Another day without joy in MAGAville

(Yahoo News)Durham clearly stated he doesn’t doubt the validity of evidence showing Russia was trying to help Trump—something many Republicans have vehemently denied.

“I don’t think there’s any question that Russians intruded into—hacked into the systems, they released information,” Durham said.

“And that was helpful to the Trump campaign, right?” Schiff asked.

After trying to deflect the question, Durham agreed the Russians had been helpful to the Trump campaign.

“And Trump made use of that, as I said, didn’t he, by touting those stolen documents on the campaign trail over a hundred times,” Schiff said.

Durham said he didn’t “really read the newspapers, or listen to the news.”

“So I don’t know that,” he said.

“Were you totally oblivious to Donald Trump’s use of the stolen emails on the campaign trail more than a hundred times?” Schiff asked. “Did that escape your attention?”

Durham responded that he wasn’t aware of that.

The classic Curt Reponse™ would be... "What laws were broken?"

    Indy,
You didn't know it was a crime?!

(Politico)The head of the Federal Election Commission released a statement on Thursday evening reiterating, emphatically, that foreign assistance is illegal in U.S. elections.

“Let me make something 100% clear to the American public and anyone running for public office: It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election,“ wrote Ellen Weintraub, chairwoman of the FEC. “This is not a novel concept.“

She also sent the statement via Twitter with the introductory line: “I would not have thought that I needed to say this.“

Weintraub‘s statement comes after President Donald Trump told ABC News that he would probably hear out opposition information offered by a foreign national if given the chance in 2020. He also said he might not tell the FBI about it, even though bureau Director Christopher Wray said such assistance would need to be reported.

It appears that Trump's campaign would and did hear out opposition information offered by a foreign national:

Do you (or Schiff... snicker) have any proof that Trump met with or sought out help from Russia? Because that is the key to the law - not a Trump gadfly/attention whore like Roger Stone talking to somebody who lives in Little Russia, NY. If memory serves this was all covered in the Mueller "investigation" and absolutely no prosecutable crimes were uncovered after years of hearings and taxpayer time wasted. Now Schiff - the guy who claimed he had "proof" Trump worked with Russia and then never presented anything of the sort when this was an actual issue... as opposed to just more political preening by Schiff who's hoping to get elected to Dianne Feinstein's (possibly) empty Senate seat - is bringing it up again? 😂

Mueller couldn't prove "criminal conspiracy". In order to prove that, he would have had to show evidence that Trump made an agreement with Putin, which is a high bar to prove because those who engage in criminal conspiracy would probably be careful not to leave evidence like that.

What Mueller did find was ten instances of Trump obstructing justice. He didn't charge Trump with that or anything, though, because of the DOJ rule that you can't indict a sitting president.

Fourteen indictments against foreign nationals (Russian and Ukrainian) did come out of the Mueller investigation, though.

Indy challenged me, ""What laws were broken?"

It is evident to me from the public reporting that Trump's underlings who worked on his campaign broke law by soliciting, accepting and receiving campaign dirt from the Russians. Donald Trump has "plausible deniability" since he didn't meet personally with the Russians. "Plausible" that is to the MAGA crowd and people like Indy.

I also remember plaintive posts from Indy whenever it was suggested that Russia helped Trump. He seemed genuinely offended by the suggestion. Indy used to wail "Russia, Russia, Russia" whenever it came up.

Even if were true that nobody from the Trump campaign met with Russians, there is no denying that Russia helped Trump with their stolen email dumps, the army of Russian trolls, the Russian ad buys on Facebook, etc.

So what you two are saying is it looks like Trump hasn't actually broken any laws and even if he did the Ds charged with charging Trump (pun intended) aren't competent enough to hang those crimes on him anyway? Is that about right? Or am I missing something here? 🤔

  7. by Donna on June 21, 2023 4:52 pm

Regarding that, all I said was that Mueller didn't find evidence of criminal conspiracy.

It was tough to hang any crimes on Trump while he was president and the attorneys general were running interference for him. Not to mention there was that obstacle of presidential immunity.

However, since he lost the election, and he's committed new crimes, the Democrats have pretty good at investigating, indicting and charging Trump. He's been indicted for violations of the Espionage Act, obstruction of justice, mishandling classified documents, bank and tax fraud, and is likely to charged with election interference related crimes in Georgia and in DC.

That's exactly what Trump got impeached for the first time. You can't do that. It's illegal. Trump just couldn't giveashit.

I'm sure it was obvious ^^^that^^^ was me.

  14. by Indy! on June 21, 2023 8:01 pm

Whichever one of you who is posting... I'm sure you realize to impeach a president is basically the same as indicting them. They are charged with the crime - it is then up to the accusers to convince Congress they need to be removed from office. If they aren't removed from office, it's basically the same as being found innocent. Trump was impeached twice (if memory serves) and not removed from office either time. So either he was innocent, his... ahem... "crimes" weren't all that impressive, the Ds are the most incompetent party ever or the Ds were complicit and never had any intention of removing him from office in the first place and they were just using the impeachment process to farm for votes like they did with the $2000 $1400 checks and Roe. Take your time, take your pick and then get back to me. 🙂

  15. by Donna on June 22, 2023 7:36 am

O.J. was truly innocent too. I mean look at how the jury ruled in the criminal case. That says it all.

  16. by Ponderer on June 22, 2023 8:03 am

"So either he was innocent, his... ahem... "crimes" weren't all that impressive," -Indy!

The GOP was in the majority. Trump could have been filmed by live news cameras shooting someone point-blank in the head on Fifth Avenue, and congressional Republicans would have let him off scot-free and laughed about it the whole time. It wouldn't mean that he didn't do it.

He committed impeachable offenses. Actual felonies. And to this day the MAGA Republican party is doing everything in its power to keep letting him get away with whatever crimes he has ever committed.

But yeah. I suppose that if the Democrats had only been more "competent", they would have been able to get enough MAGA Republicans to vote against their Golden Leader to impeach him.

    🙄

Well, Donna and I mighta got nothing out of it besides cheaper medicine.

But at least you got to have this baseless feeling of superiority and hind-sight omniscience...!

  20. by Indy! on June 22, 2023 8:41 pm
The "cheaper medicine" only applies to very limited amount of drugs. Like all of Biden's "reforms" - it's more talk than action. The only drugs that one affects are the ones that were probably going to lower their prices anyway because no one could afford them. And how is the price "lowered"? The cost is passed on to taxpayers just like with Obamacare. We're headed for medicare for all in reality - it's just going to take 100 years to get there and when we do it's going to cost 50X what it would cost if we just did it now the right way.
