I stumbled on this as a Drudge headline. They call it a "shock poll." I don't think there's much shock in it anymore.

I confess that I'm a bit of a poll nerd. I love reading the internals of polls but this article lays it out clearly and succinctly.

Here's some highlights, or, for the former 18 wheeler driver, lowlights:

"Americans say 46 - 38 percent they would want to see the Republican Party win control of the House of Representatives...

Americans say 46 - 40 percent they would want to see the Republican Party win control of the U.S. Senate, while 15 percent did not offer an opinion. Independents say 44 - 34 percent that they would want to see the Republican Party win control of the U.S. Senate, and 22 percent did not offer an opinion.

Americans give President Biden a negative 36 - 53 percent job approval rating, while 10 percent did not offer an opinion. It's the lowest job approval rating he's received in a Quinnipiac University national poll.

Roughly 6 in 10 Americans (61 percent) say the nation's economy is getter worse, 21 percent say it's staying about the same, and 16 percent say it's getting better."

BTW, I was stunned when, despite the MSM's fawning, sycophantic coverage of Biden, his RCP approval sank to -10. Those were the good old days. Now it's -12.7!!!!!

I continue to think that Joe's doing as well as he can. I'm shocked that he is falling so sharply in popularity.

And, I remember the difficulty my dad had, as his dementia advanced, relating to the world when things didn't go dad's way. Poor Joe must be beside himself.

The thing is, polls are like Horoscopes, a lot of people take them both too seriously, seriously enough to think they reflect reality which is why I don’t really pay too much attention to them, except sometimes for a bit of entertainment.

For example, in this pole 60+ percent think the economy is doing worse. What does that tell you? I guess it does tell you that the sampling of people they asked are ill-informed. It doesn’t tell you anything about the economy since the reality is that the economy is doing much better.

Polls can’t tell you how an election will turn out this early in the game, however, if a politician is trying to use this pole to help win an election, I suppose it could give the politician a hint as to how best to run his or her campaign…try to keep the people ill-informed…or try working to keep the people better informed.

A fun poll would be to ask might be, knowing all of the above, which of those two politicians would you vote for?

    Economy doing better?

People face inflation with misgiving. Higher prices at the gas pump. In the grocery store.

By what measure you conclude the economy's better is by your own standard.

Based on the emerging Carterian interest rates and inflation? I think it's reasonable that more than 60% of the population thinks things are worse.

The conclusion is based on the info provided by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Inflation is happening everywhere on the globe, not just the US. The cause is COVID and the interruption it caused to the supply chain. Prices are going up here because manufacturers and retailers are having to turn to more expensive domestic suppliers. There isn't a lot any president can do about it, although Biden has

However, what can be done, the Biden administration is doing. "The combined actions of government, labor, port operators and the private sector have resulted in a 32% drop in containers sitting on dock for more than nine days in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach."

If your are one of those guys with a "Buy American" sticker on your Honda's bumper, you should be over the moon.

No stickers on my Toyota hybrid.

I'm aware that the former 18 wheeler driver has done (a) little.

My sense of his biggest problem is that, due to his significant cognitive decline, he's incapable of empathy and, increasingly, voters feel disconnected from him. He's lost the ability to inspire trust.

Under any circumstances, his popularity would have declined. But, not like this...

Har! I guess you miss the empathetic Donald Trump.

Chris Christie says that when he was hospitalized with COVID-19 in October 2020, President Donald Trump called to make sure Christie wouldn't blame him for the infection, according to The New York Times, which obtained an excerpt of Christie's new book.

Christie writes that his priest arrived in the hospital and rubbed oils on his forehead in the sign of the cross, praying over him.

He got a call from a hospitalized [with Covid] Mr. Trump, who had one main concern: “Are you gonna say you got it from me?” Mr. Trump asked him.

    Islander, regarding that video: Exactly.

I despise Donald Trump. I think he's despicable.

I think that, with the Virginia debacle, other Blue MAGAs, besides you, learned that you can't cover for the incompetence of the flatulent fool with:

    Trump Trump Trump Trump.
    Trump.

By the way, I wrote a TDS anthem and published it back on the old forum. I'm sure you don't remember.

Sing twice to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat, while washing hands. It's a great way to fight Covid.

    "Trump, Trump, Trump is bad,
    Nasty things Trump did.
    Carefully, carefully do we watch.
    Nothing will be hid."

These days it's all about the former 18 wheeler driver.
