Gang,

I began to enjoy getting my news from NPR decades ago...sometime in the 80s. I used to drive my wife to work in the morning and listen to MORNING EDITION on the way home. Later, I made it a regular habit to listen to ALL THINGS CONSIDERED in the evenings, though I'd been listening since the mid 70s.

The rhythms of my life ebbed and flowed over the years, but NPR's reporting was always my go-to...

...until NPR contracted the disease that became a pandemic among news reporting organizations:TDS.

It became impossible for me to even turn to the NPR spot on my radio dial during the Trump years. I haven't listened for years.

Very early this morning, by happenstance, I was fiddling with the presets on an old boom box and turned to an NPR signal, and...magic! It was as if I listened yesterday.

Trump's not in the news. Nina Totenberg was reporting on an issue related to court decisions.

You know what it's like in a deep, genuine, authentic friendship? You don't see each other for years and when you do meet, it's like you saw each other yesterday.

That's exactly what it was.

Trump's not in the news. I'm sure that when he is, we'll have to take a break from each other...

...but, for now? NPR and pb? Copacetic!

You listened to NPR back when conservatives thought NPR was too liberal.

  2. by HatetheSwamp on December 8, 2021 8:49 am

    Donna,

It still is too liberal but conservatives and libertarians develop a thick skin about that.

And, remember, I was a lib back then. I voted for Carter twice and Mondale and even Dukakis, though I could tell that NPR was pitching to the left outside corner of the plate.

Isn’t TDS short for Trump Derangement Syndrome? If so, what’s wrong with TDS?

    Trump Derangement Syndrome:

TDS is a pejorative term usually for criticism or negative reactions to former United States President Donald Trump that are perceived to be irrational by Trump supporters and enablers.

Unless the criticisms are false there is nothing wrong with having a negative reaction to them, and as far as I know Trump supporters and enablers aren’t claiming they’re false. You’re not claiming they are false, are you, Hate? I’ve heard many of the same criticisms coming from you which is why you say you despise him (negative reaction).

Although i consider Trump a prefigurement of the Antichrist, the TDS always got to me. I'm glad he's not in the news anymore.

islander, to answer your question, did you not hear the fearmongering about Trump starting a nuclear holocaust, Trump locking up every non-wh*te in America, etc? Kids hear this stuff and take it on board. It's not good for them.

  6. by islander on December 9, 2021 5:35 am

georges, Yes, I have heard things like that, and I’ve heard that the Democrats want to take away my guns, or that Biden is a fool who is suffering from dementia and Obama wasn’t born in this country, etc. Lots of people, Democrats, Republicans, and people in between, fear things that we don’t and believe things that we see as foolish.

To me...If I were to use terms like Trump Derangement Syndrome, this would be a perfect example!

    Isle,

    Two words, no three:

    Second effin Amendment.

I try not to think that you hate America but, c'mon man, gimme a break!

We are a people who have always believed that "we are endowed by our CREATOR with certain inalienable rights."

    One of them is this:

"...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

    And, you mock.
