This biggest issue between us is "recently" is a relative term. My view is that historically, it was recently. They were in our lifetime, so even in the short history of our nation, it's recently. It's a problem with a relative term.
I remember seeing pictures of blacks hung in trees during the 60's, and pictures in the magazines of crosses burning, and a couple of crosses burning in front of houses. My parents actually talked about it and racism (on my level at the time). It left quite an impression on me obviously. That's one of the reasons, MLKs "I have a dream" speech made such an impact on me, and his march in Selma. With all the other violence (especially later), I really saw MLKjr as someone that was different.
So I just looked at it though a historical lens.
