This extraordinary international cooperation is a tribute to President Joe Biden, who has made defense of democracy at home and abroad the centerpiece of his presidency. Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and State Department officials have been calling, meeting, listening, and building alliances with allies since they took office, and by last Thanksgiving they were making a concerted push to bring the world together in anticipation of Putin’s aggression.

"Olesya Khromeychuk is a historian and writer. She is Director of the Ukrainian Institute London and has taught the history of East-Central Europe at several British universities. Khromeychuk is the author of "A Loss. The Story of a Dead Soldier Told by His Sister."

"When my elder brother, Volodymyr, joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces, he explained his decision to me: "little one, don't you realize this is a European war. It just happened to start in eastern Ukraine." He was killed by shrapnel in 2017 in the Luhansk region on the front. He was fighting against Russian troops that were pretending not to be there.

They no longer need to pretend. The Russian president ordered their assault on the whole of Ukraine, targeting the military as well as civilians, including hospitals and ambulances.

My civilian friends -- writers, academics, artists -- are all staying in Ukraine to defend their cities. A scholar of English Victorian literature is sheltering internally displaced persons (IDPs) and coordinating the flood of media requests. A filmmaker and a historian joined the country's growing territorial defense. A professor is giving an online lecture on Ukrainian culture from Kyiv while listening out for air raid sirens outside her window.

I am a historian. I realize that we are living through a moment that will be on every syllabus of European history. Now is the time to decide what place each one of us wants to have in that history. Stand With Ukraine."

Who the hell is pouring that firkin of diuretic bullshit down your gullible gullet?

His historically unique tactic of releasing our intelligence on Russia's plans in real time to allies in Europe for weeks ahead of Trump's boyfriend pulling the trigger was actually pretty bold and brilliant.

Cooperation is not something that people like Trump and Putin are used to having much experience with. So it may be that they don't expect it like they should in their adversaries. At least Putin didn't in this instance. Huge miscalculation on his part. Biden, on the other hand, has employed cooperation and openness with our allies and partners from the very beginning. It's not a weapon that Putin is used to facing.
