Trump's lawyers must be wondering if whatever they are being paid is worth it. Trump just gave prosecutor Jack Smith more ammunition. Trump has variously and falsely claimed that:
1. he previously declassified the documents.
2. he was too busy to sort through the boxes and separate the classified documents from his stuff including his golf shirts and pants. '
3. the Presidential Records Act gave him permission to take the government records with him when he left office.
4. other presidents have done the same thing.

If #1 or #3 were true, then #2 is a moot point.

BAIER: Why not just hand them over then?

TRUMP: Because I had boxes, I want to go through the boxes and get all my personal things out. I don’t want to hand that over to NARA yet, and I was very busy as you’ve sort of seen.

BAIER: Yeah, but according to the indictment, you then tell this aide to move to other locations after telling your lawyers to say you’d fully complied with the subpoena when you hadn’t.

TRUMP: Before I send boxes over I have to take all of my things out. These boxes were interspersed with all sorts of things.

    Curt,

How's that a more serious crime than having staff members destroy classified documents?

Of course Trump is despicable. But, he's open about what he did. What you, and other progressive SwampLovers here have never justified, is Trump being treated differently than others who held on to classified documents.

From the beginning, we have never defended Trump, only the Biden administration's Banana Republic.

The real serious crime is the mishandling of classified information, not the mishandling of the documents, per se.

Think of foreign spies or American traitors. They might just take pictures or otherwise copy classified documents. The documents themselves are safe, but the information is imparted back to Moscow or wherever. Trump was apparently sloppy and reckless in how he handled classified documents and the information they contained.

We don’t know who of the thousands of people who were in and out of Mar-a-Lago might have seen and copied information on the documents that Trump had strewn about. Do we assume that nobody looked inside the boxes in the bathrooms or on the ballroom stage? Or do we act as if the wrong people had seen the information and take steps to protect our intelligence sources?

And, Hillary's gang didn't mishandle classified information!!!??? C'mon man. Gimme a break!

I love how you always say that in the same post where you are flat-out defending him.

    👍

The inequitable comparison of what Hillary did to what Trump did is a glaring example of Republicans' innate inability to make anything vaguely resembling equitable comparisons.

It's like comparing shoplifting a t-shirt to the Watergate break-in.
