Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R) said on Sunday that he's getting ready to sue social media companies for their sites' "harms" toward young children in his state.

In an appearance on CBS's Face The Nation, Cox told moderator Margaret Brennan that he and other state officials are looking at all social media companies. He added that in the coming months, the state will file lawsuits against those platforms to hold them accountable for their actions.

"We believe they've known about- about the dangers, some of this has been leaked out, Meta and others, very clear evidence that they knew the harms that their products were causing to kids, and that they intentionally tried to hide that information," Cox told Brennan.

So you're saying there aren't laws that should protect children? These laws (if they exist) are separate from the first amendment.

I'm assuming you support the sexual abuse of children. Okay, SCOTUS and about 95% of the US disagrees with you. If you're trying to make a point, my guess is that it's the wrong one. It only makes you look like a pedophile. Accurate or not.

  2. by oldedude on July 9, 2023 8:40 pm
And this would include big pharma (your butties you worked for) are not liable if they know something is dangerous and keep producing it anyway. Kind of like the train derailment that you supported. You know, the one that will affect multi generations? that one? Again, you disregard any life but your own. IF you're different, you coulda fooled me. You've proven time and time again you don't give a flying f* about any other human being in many, if not every instance.

Apparently any laws that protect children were not relevant to the situation. The governor isn't charging them with breaking the law, he's suing them, OD.

The governor is doing more than simply "urging, encouraging, pressuring, [and] inducing" social media to eliminate some speech, he's suing social media to curtail their speech and address. In other words, he is using the full force of the government of Utah to stifle free speech. That is the sort of censorship that you and Judge Doughty pretend to oppose.

Don't deny that you'd be up in arms if Dr. Fauci or the CDC sued social media companies to reduce misinformation about COVID.

Has anyone else noticed OD seems to have a real fascination (some might even say obsession) with child sexual abuse? 🤔

pb'll let OD speak for himself but my guess if Big Brother sued over Covid misinformation, Big Brother'd lose. Fauci purveyed oodles of lies about Covid. He's the one who should be held accountable for the lies. But, Rachel ain't reporting that. Eh?

  6. by oldedude on July 10, 2023 5:00 am
It's not fascination, it's disgust at the results of what you and your butties do to children as they grow up. You just abuse them, use them as blow up dolls and throw them away. Maybe that's the link to childhood?

That last was for miami lostboy.

Curt- first, we know that most of po's white mass murderers have had a fixation with social media that is actually programmed for tweens and teens. The good thing about that is that we can actually look at their lives for court. The bad thing is that it goes unchecked after the programming works. That's the biggest issue here.

So instead of infringing on the second amendment, this is one way to stop school killings and the mass murders.

As far as COVID. Fauci has financial ties to Wuhan labs to start with. He has also made a lot of money on lying about COVID (especially as the highest paid civil "servant" in the US). I think he ought to be looked in to for kickbacks, graft, and corruption.

I do agree with Lead. If he were looked into, he would lose. The integrity of the CDC is completely shot after this. WHO is a CCP-run organization that paid the rest of the world to be their b**tch. Only a couple of countries (that we didn't listen to) made their own decisions and fared better than others that listened to WHO. I'm not as bitter about COVID as many. I just consider it another day against the swamp. It does bother me though, that many leftists still consider information proven to be wrong as still the gospel.

    OD,
Just as I thought. You really don’t have any objections to the government telling social media what to say and what not to say.

You are not against censorship. You don’t like it if government merely requests social media to reduce speech favored by conservative. Then you are as mad as a wet chicken.

You have no problem if government harasses social media with lawsuits if it’s pertaining to free speech that you don’t approve of.

You've completely taken this out of context. There are laws regarding children and crime. There are laws regarding searching for sex of a juvenile by adults.

If you want to play your "game," I also believe there should be censorship of snuff films. And kiddie porn. And active threats against people's lives. This is all illegal activity, but you only can look through the single lens of violation of first amendment and see them only as censorship. I also don't believe it's right to pull a fire alarm in a crowded theater, or scream "FIRE!" That to you, in your shallow mind is censorship.

