Quite strange. I expected to be welcomed here this morning by all manner of effusive congratulations for those selflessly brave Tennessee Republican lawmakers from our resident MAGA Hats.

The Republican majority Tennessee House, besides providing flabbergastingly clear and undeniable evidence of the thriving existence of the heinous institutional racism in GOP governance, just spectacularly facilitated the launch of the brilliant careers of two exquisitely eloquent and dedicated young public servants of the American people onto the national stage. While at the same time helping to destroy the Republican party in '24. Not that the GOP has been needing any help in doing that.

The performance that those Republican "defenders of the Constitution" gave was a national disgrace.

    Welcome back, po.

Sorry. No MAGAs among the regular here.

My opinion is that the bonker-Dems behaved extremely inappropriately but that something akin to formal censure might be more fitting than outright expulsion.

But, I'm not following it closely. No matter what else you might say, democracy reigned throughout the whole process.

  2. by Ponderer on April 7, 2023 8:45 am

Not sure how you could follow it closely. I monitored Fox a bit yesterday and they didn't seem to want to touch it. Meanwhile, it stole the news cycle on every other actual news network.

No matter how inappropriately "bonkers" those Democrats were, the Republican response out-bonkered them by a double digit factor.

Overreach. It's the Republican party's terminal flaw. They are incapable of ever letting an opportunity to go for broke pass them by if they see a chance to overreach.

It will be the death of the party for certain.

But I guess they found, for some vague and mysterious reason, that the white Democratic member who did the same exact thing right along with the two ousted members just wasn't quite bonkers enough to be voted out.

"The GOP action, after the lawmakers had led a gun control protest from the House floor in response to last week’s Nashville school shooting, created a snapshot of how two halves of a diversifying and increasingly self-estranged nation are being pulled apart.

A day of soaring tensions inside and outside the state House chamber thrust the Volunteer State into the national spotlight in an extraordinary political coda to the mass shooting in which six people, including three 9-year-olds, were gunned down.

The drama laid bare intense frustration among some voters at the failure to pass firearms reform – and the growing clash between Democrats from liberal cities and a Republican Party that is willing to use its rural conservative power base to curtail democracy. Given the national attention, the showdown could backfire on the GOP with voters who balk at its extremist turn. And it turned two lawmakers – whom most Americans had never heard of – into overnight heroes of the progressive movement."

Let's not forget that a trans-led insurrection took place at the Capitol in the wake of the slaughter of six Christians...including three 9 year old children.

  5. by Ponderer on April 7, 2023 9:17 am

Yep, Isle. As always, the Republican party chooses to stare at and denigrate the hand that's pointing at a desperately vital issue than to deal with the vital issue.

  6. by HatetheSwamp on April 7, 2023 9:31 am

The vital issue is that six Christians were slaughtered in a world where trans people argue that to oppose the trans political agenda is to be a CHRISTIAN theocrat.

  7. by Ponderer on April 7, 2023 9:31 am

Oh and Bill, just to save you a lot of wasted typing for my benefit, any time you post any of your asinine, hallucinatory, propagandist bullshit about the LGBTQ community, I will not be responding to it. If I actually do decide to come back for a while. I can only take your disgusting hatred and deranged propaganda against my community so far.

Nothing you have ever posted about the subject is in any way attached to reality. So trying to goad me with your parroted, unchristian bigotry against my community isn't going to be receiving the dignity of a response. Even to correct you. When it comes to my community, you are a willfully ignorant bigot and I won't be taking any of your bait on the subject.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on April 7, 2023 10:17 am

...any time you post any of your asinine, hallucinatory, propagandist bullshit about the LGBTQ community...

Point of fact. All I've been doing, is follow the politics...on both sides. I've never ever wever ever never posted any of my own...bull$hit.

I've never expressed a personal opinion...and, I won't. I have no interest in debating the issue. The only thing that interests me is the political trends.

