This morning, HtS breathlessly rushed to share a video of James Comer making his unsubstantiated accusations against Joe Biden, calling the allegations "evidence".

James Comer is a farmer. I have nothing against farmers, but wouldn't the House Republicans be better off in their efforts to impeach Biden if it were led by somebody with some legal training and an understanding of the rules of evidence? Comer has misfired more than an untuned Yugo.

(WaPo)As House Republicans move toward a floor vote to authorize an impeachment inquiry against President Biden, House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) has again mischaracterized evidence of payments from Hunter Biden to his father.

In an email to reporters, a spokesperson for Comer claimed that the House Oversight Committee, which is investigating Biden, had obtained bank records revealing that Hunter Biden’s law firm, Owasco PC, which had received payments from Chinese-state-linked companies and other foreign companies in the past, made direct monthly payments to Joe Biden. The email claimed the payments “are part of a pattern revealing Joe Biden knew about, participated in and benefited from his family’s influence-peddling schemes.”

The three payments of $1,380 that occurred in September, October and November 2018 — nearly two years after Biden had left the vice presidency — were actually for a 2018 Ford Raptor truck Joe Biden had purchased that Hunter Biden was using, according to an email verified by a Washington Post forensic analysis.

James Comer Claims Hunter Biden's Truck Payments Are Corruption

WASHINGTON ― House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) announced Monday that Republicans had discovered evidence of direct payments from one of Hunter Biden’s businesses to his father.

The way Comer made the announcement may have said more about the ongoing effort to impeach President Joe Biden, however, than it did about the president’s alleged corruption.

“Payments from Hunter’s business entity to Joe Biden are now part of a pattern revealing Joe Biden knew about, participated in, and benefited from his family’s influence peddling schemes,” Comer said in a press release.

But the release and Comer’s statement omitted some details, such as the amount of the payments and their apparent purpose. The release linked to a grainy redacted document indicating that in September 2018 Hunter Biden set up a recurring transfer to his father for $1,380 per month ― a tiny sum compared to the multimillion-dollar scale of the bribery and influence peddling schemes Republicans have alleged against Joe Biden.

It's a good thing for America that Hunter's been subpoenaed, eh?

No doubt, in the wake of his House testimony, Catholics across the world will be demanding instant canonization for Hunter and the Big Guy, too.

    Ain't, Curt!?

Hunter agreed to appear before a public congressional hearing. Now Comer reneged on that invitation.

I embrace the truth, peebs. You want to put Hunter (or Joe) in jail? Be my guest - I'd love to see it. Curt wants to put Trump in jail - more power to him, - I could use a good laugh. Too bad neither are ever happening.

  9. by HatetheSwamp on December 5, 2023 10:14 am

    Indy,

    I've been clear. I ain't po. I'm not a lynch mob member.

There is evidence that suggests that "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" has been lying about his knowledge of, and connection to, Hunter and Jim Biden's foreign business dealings.

I believe, in the light of the separation of powers and checks and balances among the three branches designed by the EFFINFounders, that the House is required to do a diligent inquiry into that data.

    That's all I favor.

  10. by Curt_Anderson on December 5, 2023 12:29 pm
    HtS,
So which is it? Does Biden have dementia or does he have criminal knowledge of his son's business dealings? Is Biden suffering from Alzheimer's disease or is he a criminal mastermind? You seem to be trying to have both ways.

  11. by HatetheSwamp on December 5, 2023 12:35 pm

That's a false dichotomy. Clearly, America's own Doddering Old Fool's incapable of running the scam HouseGOPs accuse him of running in previous years. He's been caught lying dozens of times in the past about the Crime Family and its foreign business dealings.

And, pb has never suggested that "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" has Alzheimer's. pb's always suggested that he suffers from vascular dementia, as did his dad.

  12. by Curt_Anderson on December 5, 2023 12:57 pm
Biden's dad?! Don't mean your own dad suffered from vascular dementia?

I realize this is difficult concept for you to grasp, but it is not illegal to make money from overseas business as a private citizen. It is not even illegal for family members of elected officials to make money from foreign interests. If you think it is, you should look harder at the Trump family's foreign business dealings.

What Comer and Jordan should focus on is finding a quid pro quo. It shouldn't be that difficult to search the public record for a law or policy that Joe Biden authored that benefits one of Hunter Biden's clients at the expense of the United States. Then you'd have a potential case of bribery.

  13. by Indy! on December 5, 2023 1:01 pm

Peebs, if that were your only motivation you would be demanding the House go after the Orange Clown just as hard as you want them to go after Presidementia™ Biden.

  14. by HatetheSwamp on December 5, 2023 1:16 pm

I realize this is difficult concept for you to grasp, but it is not illegal to make money from overseas business as a private citizen.

It is, however, illegal not to report the making of that money to Big Brother and paying the appropriate tax.

