(ABC News)Jonathan Turley says current evidence doesn't support articles of impeachment
Jonathan Turley, a George Washington University law professor and Republican witness, said in his opening statement he didn't believe impeachment articles against President Biden were warranted at this time.

"I want to emphasize what it is that we're here today for," he said. "This is a question of an impeachment inquiry. It is not a vote on articles of impeachment. In fact, I do not believe that the current evidence would support articles of impeachment. That is something that inquiry has to establish."

    Sounds like the DC Kabuki theater is running out of believable scripts. The imaginary impeachment is derailed which means the imaginary gov't shutdown is not going to be imaginary delayed.

    Turley, pb's Legal Goober #2, member of pb's Legal Advisory Council, was, as po'd say, the FIRST EFFINWITNESS. And, he wasn't offering evidence.

    Sadly, my guess is that you ain't joshin.

    If this were a court of law, what the GOP is doing would be like the prosecutor of a case asking for an undefined indictment before they even had any actual evidence of any specific crime, while leaving it up to the judge and jury to look into it and discover a crime for the defendant to be prosecuted for.

    Bruce Dubinsky, a forensic accountant testifying for House Republicans, agreed with his fellow witness, Jonathan Turley, during the Thursday hearing. He told lawmakers that decisive evidence has yet to show Joe Biden financially benefited from Hunter Biden’s business dealing.


    Attorneys know better than to put somebody on the stand unless you know in advance what they are going to say. Chairman Jim Jordan, who graduated from law school but never passed the bar exam, missed that lesson. Reportedly Republican committee members expressed surprise at Turley's pushback.

    "I do not believe there is a constitutional basis for impeaching President Biden," attorney Alan Dershowitz told Newsweek via email following Turley's statement. "He has not committed treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors while serving as president."

    "The entire impeachment inquiry is based on politics, not evidence, so it's no surprise that their own legal expert threw cold water on it," Dave Aronberg, a state attorney for Florida's Palm Beach County, told Newsweek via social media.

    This hearing has been a disaster for Jim Comer and the other Republicultists.

    Some Republicans privately fretted that Mr. Comer did not appear in control of the proceedings and had undercut his own narrative by calling witnesses who did not fully support it. Speaking on the condition of anonymity to avoid publicly criticizing colleagues, one senior House Republican aide called the session disastrous.

    Instead of a deep dive into alleged wrongdoing by a president, the hourslong hearing mostly devolved into a partisan brawl.

    “I am not here today to even suggest that there was corruption, fraud or any wrongdoing,” said Bruce G. Dubinsky, a forensic accountant. “In my opinion, more information needs to be gathered and assessed before I would make such an assessment.”

    Fox News’ Neil Cavuto was less than impressed with the evidence put forward at Thursday’s first impeachment investigation into Joe Biden, saying, “You think you’d bring your A-game” when trying to have a president removed from office.

    “I don’t know what was achieved over these last six-plus hours,” Cavuto said at the top of his show.

    “The way this was built up — where there’s smoke there would be fire…but where there’s smoke today, we got more smoke,” he said. He said more enticing evidence may be forthcoming, but, so far, “The promise of explosive testimony and proof …did not materialize today.
