    That's because he's an ass.

    Good for Nancy.

  2. by HatetheSwamp on July 21, 2021 11:14 am
Could you explain how being an ass, in your opinion,...should restrict a duly elected member of the House of Representatives, selected by his party, from serving on the Commission.

Don't you want the findings of the Commission to be accepted?

At this point, I suspect that it's now a done deal that any legitimate findings lof the Commission will be lost to the shenanigans that took place in creating the Commission.

  3. by Donna on July 21, 2021 11:23 am
Nancy Pelosi has that power by virtue of the Democrats holding a majority in the House. I'm guessing that Republicans did the same when they held a majority.

  4. by HatetheSwamp on July 21, 2021 11:32 am
She has that authority, no doubt.

Yet, the day will come when the Commission will complete its work. At this point, it's a certainty that it will be highly critical of Trump and GOPs across the country. It's also inescapable that its findings will be tainted.

Doesn't anyone in this country have the ability to think long term except pb!!!!!?

    Donna,
As you recall, the Republicans led by McCarthy did everything in their power to NOT investigate the January 6th attack on the Capitol. Here is a conversation we had in the old forum on May 29, 2021.

Not voting for the Jan 6th commission is indefensible. --Donna

It is worse than a crime, it is a blunder . C'est pire qu'un crime, c'est une faute. Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord

The Republicans who voted down the January 6th independent commission are implicating themselves as accomplices after the fact. That's in addition to the Republicans who were involved before and during the insurrection.

Most people, whether they admit it or not, realize there was a criminal attack on Congress and the electoral process. Voting not to investigate it won't make it go away. There will be investigations and trials regardless. I understand Nancy Pelosi will have a House committee investigation of the 1/6/2021 riots. There have been hundreds of arrests stemming from the insurrection. Some suspects will probably plead guilty and others will go to trial. There are lawsuits by Capitol police and others naming Giuliani and Trump as defendants.

So the public will be hearing and learning about the events that led up to and transpired on that ignoble day in American history. The Republicans placed themselves on the wrong side of history.

When Nancy and the Dems argued that enough facts were known about the mostly peaceful gathering on January 6 to hold an impeachment vote, I disagreed but, now that the whole impeachment saga has played out, it's time to move on. This is a have cake, eat it thing.

With this added silliness coming from Nancy, there's no chance that anything substantive will result from the Commission...

...and, the GOPs will win this at the polls next year.

  7. by Curt Anderson on July 21, 2021 12:01 pm
    HtS,
Don't you think that an attack on the US Capitol merits at least as much of a congressional investigation as an attack on the government facility in Benghazi? Come to think of it, the attack on Benghazi was mostly peaceful when you consider all the people there who didn't murder the ambassador or anyone else.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on July 21, 2021 12:27 pm
I thought that the events of January 6 deserved a full and unbiased investigation BEFORE they were turned into a political game through an impeachment vote prior to the events being investigated.

The Dems have gotten as much out of this as they are going to get. They passed the point of diminishing return...in terms of actual justice.

Now, as far as fund raising?... Trump's the best thing ever to have happened to them.

The part of me that sees this from the perspective that I despise Trump and think that he is despicable is convinced that the Dems are doing this is INSURE that Trump will run and win the GOP nomination in 024 because they think that he is the only GOP they'll have even a weak chance to beating next time around.

No, I can't. Will the GOP pitch be "the leader of our party and other Republicans were implicated but not convicted of inciting the January 6th riot"? Or maybe "the evidence was against us, we are guilty, but the proceedings were politically tainted"?

I think the message will be that the Dems' truth of January 6 is a scam and a sham and that Nancy was so afraid of the truth about the day that she prevented an honest telling of the story.

Other than hoping to keep Trump's political future alive, what can Nancy he hoping to accomplish from this stacking of the deck in creating the January 6 Commission!!!!!?

HtS, You have a minority opinion. Most American see what happened on January 6th as an insurrection and an attack on democracy and most Americans support Congressional investigation of what happened. See CBS News poll.

    A poll of Americans...ha!

I didn't notice how Americans feel about the way Ayatollah Pelosi is running the inquiry.

My sense is that the people who vote next November will be motivated to vote GOP over this...but that Dems will raise more money because their antichrist will be more prominent in the news.

All one had to do was watch the impeachment trial itself, and then listen to what Mitch McConnell said after it was finished to know that Trump was guilty and the vote by the senate was purely political. To argue otherwise is the height of insincerity.

    isle,

Tell me that you don't know that the House impeachment vote, taken before the event was investigated, was every bit as political.

What happened on January was an atrocity. And all the pols can think to do about it is to try to make political hay...

...and YOU are enabling that as much as any American.

  17. by islander on July 22, 2021 4:14 am

"Tell me that you don't know that the House impeachment vote, taken before the event was investigated, was every bit as political.

Like I said, all one has to do is watch the hearings themselves, and then listen to Mitch McConnell's straightforward admission that Trump was indeed guilty. No matter how you try to spin it you can't change any of that.

  18. by HatetheSwamp on July 22, 2021 6:25 am
I think you need to watch Mitch's video again and listen to his verbs. We went over and over this on the old forum
And, I was proved correct by events.

Still, my point has been that this has been about politics, not truth, not justice, on both sides. And, you are an enabler.

January 6th was a disgrace...but Trump did nothing impeachable.

Maybe the news didn't make it to you in Oregon, Curt. (Whispering in the manner of Joe Biden) trump was not convicted.
