Washington(CNN) Alabama Republican Gov. Kay Ivey on Thursday called out "the unvaccinated folks" for the rise in Covid-19 cases in her state, a remarkable plea at a time when many GOP leaders are refusing to urge people to get vaccinated even as Covid-19 cases surge in many parts of the country.

"Folks are supposed to have common sense. But it's time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks. It's the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down," Ivey told reporters in Birmingham.

Kay Ivey challenger Stacy George says governor should not ‘belittle’ unvaccinated people
“I am one of those non-vaccinated people that Governor Ivey just scolded,” George said in a statement. “Unlike Governor Ivey I respect everyone who gets the vaccine as well as those like me that choose not to get the vaccine for various reasons. A governor should never belittle the people that disagree with her.”

The saddest part is..."It doesn't have to be this way"...

"Over the past week, Florida accounted for nearly a quarter of all cases in the United States -- more than any other state.
Florida, with 67 counties, reported an average of 10,452 new cases each day over the past week -- more than triple the daily average from two weeks ago, according to data from Johns Hopkins University."---

It is indeed sad, there was absolutely no need for this. We have the means and the knowledge to stop this ongoing nightmare !!

From moment President Trump restricted travel from China and was accused of being a racist, COVID-19 has been politicized. As Operation Warp Speed was about to produce the first vaccines, Clouseau and Kammy both raised doubts about them. There was no need for the vaccines to become a political hot potato.

There is no reason for COVID to have been politicized but it was, and from the beginning. HOw do you unflush the potty!!!!!?

Curt, I think we’re going to see, and are already seeing more and more Republicans politicians, governors, etc. having to acknowledge that their steadfast loyalty to Trump and his positions on this virus is untenable and will hurt them, and they are going to have to do an awful lot of back peddling if they want to have any hope of staying in office now that they can’t deny that the virus has become the virus of the unvaccinated.

    isle,

Trump fought the virus from the beginning. He fast tracked the vaccines.

Apart from propaganda you get from Rachel and the HuffPo, what are GOPs saddled with?

HOw do you unflush the potty!!!!!? --HtS

Why would anybody want to unflush the potty?!

    Islander,
I agree politicians who align themselves with the loser of the last election are making a bad bet. I don't know why they do. Trump is clearly only interested in himself and has no interest in any of the obsequious candidates who pledged allegiance to Trump.

    Curt and isle,

For posterity, I'm pretty sure Clouseau is the 020 loser.

Like I said, they are now finally beginning to realize it and are forced to acknowledge it.

    Let the back peddling begin:

“For months now, many conservative lawmakers and pundits have been stoking vaccine hesitancy, refusing to take the shots themselves or downplaying the severity of the virus. Republican governors have signed bills protecting the unvaccinated from having to disclose their status and tried to roll back mask mandates. And on social media, disinformation has run rampant, leading President Joe Biden to claim platforms like Facebook were “killing people” — a claim he later walked back.

Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise, the House Republican whip, distributed pictures of himself receiving his first dose of the vaccine last weekend after months of holding out. And in Florida, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has been selling campaign merchandise mocking masks and medical experts, this week pointed to data showing the vast majority of hospitalized COVID-19 patients are unvaccinated.

“These vaccines are saving lives,” he said.”

There's a lot of political capital in advocating individual liberty...

    ...not with you, of course.

  11. by Curt Anderson on July 27, 2021 10:44 am
    HtS,
People have the personal liberty not to be vaccinated. But the unvaccinated are imposing upon the liberty and health of others by spreading a highly contagious viral infection.

If a person wants to remain unvaccinated, fine. But they should stay in their hovel, trailer or other abode and away from the public.

Sorta like the Nazis confined those damned Jews to their ghettos.

As I said, advocating for individual liberty doesn't achieve political good will with you.

Exactly! The ‘personal freedom violation” just doesn’t cut it as justification for a person not getting vaccinated and then going out into the public. They have the freedom to choose not to get vaccinated, but simply being able to do something like not getting vaccinated doesn’t justify doing something that is harmful to others.

"Most" people support and understand why we have laws against public drunkenness and drunk driving. Nobody is taking away anyone’s choice to get drunk by not allowing them to drive if they are drunk.
