Gang,

This is a Swamp, not a Dem/GOP issue.

Curt, especially, has always chosen to Good German this stuff as a faithful Dem. Indy's! back and if he watches the video, I'm guessing that he's not going to see politics. He'll see a picture of rather typical Swamp corruption. We'll see.

But, my fellow SSers, I have little trouble believing any of this because it suggests the sort of shenanigans that DC crooks engage in...on both sides.

Joe Biden is corrupt. He's being caught for two reasons. One. Hunter is a world-class brainless drug addled moron who exposed Joe's dirty dealings. Two. Joe's brain is shot. He remembers driving a truck. Not his real past.

The denizens of the Swamp don't like it when one of their own is sloppy. They'll feign self-righteousness. My guess is that Merrick Garland will be impeached. This whistle-blower is calling him an, as po'd say, EFFIN liar...under oath...before Congress. And, apparently, documents bust Garland.

Joe? I'm 50/50. He'll be impeached.

Hunter Biden was charged with tax crimes. He plead guilty. He paid the taxes he owed. Hunter's wrongdoings, whatever they may be, don't have a credible connection to his father.

IRS agents are probably similar to cops. They expect to have every person they arrest thrown into prison. Prosecutors are more circumspect. Whether Hunter Biden got off easy or was treated harshly is in the eye of the beholder:

Two former IRS lawyers said Biden’s deal is not an outlier and is similar to what ordinary taxpayers could expect if investigated for similar conduct. Two other former tax officials told POLITICO that Biden could have faced stiffer charges.

Trump-Appointed Prosecutor Pushes Back on Republicans' Hunter Biden Claims
First, [David] Weiss addressed allegations that the DOJ has retaliated against Internal Revenue Services (IRS) whistleblower Gary Shapley, who has alleged that his investigative team was removed from the Hunter Biden probe after he made whistleblower disclosures to Congress, according to Fox News. He has also accused the DOJ of providing Hunter preferential treatment and slow-walking the investigation.

"First, the Department of Justice did not retaliate against 'an Internal Revenue Service("IRS") Criminal Supervisory Special Agent and whistleblower, as well as his entire investigative team... for making protected disclosures to Congress,'" Weiss wrote.

He also disputed testimony from Shapley, who previously told the House Ways & Means Committee that U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland was not telling the truth when he said Weiss had the authority to file charges against Hunter outside of his jurisdiction in Delaware.

I'd put the chances of Biden being impeached at 5%. His chances of being convicted at zero.

Watched the entire interview. He seemed credible. While I suspect that Joe Biden wasn't sitting next to Hunter during that call, it does sound like people in high places, which may have included Joe, were pulling strings to protect Hunter and Joe by extension.

All the more reason that Joe should be challenged for the Dem nomination.

Wow. There's something you don't see... common sense from Donna. 😳 Although I would say what should really happen is Joe should step aside as he suggested he might do in 2020 when the broader left (Ds along the real left) gift wrapped the White House for him. This election is actually the perfect time to do it because Trump is having legal problems and DeSantis (as I assumed the whole time) is not as popular nationwide as he is in the northern parts of Florida. We could have a nice open election preferably with some good YOUNG candidates with NEW IDEAS all around (read: No Trump, Kamala, Pete Buttiggieg...).

I hear a lot of suggestions as to who should NOT be running for president. Does anybody have any suggestions of viable candidates on the Democratic side?

  5. by Donna on July 5, 2023 3:30 am

Actually I think I would be a good candidate for president, but I'm not interested, and therein lies the problem: those who would be good candidates aren't interested in running for president.

I agree with Indy that Buttigieg would be a disaster. The Dems need a candidate who speaks openly and honestly, who average Americans can relate to, and who isn't as old as dirt. I'm not seeing anyone like that.

    Curt,

I'm holding on to a brief video of a Fox Business interview of Byron Donalds and deep purple GOP South Carolina HouseGop Nancy Mace.

Your profound Dem Good German-ism instinct notwithstanding, here's your problem...well, "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap's" problem: The SwampDems and the NYT and the HuffPo and all your Trump-hatin fact-checkers and Rachel and Joy and Anderson have nuthin to do with this.

If the GOP majority in the House wants to impeach the Doddering Old Fart, the Flatulent Fool's gunna be impeached.

Byron Donalds is a GOP rising star with a bullet. Other HouseGOPs follow his leadership already. Nancy Mace is a strong anti-MAGA GOP. As far as I can tell, Donalds is just waiting around for all the formalities. And, Mace is simply waiting to "connect the dots." Even they will vote to impeach.

My 50/50 odds on Clouseau's impeachment seem conservative to me. Your 5%. That's dreamland.

I can see a path to the Senate Dems convicting the Former Trucker...probably resulting in a Nixon-like resignation.

My 50/50 thing deals with the House. I'm being generous.

  7. by Curt_Anderson on July 5, 2023 8:55 am
Well, I heard that there is a smear campaign being run against Byron Donalds. Somebody is telling his Republican constituents that Mr. Donald is Black.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on July 5, 2023 9:07 am

Actually, and this is bad for "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap..."

...it's more like, "one of my friends is that darkie from Florida."

    Token, y'know. Baha baha baha!

  9. by Indy! on July 5, 2023 3:21 pm

You nailed the problem, Donna - there IS "no one like that" in the Democratic party. Even the ones who looked (a little) promising early on - AOC and a couple other new CONgresspeople - sold out as soon as they got in office. And I agree with the other part too - anyone who is young, smart and would make a good president doesn't want the job (and I don't blame them). They could elect me and I'd just go in and blow the whole thing up - expose everybody and everything and get thrown out in a couple years - but I still like to smoke pot once in awhile, haven't been inside a church in years and don't need their bribes (although I would take them anyway) so I'd never get elected. 😕
