but offer BJs to tyrants in Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Iran to get them to pump oil for us.

Apparently, he's very willing to screw the ecosystem.

And. I thought we promised Curt we would drop F bombs.

Biden's stuck between a rock and a hard place: either do what he can to mitigate climate change, or allow gasoline prices to continue to skyrocket and effectively forfeit any chances the Dems have of winning the next two elections.

    ...wouldn't drop F bombs.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on June 7, 2022 1:58 pm

If Joe wants to make political hay he can spark domestic oil production, offering hope for lower gas prices in the future and good paying jobs in the present.

  9. by Donna on June 7, 2022 2:58 pm
Yeah, he could do that, but doing that would get back to what I said about being between a rock and a hard place as those drilling sites are in ecologically sensitive areas.

He can't wi on this. No one could. It's the ultimate conundrum.

  10. by HatetheSwamp on June 7, 2022 3:11 pm

Trump encouraged and empowered domestic energy production, providing high paying US jobs and insuring that our oil production would be far better regulated than it ever will be in Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Iran. Joe blew it.

And, Joe also hugely blew it when he shut down the Keystone XL pipeline which would have pumped Canadian oil which is produced with the greatest possible concern for the ecosystem.

I can't agree with you. What Joe did and what he hopes to do is very bad for the planet.

It's absolutely foolhardy for the planet...and for his party.

Didn't the Country Club GOP minority oppose Nixon's price controls?

So now you are describing yourself as a Country Club GOP" ?

  12. by HatetheSwamp on June 7, 2022 5:07 pm

No. But you probably know that the GOP of Nixon's day is no longer today's GOP. Reagan and Newt changed everything. Now it's the party that controls Congress more often than not. And, usually the White House when there's not substantial vote fraud.

  13. by Donna on June 7, 2022 8:49 pm
What I've noticed during my lifetime is that the Republican Party has the highest concentration of psychopaths. So they've been successful in that regard.

  14. by HatetheSwamp on June 8, 2022 3:50 am

Please give us your data. Please please please please please!

So now it's not that Blue MAGAs are just smarter. Now, it's that GOPs are more psychotic. Bahahahahahahahahahaha!

  15. by islander on June 8, 2022 6:13 am

So what is it, Hate? You say that the Republicans in Nixon’s days, the ones you call “Country Club Republicans” did NOT support Nixon and his government imposed wage and price controls, but, as you say, they are not the Republicans of today who DO support government wage and price controls ???

  16. by HatetheSwamp on June 8, 2022 6:23 am
