Some of you might remember watching the Watergate hearings which were aired live on the all the television networks. 50 years ago there were three commercial networks, NBC, CBS and ABC plus educational TV. Then the production values were minimal but sufficient for the times: one camera aimed at the witness and the other aimed at the congressional questioners.

Now with hundreds of television viewing options, production values will be upgraded to meet today's viewer's expectations.

1972 was a different time. People, then regardless of party affiliation, didn't think that breaking into a building was acceptable behavior. Nor was anybody saying that lying to the FBI or to Congress while under oath should be excused. People then didn't ignore congressional subpoenas.

(AdWeek)According to Axios‘ Mike Allen, [former ABC News president James] Goldston has been “busily producing Thursday’s 8 p.m. ET hearing as if it were a blockbuster investigative special.”

Allen writes, “Goldston plans to make it raw enough so that skeptical journalists will find the material fresh, and chew over the disclosures in future coverage. And he wants it to draw the eyeballs of Americans who haven’t followed the ins and outs of the Capitol riot probe.”

Elsewhere it is reported that Trump allies will be presenting "counter-programming" to run against the congressional committee's presentation. This would seem to be an indication of Trump and company's nervousness.

The committee's presentation will air in prime time, starting Thursday, June 9th at 8pm Eastern time. Check your local listings.

This all strikes me as bizarre. I'm aware that this programming is being prepared. I’ve checked it out and remain confused about how to watch it. If you find information on how to watch it, I'd appreciate it if you'd post it.

Elsewhere it is reported that Trump allies will be presenting "counter-programming" to run against the congressional committee's presentation. This would seem to be an indication of Trump and company's nervousness.

I'm not sure how that will work either.

Following conservative media probably a little more closely than you bahahahahahahahahahaha, my sense of the GOP take on the Jan 6th thing, since Pelosi refused to allow the GOPs to appoint its own members, is that the Committee exists to produce political propaganda...

...and that it should be responded to that way.

I guess that Dems hope that this will interest voters in the so-called "insurrection" but, even if that works, voters will forget all about it the next time they pump gas, then walk by the baby formula section of the grocery store and then pay the cashier on the way out.

  2. by Curt_Anderson on June 6, 2022 1:55 pm
What percent of the population do you think is dependent upon baby formula? I'm guessing not too many.

As for inflation, it's not the catastrophe that the media reports. By the way, inflation is running at about 8%. Wages for low-earners is up about 7%.

Anyway, peoples' economic situation aside, most of them can hold two thoughts in there heads at the same time. A person can dislike both high prices and high treason.

Some of the more reasonable Republicans will think twice about nominating or associating with a man who is responsible for an insurrection.

Yeah, you tell 'em Curt! Fuck those poor mothers!

  4. by HatetheSwamp on June 6, 2022 3:12 pm

H, e, double hockey sticks, Donna. Grandmas are more protective of their grandkids than many mamas.

Sometimes I suspect that Curt wishes he were Tara Reade. His unwavering devotion is becoming a tad uncomfortable.

    Donna,
Have you heard of any babies dying or becoming malnourished because of a lack of baby formula? I suspect that it's overhyped.

I recall you saying that there was not a baby formula shortage in the stores you worked. I suspect that panic buying and hoarding has cleared a lot of the baby formula shelves. Constant media reports doesn't help either.

It's rather a ridiculous that a product that mothers can produce naturally suddenly becomes essential. I suspect that mothers of infants born in the last few months are thinking twice before they give up breastfeeding.

There are mothers' milk banks in some cities. My wife donated milk 40 years ago. Baby formula is still sold on Amazon. Not to mention the military is bringing it in from Europe.

    No problems are insurmountable.

Apparently you're blind to the fact that almost all low income mothers have to work, and there's not enough hours in the day to take time out to save their breast milk, especially if they're single moms.

  7. by Curt_Anderson on June 6, 2022 4:18 pm
My wife worked AND breastfed. I mentioned she donated milk. Women can express milk for later use. With the worker shortages that are happening now coupled with the formula shortage, I seriously doubt that many employers would dare forbid their female employees from pumping their breasts.