The legal definition: The term censorship refers to the suppression, banning, or deletion of speech, writing, or images that are considered to be indecent, obscene, or otherwise objectionable.
Censorship becomes a civil rights issue when a government or other entity with authority, suppresses ideas, or the expression of ideas, information, and self. In the U.S., censorship has been debated for decades, as some seek to protect the public from offensive materials, and others seek to protect the public’s rights to free speech and expression.

People who talk about it the most and pretend like they are "disgusted" by it are always the ones who eventually get busted for it. I know you like to thing everything is about you - but you're ruining people's lives to get your sick rocks off, OD.

"You've completely taken this out of context. There are laws regarding children and crime. There are laws regarding searching for sex of a juvenile by adults." —-OD

OD, if what social media doing was illegal, then the governor would invoke the relevant law. Instead the governor is harassing social media with lawsuits. That's a lot more heavy-handed than the "urging" and "encouraging" that Judge Doughty and you claim is censorship.

  14. by oldedude on July 10, 2023 1:57 pm
OD, if what social media doing was illegal, then the governor would invoke the relevant law.

That would be true IF the state had laws at their level, which most (if any) don't have. This is an auspice of the FCC and FTC for oversight.

There is also something called willful negligence, which you haven't mentioned. You don't have to break a law for that. It's something that is dangerous, the company knows about it and does nothing. In this case, the state my be trying to prove the company actually targets this group in order to get more followers (ergo money) and doesn't care about the results. Round Up, agent orange, burn pits, the water in Flint, MI, possibly the train wreck, etc.

  15. by Indy! on July 10, 2023 3:28 pm

Most (if not all) social media companies have rules concerning harassment of all types and they enforce them to enough degree to satisfy whatever laws apply. So the governor will simply have his... ahem... "case" thrown out of court. That's what wingnuts get for living in alternate realities where they believe only Fox commentators can make law.

"Curt- first, we know that most of po's white mass murderers have had a fixation with social media" --OD

Here's the thing, most people younger than my age demographic have a fixation with social media. Especially teens and the twenty-somethings. Most mass shooters are young and on social media. Most young people on social media are NOT mass shooters.

One thing that makes 18 to 29 year-old mass shooters different from most of their peers is that they own (27%) or have access (16%) to a gun. Of course the younger mass shooters should not have access to guns at all.

  17. by oldedude on July 10, 2023 5:42 pm
It's what's in the sites they're looking at. And the shooters also have a history of psychological disorders. Ergo, THOSE people should not have guns. Federal Appeals Courts disagrees with you on gun ownership under the age of 21. The theory being that if you're old enough to actually have a "real" AR, you can buy an AR-lite as a civilian. The same checks apply.

Like I've said many times, I have a problem with red flag laws only because of the presumption of guilt, and no requirement to provide a defense or know you have charges against you before your rights are taken. In most of the mass shootings (by the whitefolk) there are tells that many people see, but don't report. The Parkland shooter had been passed around in the district, but never reported (as was part of the obomber administration to "keep kids under the police radar"). Cruz was known to have issues of hatred and instability to the school(s), family, and friends. Yet nothing was done.

Outlaw guns. Boom - problem solved.

  19. by HatetheSwamp on July 11, 2023 10:42 am

    Repeal the Second Amendment, eh?

  20. by Indy! on July 11, 2023 11:05 am

Easily the least important Amendment in the Constitution.

  21. by oldedude on July 16, 2023 4:52 am
He's not talking about repeal, he's talking about just disregarding the constitution and the bill of rights. There's a big difference. That means big brother can do anything they want. Much like Maduro did, or Putin, or Mao, etc. So he's pretty much an anarchist. One of those belibers that actually if there wasn't a government, everyone would just get along. I've seen this most in about early high school and then it goes away the first time they're victims of crime.