  9. by Ponderer on April 7, 2023 10:29 am

Bill, posting asinine, hallucinatory, propagandist bullshit about the LGBTQ community that you got from someone else and agree with makes it your bullshit.

Why are conservative Republicans like Hate always so desperate to separate themselves from their own thoughts and beliefs? It's like they think they can call someone a horrible name, and then avoid all responsibility for saying it because they heard that person called that by someone else?

"I didn't call you that when I called you that! It's just what I'm hearing other people elsewhere calling you."

My god the lameness that wallows in!

I'm tracking political trends. Nuthin more. A tide has turned. One that’s an inconvenient truth for you.

That's what's goin on. All that's goin on. Nuthin more.

NASHVILLE -- Tennessee Republican Speaker Cameron Sexton's comparison Friday of last week's House floor demonstration by two lawmakers over state gun laws in the wake of a deadly Nashville elementary school shooting as "at least equivalent, maybe worse" than the Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol has Democratic lawmakers furious.
    —————————————
That’s the sort of nuttiness we’ve come to expect from MAGA Republicans. The ousted representatives will probably be reappointed. They now have national stature. The GOP in Tennessee turned off more voters—again. It is political malpractice.

  14. by oldedude on April 7, 2023 10:56 am
Po- prove that he's wrong. That's all. No whining, beatching or anything else. As he said and I agree with, We'd love to hear other thoughts.

    Another piece on this front.

Colorado authorities arrested a 19-year-old former Colorado Springs student over plans to carry out multiple shootings in various schools in the area. The suspect, a trans teenager who's been identified by authorities as William Whitworth but who goes by the name "Lily," now faces attempted murder charges.

The suspect has been formally charged with two counts of criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree; criminal mischief; menacing; interference with staff, faculty, or students of educational institutions and is currently in custody. In arrest documents, the suspect is referred to as she/her.

According to authorities quoted by local media, Whitworth was a former student of the Colorado Springs school district, having attended school in the area between 2014 and 2016. Police recovered a manifesto from her home where she reportedly mentioned mass school shooters and their casualty versus injury rate, detailed a list of firearms and how to 3D print them, and which contained locations of schools in Colorado Springs District 20.

"two sheep from the state legislature",/b> -olde dude

olde dude, I wish you would watch video of what those two brave and brilliant young men had to say on that floor about why they did what they did regarding that Republican-controlled body's ongoing, sociopathic dismissal of a lethal plague that is continually and increasingly sweeping over this country that results in so many deaths every year. I watched the whole thing unfold live and I felt as if I was witness to a tremendously historical moment presented by two of the most devoted and eloquent political speakers I've heard in many years. Those two twenty seven year olds are going far in American politics. And the Republican right is gonna have their hands full hating and disparaging them (and calling them names like you do) more than they ever did the Squad.

What's really funny here is that you and Hate reflexively accept and excuse any of the inexcusably inappropriate and violence-inciting behavior many of your federal House and Senate members have ever performed over any inconsequential, asinine, hallucinatory bullshit they saw fit that day to base their disgusting behavior on... And you are belittling these two astounding representatives of the People for peacefully protesting to stop children from being murdered in their classrooms???

olde dude... You wanna talk about payback???

The payback that your party is going to receive in the next election over all the unconstitutional, undemocratic, fascistic, racist, authoritarian bullshit it has foisted on this country over the years will be quite the dramatically "total beeatch" it deserves.

But daaaaaaaamn, those Tennessee Republicans really paid back them two uppity "sheep" for using bullhorns I tell ya what.

    🙄

"at least equivalent, maybe worse" than the Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol

Well Curt, we are all quite well aware of conservative Republicans' absolute and total inability to even understand the concept of an equitable comparison. It has been proven and documented too many times to count.

  17. by Ponderer on April 7, 2023 11:26 am

By the way, the proper term for what that Republican body did to those two black representatives is a "political lynching".

    .

  18. by HatetheSwamp on April 7, 2023 11:37 am

    po,

You are all about drama. You have been rightly accused of being the first person here who'd join a lynch mob.