  8. by Donna on June 6, 2022 4:30 pm
And she had you to support her.

"As for inflation, it's not the catastrophe that the media reports. By the way, inflation is running at about 8%. Wages for low-earners is up about 7%."

"Have you heard of any babies dying or becoming malnourished because of a lack of baby formula? I suspect that it's overhyped."

Sometimes I just have to laugh at your lack of empathy.

  9. by Curt_Anderson on June 6, 2022 4:35 pm
    But I wasn't lactating.

Anyway "if there isn't enough time in the day" as you suggest for single working moms to pump breast milk, then there isn't enough time to search and shop for formula.

  10. by Donna on June 6, 2022 4:40 pm
Because when you shop for formula, you don't buy a carton along with the rest of your groceries - you make a special trip to the store and buy one can. And then when you need more, you go back to the store just to buy another can.

    *rolling eyes*

    Good grief, Curt.

  11. by Curt_Anderson on June 6, 2022 4:47 pm
    Donna,
So your argument in favor of formula is that it's a time-saving convenience. Ok. That's an option some people might take. I don't think it's the best choice.

  12. by Donna on June 6, 2022 4:57 pm
It's not a choice for many mothers. You're only looking at your own situation.

  13. by Curt_Anderson on June 6, 2022 5:05 pm
It's a choice for about 99% of mothers to breastfeed or not. A tiny percent of mothers cannot produce milk, and they are mostly mothers who have adopted--not likely the single, working mothers you cited.

Read what the La Leche League has to say about it.

  14. by Donna on June 6, 2022 5:28 pm
I'm sure that many mothers have started breastfeeding in response to the shortage. I'm thinking about the ones who can't.

  15. by HatetheSwamp on June 7, 2022 2:50 am

    Curt,

Apparently you have no shame in your defense of the Former Truck Driver.

Demeaning the struggles of mothers of infants to minimize the failure of the Biden administration's management of the baby formula shortage? Talk about despicable!

This is precisely why I compare you to an Ultra-MAGA attending a Trump rally.

TV News Shakes Up Schedules to Cover Jan. 6 Committee Report on Capitol Attack

"It’s easy to think of the whole thing as a potboiler drama, something that might entertain as easily as an hour of “Law & Order.” But there’s so much more at stake, says Costa, who hopes viewers will give the proceedings more attention than they might normally during a weeknight. “This is deadly serious. This is American democracy. This story deserves more attention. It’s a primetime story, but it’s not a one-and-done special movie. This is real life. This is democracy under the microscope.”

Expectations are running high, he says. “I have been walking around the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate all Monday, talking to lawmakers in both chambers and asking them, ‘What does this all mean? What are we going to learn?'” he says. “Lawmakers are telling me in both parties that they are on edge about what the Committee has found.” He interviewed Rep. Liz Cheney, the Republican who is a member of the House Committee, for “CBS Sunday Morning” and says “she is confident that they have found material and evidence that paints the picture, and I’ll be watching to see what happens.'”

    Gang,

pb is going to chime in on this beforehand hand, from the perspective of someone on the side that believes that widespread vote fraud by the left to elect the Doddering Old Fool is a proven fact.

Our truth is that the Dems cheated. But very few care any longer about what happened between election day and the inauguration.

Considering how widely the Jan 6th show will be aired, pb doubts that many will watch...

...and almost no one will be won over.

You Blue MAGAs here are already convinced. pb's been saying that there's nuthin new here. His opinion is set.

    Our minds are made up.

As far as anyone else? What matters is shrinkflation, empty shelves, record high gas prices, moms and dads grammies and pap paps panicking over feeding babies and fear of rising crime.

Me, I'll be mad that my LAW AND ORDER rerun will be pre-empted.

But, if you Blue MAGA Swampcult progressives think that people are going to be outraged and stream to the polls to vote for Dems,...

    ...get over it.
