Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) called Carlson Russia’s “useful idiot.” After Navalny’s death, he added: “History will not be kind to those in America who make apologies for Putin and praise Russian autocracy. Nor will history be kind to America’s leaders who stay silent because they fear backlash from online pundits.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) urged fellow Republican and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to “spend less time pushing Russian propaganda.”

A top political aide to Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) promoted Young’s denunciation of Navalny’s death by saying, “My U.S. Senator is not a venal Putin apologist, but I’m less sure about yours.”

Presidential candidate Nikki Haley said Navalny was killed by the “same Putin who Donald Trump praises and defends.” Haley soon noted that, while Trump weighed in repeatedly on NATO this week and posted dozens of times on Truth Social on Friday, he hasn’t yet mentioned Navalny.

Former Trump vice president Mike Pence posted, more generally, “There is no room in the Republican Party for apologists for Putin.”

I didn't see it. Where is it found? Link?

Curt, Putin didn't even like the interview!

Putin Humiliates Tucker Carlson After Interview

Vladimir Putin has complained about Tucker Carlson failing to ask him "tough questions" during their high-profile encounter last week.

Talking to Russian journalist Pavel Aleksandrovich Zarubin on state-television Rossiya-1 on Wednesday, the Russian president said: "To be honest, I thought that he would behave aggressively and ask so-called sharp questions. I was not just prepared for this, I wanted it, because it would give me the opportunity to respond in the same way."

Putin added that he did not "feel full satisfaction from this interview," delivering yet another blow to Carlson, after he humiliated the broadcaster during the interview by ignoring almost all of his questions and barely letting him speak.

The interview with the former Fox News host—which was over two hours long—was the first Putin has given to an American journalist since before Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022—nearly two years ago—despite many attempts from Western media and reporters.

Dmitry Peskov, Putin's spokesman, told reporters that the president gave an interview to Carlson because "he has a position which differs" from other Western media [ 😁 ]. Before his departure from the network, Carlson used his platform on Fox News to question American support for Kyiv.

Newsweek contacted the Tucker Carlson Network for comment by email on Thursday, outside of normal working hours.

Carlson's interview with Putin, which was held in Moscow, was dominated by the Russian president's lengthy lecture on the history of Russia and Ukraine, which in his eyes justifies Russia's invasion of its neighbor. Despite the fact that Putin's claims were deemed "a complete falsehood" by experts such as Sergey Radchenko, a historian at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, when interviewed by the BBC, Tucker did little to challenge the authoritarian leader on his narrative.

Even those who Tucky shills for don't even respect him! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

“History will not be kind to those in America who make apologies for Putin and praise Russian autocracy.”

My guess is history will wonder why we were so obsessed with a failed country with an economy the size of Italy's.

It is a long list. There are many Republicans willing to offer formal defense of Vladimir Putin through a positive explanation.

Start with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, and Republicans in Congress who have blocked to Ukraine, Thereby giving aid and comfort to Vladimir Putin. See link.

Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson both responded to questions about Putin’s brutality and his murder of political opponents by saying other world leaders do the same.

HtS panned Joe Biden‘s remark about Navalny and Putin yesterday. Donald Trump had nothing to say to subject yesterday. Trump is previously called Vladimir Putin “smart“ and a “genius“.

I don’t see how a person can be against Ukraine, or against giving Ukraine aid without being pro Putin. According to Pew, formal defense through a positive explanation.

Allow me to correct my last paragraph in my comment above. It should’ve said that according to the pollsters at Pew, which I linked to, Republicans are evenly split on having a favorable or unfavorable view of Ukraine.

Start with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, and Republicans in Congress who have blocked (moolah) to Ukraine, Thereby giving aid and comfort to Vladimir Putin.

Bullfernerner, man. You're saying that people who voted for George McGovern back in 72 were Ho Chi Minh apologists.

    Nuh uh, bruh.

I'm as hawkish on Ukraine as anyone here but I have enuff of a brain to realize that "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap's" Ukraine policy is an invitation to American disaster.

    And, I despise Putin.

    HtS,
If you are against giving military aide to Ukraine, you are one of Putin's useful idiots.

Splain how you're suggesting that Mike Johnson and many GOPs are actually against giving military aide to Ukraine. I think Johnson, and nearly all GOPs, support aide to Ukraine.

I follow the GOPs and right-wing media closely. The number of DC GOPs outright opposed to giving aide to Ukraine is extremely small. Please enlighten me if you think that I'm wrong.

  12. by Curt_Anderson on February 17, 2024 11:25 am
The number of Republicans opposed to providing aid to Ukraine may be small (it's most of the House GOP), but more than sufficient to gladden the heart of Putin. See image.

    Curt,

I know you ain't that stupid. To suggest that the House ain't swallowing a Senate Bill hook, line and sinker doesn't mean that they support Putin.

What'd be constructive is if Chuck You Schumer would propose a Conference Committee to work on the differences between the two Houses over concerns related to the US, Ukraine and Israeli borders.

It seems to me that it's the Senate Dems who support Putin because the House opened up by passing H2 a looooooooong time ago.

    Eh?