I said at the beginning that I think censure might have been a better discipline for the inappropriate behavior but if ever there's been a time when democracy functioned in America that this is it. Majority rule.

Tennessee Republicans Show Exactly How To Respond To Left-Wing Hostage-Taking

Jones, Johnson, and Pearson are not victims. They instigated an insurrection at the Tennessee State Capitol and have been justifiably punished for their bad behavior. The real victims are the six Christians who were murdered by a transgender shooter, whose deaths are now being used by Democrats for political gain.

Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to travel to Tennessee to visit with Jones, Johnson, and Pearson, but not the families of the six slain Christians. Harris plans to further discuss restrictions on Americans’ Second Amendment rights but not the mental health crisis instigating the barbaric actions of the transgender shooter, whose gender dysphoria leftists have falsely labeled normal and brave.

Democrats haven’t just exploited the Christian victims, they’ve disrespected their memories by claiming the transgender murderer is a fellow “victim” of the shooting. Last week, the Tennessee insurrectionists held up seven fingers for the supposed “seven victims” in the shooting, referring to the killer as “victim.”

  24. by Ponderer on April 7, 2023 3:15 pm

Republicans are so disgustingly yet boringly predictable.

At least one of the victim's mothers was there at the state house protesting with the House members who were booted out. Republicans seemed more intent on silencing her than comforting her. One of the GOP House members there referred to the protest she participated in as a "temper tantrum".

So don't give me your bullshit whining about any Democrat not dropping whatever they are doing to visit every mass shooting victim's family.

(As if Republicans ever do it for fukk sake.)

  25. by HatetheSwamp on April 7, 2023 3:17 pm

    You're welcome Ponderer! 👍

I no longer have any illusions of having any kind of honest, reasonable, and rational dialogue with Hate. That's not what he's here for. I agree 100% with Donna's assessment of Hate, he is the personification of dishonesty. He unabashedly relishes it and immerses himself in it. How can anyone possibly hope to engage in any kind of honest and reasonable dialogue with someone like that? Ya can't !!

I actually think it's funny that completely change you tune when it's your side of insurrection. And again, as a sheep y'all (inclusive) are blaming a gun. An inanimate object that didn't load itself or pull its own trigger.

It wasn't the gun's fault six people were murdered. The gun didn't make that decision. The person having the manifesto and pulling the trigger is the thing to blame. That's where I stand. Period.

  29. by Curt_Anderson on April 7, 2023 10:35 pm
    OD,
Sure it's not the fault of the gun. But don't you think that some people for reasons of their criminality or psychological problems shouldn't have a gun?

The Nashville shooter's parents were concerned about their child having a gun. The shooter was reportedly in mental therapy. The shooter who lived in her parent's house, had fooled the parents into thinking she didn't have any guns.

I am pretty sure there are ways of protecting Second Amendment rights while keeping guns out the hands of bad people.

I personally think that while mass shootings get all the news coverage, they are relatively rare. There were probably 400 or so gun homicides since that school shooting. A report issued in May by the gun-control group Everytown for Gun Safety analyzed FBI crime data in 271 American cities, large and small, from 2020 and found that guns stolen from vehicles have become the nation’s largest source of stolen firearms — with an estimated 40,000 guns stolen from cars in those cities alone.

Obviously stolen guns are likely to be used in other crimes. There must be a technological solution to keep guns from accidentally being left in cars. Maybe an app to alert the gun owner their gun is in the car. Maybe an airtag built into the gun.

I heard Ford is working on a car that drives itself back to the dealer if the car owner fails to make payments. After dashboard warnings the car progressively disables features before it drives off. There has to be way to disable a stolen gun.

It's a thing called a "red flag Law." Anyone concerned she was a threat to others should have reported. They didn't. Still not the gun's fault, as the demonstrators maintained.
If she was in therapy and it showed there. There's a reporting procedure for that. Still not the gun's fault like the demonstrators maintained.

