I recommend this The Hill opinion piece.

It exposes Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his long list of debunked claims and his have-it-both-ways political positions. If he gets onto many state ballots, his flip-flopping won't be unknown to the public. For example, Kennedy characterized the National Rifle Association as “a terrorist group.” He has now said “as president, I will respect the Second Amendment.” Or when he stated that anyone who wanted to close the U.S. border with Mexico was “probably a xenophobe and maybe a racist.” More recently, in a conversation that involved Elon Musk, he promised to “try to formulate policies that will seal the border permanently.”

The op-ed ends with this:

Not surprisingly, members of the Kennedy family are anguished and angry at RFK Jr.’s behavior. Jack Schlossberg, John F. Kennedy’s grandson, said it best: “He’s trading in on Camelot, celebrity, conspiracy theories and conflict for personal gain and fame. I’ve listened to him. I know him. I have no idea why anyone thinks he should be president.”

You mean he wants it both ways like Biden when he said he would clean up the internment camps for kids at the borders and promptly did nothing or when the Trumpster said he would build the wall and make Mexico pay for it and then promptly did nothing about it? 🤔

It's comical how brainwashed you folks are the Dupe Party System.

It is one thing when a politician makes aspirational promises as a candidate then confronts reality once elected---like a recalcitrant Congress. It's another when a candidate espouses diametrically opposing views depending on which way the wind blows on a given day.

You aren't defending RFK Jr. other than to say other candidates do it too, so let's examine your claim about Biden:

    BIDEN PROMISE TRACKER
End federal government's use of private prisons and detention centers
    In the Works

Does Biden plan to abolish immigration detention?
    CLAIM
Trump claimed that the Sanders-Biden task force group had proposed to "abolish immigration detention."

    EVIDENCE
The task force proposed to abolish for-profit immigration detention centers in particular, not abolish immigration detention entirely. It did propose to reduce the use of immigration detention, but not to get rid of it.

    Curt,

What we agree about is that RFKJ is a mess. What I get that you don't is that the Doddering Old Fool's so disastrous an incumbent that he's turned Kennedy into a viable alternative.

    Baha.

  4. by oldedude on February 5, 2024 4:50 am
curt, Lead, and I agree that RFKJ is a mess. I haven't given much credence to him running, and the fact he has any numbers at all say the dims are looking elsewhere for someone to replace pedojoe is pretty telling also.

I also understand there are beliefs a candidate may change as president, but they should also have some core values. trumpster thought he could build the wall and have Mexico pay for it. Got it. I think that's so minor, it's not worth talking about. But it's true.

pedojoe came across as "grandpa joe." Other than all parents should keep that grandpa away from their children, he's completely turned from Jeckyl to Hyde in the eyes of conservatives. In addition to losing any moderate conservative, his actions are making parents (especially) "never pedojoe." So both sides are running campaigns to reject the other side in order to save our republic.

curt- on a "point of order" only. You have said repeatedly that you don't "accept" "opinion" pieces as fact (which is true by its definition). And then you use one for the basis for your argument. As I stated above, I don't have a problem with it, and I know that "all" media stories are basically an "opinion" piece, but... which way is it?

pedojoe came across as "grandpa joe."

The Doddering Old Fool comes across as that curmudgeon in your childhood neighborhood who sits in a chair on his front porch, waving his fist in the air, screaming, "GET OFF MY LAWN!"

    OD,
If an opinion piece simply asserts that some politician is a great person or a terrible person, I don’t put much stock in it. However, if an opinion piece backs it up with verifiable quotations, votes and/or actions by the politician, then it is worth sharing and letting people make up their own minds.

  7. by oldedude on February 5, 2024 9:02 am
I could live with that. I also think more than half of your equation is if you agree with them or not.

  8. by Curt_Anderson on February 5, 2024 12:02 pm
    OD,
You are correct. We all assume that our opinions are true and factual. If somebody has an opinion which agrees with mine, I don’t need much convincing that they are right. However, if somebody has a contrary opinion, I like to see evidence, not just an op-ed saying so and so is a jerk.

I am of the opinion, that Oregon is more mountainous than Nebraska. If somebody disagrees I’d need more than an opinion to convince me that I am wrong. Polls are compiled opinions. Even if a majority of people told pollsters that Nebraska is very mountainous I would not accept that as fact.

You're so caught up in the he said / he said nonsense of the two (read: one) parties you don't even realizes there's absolutely no difference between you and Trumpers, Curt.

  10. by Curt_Anderson on February 5, 2024 3:30 pm
    Indy,
You are the only one here who finds Donald Trump and Joe Biden indistinguishable from each other. I see a lot of difference between the two in terms of style, substance and their positions. The same goes for the two major political parties: They are different from each other.

Maybe on a superficial level to a visitor from a distant planet the two parties seem the same. But other than the fact they typically don’t hold office what would an extraterrestrial see that distinguishes third parties from major parties?

One thing I will say for third parties is that they don’t break their promises once in office: but that’s only because they never get elected.

You are so EFFINcredulous, Curt. I'm hearing the term "uniparty" more and more all the time. You're just a tad slow. Hopefully just a tad.

The genius of the Swamp is that it provides a good cop and a bad cop and lets the gullible choose which is which. You've fallen hook, line and sinker.

  12. by Indy! on February 6, 2024 12:44 pm

You're the one who is judging by superficial differences, Curt. Are they different? Sure - the GOP likes the color red - the Ds like the color blue - opposite ends of the color spectrum (more or less). The big issues they are in complete agreement... time for another war? Both parties jump in feet first. Shitty healthcare? GOP writes it up - Democrats pass it. Etc...

  13. by Curt_Anderson on February 6, 2024 1:36 pm
There is more than symbolic colors that distinguish Democrats from Republicans.

In this CNN video John King interviews Republican voters. One of the Trump voters is convinced that Trump was put in office by God and will again this November. She has no coherent explanation as to why God didn't see fit to keep Trump in office in 2020. Another Trump voter wants to place landmines on our border to stop immigrants.

In the same video former Governor Mark Sanford explains how Trump Republicans have no tolerance for nuance and the how Republicans have become extremists.

With perhaps the exception of a few on the far left fringe, I've never heard Democrats talking like that.

    HtS,
You presumably aren’t shielded from negative news about Democrats. What reports have you heard about Democrats that is comparable to “God made Trump” and/or the advocating of placing land mines on our southern border?

  16. by HatetheSwamp on February 6, 2024 3:22 pm

    You're a hoot, Curt

The ratings dominance of GUTFELD! is built on those stories. You don't know this?

In fact, the opening block of his Friday show consists primarily of those stories. You choose ignorance. It's cute.

But, buddy, really. Watch the first 15 minutes some Friday. You'll probably laugh like you did on that Shane Gillis video.