It's mysterious to many that the self-proclaimed "poorest man in the Senate" was able to pay cash for that Rehoboth mansion. Hence, the honest and sincere questions. Ain't!?

If Joe did nuthin illegal, there's no way that the party that is the home of openness and inclusion, acceptance, diversity, tolerance and FREETHINKING will impeach him.

  15. by oldedude on December 5, 2023 1:25 pm
And now. The rest of the story.

President Biden received a recurring payment of $1,380 from his son Hunter’s law firm beginning in late 2018 shortly after a bank money laundering officer warned that the same account was receiving millions of dollars in Chinese government-linked funds without “any services rendered.”

A bank order shows that Owasco PC set up a “monthly” transfer to then-former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., with a voided check for the future president included in the documentation, which was released Monday by the House Oversight Committee.

A source told The Post that at least three payments were made — on Sept. 17, Oct. 15 and Nov. 15, 2018 — totaling $4,140 to the elder Biden from Owasco PC, according to the firm’s bank records.

So here's the issue. Hunter's account had been flagged for improper transfers from potentially illegal sources. (banks won't say "illegal" sources because of liability). I'd say it's a good call on the bank's AML Office.

I realize this is difficult concept for you to grasp, but it is not illegal to make money from overseas business as a private citizen. It is not even illegal for family members of elected officials to make money from from foreign interests. If you think it is, you should look harder at the Trump family's foreign business dealings.

You're correct about making money from a foreign entity as a private citizen. Hunter did not register as a Foreign Agent though. that's a true problem. Since he didn't register, the money he did make is now gray funds. Not real clean as once thought. That said, we're talking about potentially illegal Chinese funds as "gifts" then all of a sudden, money squirts out to pedojoe. Remember also that Hunter received a diamond from the Chinese and illegally used the US banking system to layer and launder money from Russian Oligarchs.

I would think that in his "firm" pedojr would not convolute the money by mixing personal v. business funds. Especially given the amounts of money given to him.

    HtS,
Joe Biden has released his tax returns. Donald Trump has resisted all efforts to release his tax returns.

As for that Rehoboth Beach mansion you mentioned. Read what the USA Today fact checkers reported.

"[A]fter the former vice president left office, the same year their income jumped nearly $10 million from speaking fees and book deals." Biden's income was not limited to what he earned as a senator. He also made money from real estate, in addition to the book deals and speaking fees.

    OD,
Doesn't "a recurring payment of $1,380" seem like a rather picayune amount if it was a Chinese bribe?

    Gang,

This is why the Biden Crime Family issue is moving toward an Impeachment Inquiry.

The Doddering Old Fool's brain is so shot that all he is capable of these days is claiming that the evidence... in this case, documents... which GOPs have shown in front of cameras. (pb's seen them on this very phone....) is lies. Either the documents are very clever forgeries, or the Family is going to have to tell a convincing story.

And the hits just keep on coming! What happened to pedojoe not knowing anything about his son's business? They never talked, right? He must have known the business partner, so that seems like he's pretty familiar with the business. Maybe they were love letters?

Biden used shadow email account to exchange hundreds of messages with Hunter’s business partner

For nearly a decade, Joe Biden used multiple email aliases to send hundreds of messages to his son Hunter’s former business partner, a Republican-led House committee leading the impeachment inquiry into the president revealed Tuesday.

The 11-page log of emails allegedly sent and received by Joe Biden between 2010 and 2019 was obtained by the House Ways and Means Committee through metadata provided by IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler.

During that nine-year-period, Joe Biden used pseudonyms, such as “robinware456,” “JRBware” and “RobertLPeters,” to correspond with his son, other family members, White House officials and Hunter’s former business partner Eric Schwerin, according to the committee.

In total, Joe Biden fired off or was privy to 327 emails with Schwerin, the founding partner and managing director of Hunter’s defunct Rosemont Seneca Partners firm.

James Comer's latest Biden impeachment "bombshell" was another dud, and it wasn't even news. It's an old story.

MAGA-world denizens including James Comer and Jesse Watters are challenging reporters on how they know the $4000 Hunter repaid his father was for a truck loan rather than bribe money. The answer is that a Trump-loving newspaper reported it a year and half ago.

On April 26, 2022, The New York Post reported "President Joe Biden agreed to cover more than $800,000 in bills racked up by his son --
Other debts listed in the spreadsheet included payments and insurance for...a Ford truck." A screenshot in the article shows a loan repayment to his father for a Ford Raptor truck. See link.

"my question is on a senator's pay.... how could he cover a million dollar bill." --OD

    See comment #17.

"Prove it was a loan." --OD

The defense doesn't have to prove it was a loan...although it obviously is. The prosecution (or in this case, James Comer) needs to prove it was a quid pro quo bribe. In fact, Comer should have been able to prove there was some nefarious activity by Joe Biden in exchange the payment before Comer's "bombshell" announcement last week. You know, he should have gotten his ducks in row.