Why she had a manifesto and hated so deeply, and allowed others to dictate their hatred for those that don't believe as they do. This group preaches killing those individuals, organizations, and thoughts. This was a carefully laid plan of careful deceit and lies in order to murder three children (one was trying to pull the fire alarm to warn others, a heroine at nine years old), and three adults. It appeared it was done as a suicide by cop, with is despicable to me. You want to kill yourself, it's a shame, but you have a "right" to do that.

From isle: I no longer have any illusions of having any kind of honest, reasonable, and rational dialogue with Hate.

Thing is. pb's "evolved" into copying and pasting material and videos from the media. Very little. Practically nuthin pb's been entering on SS lately is his own words. And NONE of what pb's contributed is his own opinion.

And, pb does that with intention.

You progressive Swampcultists avoid balance and truth. pb enters on SS what you scrupulously avoid. There's no lie in what pb puts here. pb NEVER ALTERS HIS COPY/PASTE MATERIAL, unless he's transparent about it and only for editorial purposes.

If isle can't have honest dialog with pb's posts?, that's on isle...and a reflection that isle, "...can't handle the truth."

    Truth.

  32. by islander on April 8, 2023 5:48 am

  35. by Ponderer on April 8, 2023 10:01 am

"Practically nuthin pb's been entering on SS lately is his own words." -Hate

So what? No one has said anything about them being your own words. No one thinks that things you post from articles and other nonsense you find in ditches along the side of the journalistic road are your words. What asinine straw man bullshit. No one falls for it. It just makes you look pitifully stupid.

The words of others that you post mirror your thoughts and beliefs, Bill. You have never done anything but corroborate this fact. It doesn't matter that the words didn't emanate from your mouth. You find others who agree with you and say essentially what you think to post here in order to lamely comfort yourself into believing that you have publicly separated yourself from what you believe. That is such chickenshit cowardice. It's flaming bullshit. You are a flaming bullshitter.

  36. by HatetheSwamp on April 8, 2023 10:12 am

    You silly sanctimones.

  37. by Ponderer on April 8, 2023 10:21 am

Yeah. I can understand how to you it looks like we are pretty sanctimonious. Especially when all we have to back up what we say is facts, evidence, and the reality in front of everyone's faces, and you can't show a single, solitary, god damned thing to support your baseless, petulant, willfully pig-ignorant denials of it.

    I do beg your pardon.

Maybe? When Hate talks through pb he believes they are not really his own words! I guess when he says, pb says this, or pb said that, Hate really believes it's somebody else, somebody named pb who is doing the talking !!! LoL !!

At least he uses valid references when he cites. Curt (and Donna)are really the only ones that routinely cite with facts to back up their thoughts on the liberal side of things. Lead and I do constantly because 1. It's a good practice to see where your information is coming from, and 2. that either this is what is "known" or this is what happened. From there we draw conclusions. It could be that given the same information, we can draw different conclusions. But at least we're citing fact. Not someone's opinion taken as fact.

Where did that come from? It has nothing to do with the discussion going on in this thread. You’re going of point again.

We all post references and cite facts when necessary and appropriate. For example there were no references of citations in your post, in fact, if you count the number of your posts in this thread you’ll only find one of them with a link to a news site and if you count mine you’ll find it’s the same...So What ???

If you want to start a thread on the use of citations and references feel free to do so.

In po's defense "this time." She presented the video. That means something. That is a dialogue of what happened. I appreciate that. We're not arguing about what they said. It's right there. If you didn't watch the video, it's your fault.

We can disagree on the outcome, meaning, surrounding activity, etc. She still presented facts in this case. Using fluffy as "fact" is irrational.

  44. by islander on April 9, 2023 7:32 am

Hate has no idea how foolish he sounds “in the real world” LoL !!!

Hate’s is a world of fantasy and contradictions. A world in which he claims, “subjectivity is Truth”! However, for us progressives who live in the real world...”Truth is that which conforms to reality”.

