There's a difference between knowing what a person does, where they work and who they work with versus having an intimate knowledge of their business dealings.

(CBS News, October 27, 2019) [Norah] O'Donnell asked the former Delaware senator about Hunter's claim that the only thing his father said to him about the job was, "I hope you know what you're doing."

"What I meant by that is I hope you've thought this through," Biden said. "I hope you know exactly what you're doing here. That's all I meant. Nothing more than that because I've never discussed my business or their business, my sons' or daughter's. And I've never discussed them because they know where I have to do my job and that's it and they have to make their own judgments."

A lot on the right is made of the fact that Hunter Biden got an apparently lucrative position on the Burisma board despite having never worked in the energy sector.

News flash: many people get jobs in sectors in which they have no personal experience. I didn't have any relevant machine tool manufacturing experience when I was named marketing director of a machine tool manufacturer.

Henry Kissinger was on Revlon's board of directors. He is not known for his knowledge of cosmetics.

It happens that Hunter Biden had experience being on a board of directors. He was appointed to a five-year term on the board of directors of Amtrak by President George W. Bush in 2006.

    Curt,

Fox has been running a loop of numerous times in 019 "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" denied speaking to Hunter and Jimbo about their business dealings.

You watch Fox wall to wall. You know this.

    Bahahahahahahahahahaha.

    HtS,
"Business dealings", yes. Even if Biden met all the people who worked with Hunter that doesn't mean Joe knew anything about his son's business deals.

There is a reason this story is primarily confined to Rupert Murdoch owned news outlets and the rightwing echo chamber. It doesn't stand up to scrutiny or logic.

Why in the world would Joe Biden have wanted to talk to Hunter about his business?

Biden spent 50 years in Washington. He retired with less money than anybody in the Senate. He was never motivated by greed. He was motivated by wanting to someday be president.

He also knew his son was a screw-up. Drugs, hookers, crack-pipes, guns, depression, trouble. When a father says, "I hope you know what you're doing," he's really saying, "You clearly have no idea what you're doing."

Biden was a 30+ year senator, an eight-year vice president, he had a glide path to the 2020 nomination. You don't spend that much time in Washington unless you have good survival instincts. You know how to avoid trouble. Why the hell would he have wanted to get involved with his son's business?

You know what they found on Hunter's laptop? Texts from father to son, encouraging him to get clean, to stay in rehab. Joe Biden didn't give a crap about Hunter's business. He just didn't want another son to die.

That's why you're wasting your time focusing on Hunter. I realized jaundice-eyed MAGA cult members are never going to look at this objectively. But when most people look at the Bidens, they see a father worried about his screw-up kid. Most people can relate to having a family member go off the rails with addiction.

"Business dealings", yes. Even if Biden met all the people who worked with Hunter that doesn't mean Joe knew anything about his son's business deals.

The logical argument to that is that the business deals are a subset of business dealings. Dealings are much more encompassing. Dealings are more inclusive of who you're dealing with, maybe their families, political ramifications (meaning law, the political minefields, who's voting for what, which politicians support you,* etc), the deals per se, how work life is going on in general, if you're making money, losing money, business is good, business isn't good, etc.

    * politics are included in every business, so I'm not picking on anyone. A small business in a small town does the same thing, as does a Bodega or tienda in NYC, LA, or el Paso.

BIDEN: "My grandpop...died in the same hospital I was born in two weeks before I was born"

Except Biden's "grandpop" died in Baltimore, MD, in September 1941 — and Biden wasn't born until November 1942 in Scranton, PA.

The man is a demented, pathological liar.

Tell the RNC opposition research team to give Biden a break. He was only two weeks old at the time He easily may have mistaken another old man for his grandfather. Or was he misinformed about family lore?

And this matters more than Trump's false claim family history of himself as a self-made billionaire who started with "just a $1 million loan" from his father, why?