Also, the date of the loan repayment (according to the NY Post) was January 17, 2019. Biden was a private citizen at the time.

You really should consider "news" reporting from sources beyond your Holy Trinity.

Question: Do you still believe that the laptop is Russian disinformation? To my knowledge, you still do.

  35. by Ponderer on December 7, 2023 7:55 am

There is absolutely no way to determine what the laptop is at this point. It could be anything. Anyone could have put anything they wanted to on it by now. It's essentially worthless as evidence of anything at this point.

  36. by Curt_Anderson on December 7, 2023 9:30 am
    HtS,
No legitimate news source, and certainly no news outlet that I have ever cited, reported that “Hunter Biden’s laptop” was Russian disinformation. Legitimate news sources could not establish the provenance of “Hunter Biden‘s laptop“, which I understand is not actually a laptop, but a copy of Hunter Biden’s supposed hard drive. Reliable only report that which they can confirm. That Rudy Giuliani was involved and attempting to peddle it to the news media, responsible reporters were justifiably skeptical. Especially a week or two before the election.

  37. by HatetheSwamp on December 7, 2023 9:41 am

Hunter Biden story is Russian disinformation, dozens of former intel officials say.

    You amaze me!

    You're a credulous fool.

In my first click I found this 3 YEAR OLD STORY:
    politico.com

  38. by Curt_Anderson on December 7, 2023 10:11 am
    HtS,
Right. Politico did not report the laptop was or wasn’t Russian disinformation. They reported this:
More than 50 former senior intelligence officials have signed on to a letter outlining their belief that the recent disclosure of emails allegedly belonging to Joe Biden’s son “has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.”

Journalists also report what Trump believes and says. Reporting that what Trump says isn’t a confirmation.

  39. by HatetheSwamp on December 7, 2023 10:23 am

    Curt,

What is your own opinion, three plus years after the story broke, and "more than 50 former senior intelligence officials signed on to a letter outlining their belief that the disclosure of emails allegedly belonging to Hunter Biden, “has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.”

Is the laptop a Russian plant?

  40. by Curt_Anderson on December 7, 2023 10:42 am
CBS News reported that at least some of the emails were authenticated by forensic analysis. My opinion is that it probably wasn’t Russian disinformation. I also suspect that given the myriad of opportunities for the data to be manipulated while at and after it left the computer repair shop that it is no longer admissible evidence in any courtroom.

To quote several of our progressive sanctimones over the years, NOW WE'RE GETTING SOMEWHERE! (Gee. That wasn't as much fun for me as it seems to be for a holier-than-thou progressive.)

I think that the laptop has served as a Rosetta Stone. It led to Tony Bobulinski who had the same documents and emails on his computer EXACTLY. And, Rob Walker. Ditto. Et.al.. Ditto. It's how the HouseGOPs have accumulated to large a mountain of evidence and learned, for example, about all of Joe's phony email accounts.

Clearly, the laptop is real because scads upon scads of the data in it has been verified because nearly all of it can easily be indisputably confirmed... except, probably the nude, stripper-effin, coke-smoking ones, which don't matter to the Former Trucker.

So, those more than 50 intelligence experts: Did they lie, or are they fools? In your opinion.

  43. by Curt_Anderson on December 7, 2023 11:19 am
The former intelligence officials [who were grilled by congressional Republicans]stressed that their letter stated that they had no evidence of a Russian disinformation campaign, and that they were merely stating an opinion.

Several said they did not regret their actions.

“The Congress is wasting its time and our money by investigating the First Amendment rights of private citizens,” Mark Zaid, a lawyer who represents seven signers of the letter, said in an interview.

The former intelligence officials [who were grilled by congressional Republicans stressed that their letter stated that they had no evidence of a Russian disinformation campaign, and that they were merely stating an opinion.
The letter was an indictment of trumpster by the IC (mostly state department). It was done to cement the case that trumpster was in collusion with the Russians and the dossier was true. This was done to cover their asses because if the world found out it was false (which happened anyway) the entire IC would be tried and convicted in the court of public opinion. Which is also true (well, by half of the US, the other half are sheeple and told what to do.

What you read was as true as the dossier. They were only covering their asses because their careers were on the line. It's like someone gets shot and the shooter looks over and says, "just kidding."

  46. by Curt_Anderson on December 7, 2023 2:48 pm
    OldeDude,
You are conflating two different things. That members of the intelligence community were skeptical about the source of "Hunter Biden's Laptop" had nothing to do with the Steel Dossier nor did their skepticism implicate Trump.

  47. by oldedude on December 7, 2023 8:15 pm
But it did. They buried the laptop story after using their folks to dissect it. They knew what was on it, and if it wasn't for the computer guy who made a copy of it (I'm a little shocked he isn't dead at this point) and told on them, we would never know what was on it. Kinda like cliton wiping her drives and using a ball peen hammer to destroy evidence.