It is, among other things, Hate’s contradictory claims that give him away as a troll with no interest in honestly having any kind of reasonable or rational dialogue here.

Here’s example of what I mean, and this is guaranteed to make your eyes roll🙄 LoL !!

Hate tells us that practically nothing he’s been entering on SS lately is his own words...He goes on to say NONE of what he posts is his own opinion! ...Really LoL!!

After making those ridiculous claims, what does Hate do? He contradicts himself and gives us his own opinion in his own words right here !! 🤣

”I'm convinced that po's anger and isle's hate result from their ideology, not truth, based journey through life. You and I have strong opinions, but we interact with what's real. They, begin with belief. They never compromise their opinion.” ~ Hate

Aside from contradicting himself , what Hate writes is just bunch of nonsense!..And the funniest thing is, he can’t quite figure out why it’s so easy for all of us to see through him! 🍻

Dead on, Lead. I understand your "most." Sometimes it is opinion. But I usually try to fill that in with facts. Explaining my religious beliefs were my words. But I "mostly" agree with putting facts there first.

    OD,

We all live life as subjects, our "orientation" always is with us. All of us. Some of us are honest about that, others not.

The difference I see between po and isle and you and me is that we seek truth beyond our selves. They?, impose their orientation and preferences, opinions and taste on everyone and every thing. Hence, isle quoting Teri and Heather with more zeal than the most bonkers Christian fundamentalist thumps the Bible. They affirm his prejudices.

Hate. You mentioned Teri and Heather but you forgot about Marcy Wheeler, another of my favorites. What happened !!!

The question for today is...What becomes of people like you who are envious and scared to death of any woman who has more brains, more intellectual integrity and is superior to you in all the ways that count !!

Well...sadly...there’s not really much you can do. 😢

I guess being an internet troll must give you some sort of comfort though. So continue on and we’’ll all try to keep our laughter down to a minimum (as much as we can) as we watch you embarrass yourself in font of all of us and everyone else who visits this site.

    🤣 Ooops !!

I’m sorry! I was just picturing you typing away and trying your hardest to respond like a bully frightful troll and that little burst of laughter just slipped out !!!

I've always said that Teri and Heather are both very bright.

    Bonkers.

    Deranged, certainly.

    Angry.

    Hate-filled.

    But, bright. Very, very bright.

  49. by islander on April 9, 2023 1:41 pm

So that’s the best you can do? Call them names?

C’mon, a seasoned internet troll like you can do better than that !! That’s kindergarten stuff !

You’re starting to bore me, Hate... If you can’t do any better than this I might have to stop feeding you...Don’t make me have to do that!

How's this. I question their accuracy and motives. They refuse to cite where they're getting information. This makes sense because they are pundits. Much like Hannity.

od wrote: ""They refuse to cite where they're getting information."

That's your stock answer when you don't have anything intelligent to say.

Do you ever ask yourself why you feel the need to post foolish lies like that?

You make "yourself" look foolish when you post your ridiculous nonsense here on SS.

It's obvious that you have never even gone to or read anything on their sites.

If you had, you'd know that they are exemplary at citing where they get their information.

Try actually taking the time to check out what they actually write sometime.

I do remember this ONE example.

  53. by islander on April 11, 2023 6:39 am

Well at least I got you read ONE of Teri's posts, od.

And now you know how foolish your original claim was.

THINK before you post, od and make sure you've gotten your facts straight, that way you won't embarrass yourself like this as often as you do.

ONE doesn't make it a pattern (other than it isn't a pattern).

  55. by islander on April 11, 2023 7:33 am

You’re displaying your ignorance again, od.

You’re proving to us all that you had no idea what you were talking about when you said they ” refuse to cite where they're getting information.”

You had never even read what they said. LoL

Here’s another one to prove how stunningly wrong you are...Maybe I can get you to read TWO of her posts! And I can keep providing more if you want as long as you promise to read them.
