Here are the arguments I’ve heard and read from Trump’s defenders and supporters:
1. It’s unprecedented!
2. It’s persecution!
3. It’s a private matter between consenting adults. (the charges actually will be be tax, campaign and/or business fraud)
4. Hush money is not illegal. Many people enter into non disclosure agreements.
5. This happened years ago.
6. There are murderers, rapists in other worse criminals in NYC.
7. Michael Cohen (Trump’s former partner in crime) is not to be trusted.
8. It will tear the country apart.
9. The Manhattan DA is turning misdemeanors into felonies.
10. Democrats are interfering with a presidential candidate’s campaign.

What I have NOT heard from Trump supporters is that Trump didn’t do it, he’s innocent.

    First, he admitted to it.
    3. It’s a private matter between consenting adults. (the charges actually will be be tax, campaign and/or business fraud)
Right. He rented a hooker and paid her. Before anything happened, she signed a nondisclosure agreement. That is a binding contract. I don't think you "must" list money you spend, unless you do? OR you're claiming a deduction. I don't think he would, but I'm open if you can show that.

    4. Hush money is not illegal. Many people enter into non-disclosure agreements.

Hush money generally is illegal by its very nature. It generally happens regarding a criminal act. Like bribery, or extortion. None of those are included here. She broke the NDA that was spelled out in a contract. A violation of a contract that many businesses have for employees and contractors. In this case, she is the contractor. It really IS that simple. That's a violation of a contract. The entire case she fought was about contract law. Instead of going to court, they made an agreement which included a sum of money.

THE ISSUE IS what pot did the money come from. It's that simple. DOJ looked in to it and agreed the money was PERSONAL funds, not campaign funds. If you jail him, again, jail AOC for paying her brother/boyfriend for illegally using campaign money (She settled and paid. No jail time). It's Cohen's "view" it was illegal and hush money.

    5. This happened years ago.
NY statute of limitations is TWO YEARS. So here's a sieve in your case. Bragg is so stupid to adopt FEDERAL Law to charge a STATE crime. That's why US congress could subpoena him. He is blurring the lines so he can get called.

    Curt,

You must be falling behind on your Fox watchin...and your Truth Social readin. EVERYONE I'm seeing/reading is saying that this is a "Trumped" up charge...and that there's nuthin for him to be innocent of.

    You really don't know that!!!!!?

    "First, he admitted to it."
"NY statute of limitations is TWO YEARS."
"she signed a nondisclosure agreement. That is a binding contract." --OD

    OD,
Former president Donald Trump vehemently denied that he had an affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels as he faces a potential indictment for paying money to keep their affair quiet.

NY state has a two-year statute of limitations for misdemeanors, a FIVE-year one for felonies and no limitations for murder and other heinous crimes. New York law extends those limits to cover periods when a defendant was continuously out of state. The statute of limitations clock stopped when Trump was president as he had immunity from all prosecution. During the pandemic, New York’s statute of limitations was extended by more than a year.

The nondisclosure agreement Stormy Daniels signed just days before the 2016 election is invalid because Trump didn't sign it.

HtS, "trumped-up" charges doesn't necessarily mean the defendant is an innocent lamb. "Up" is operative here. The term has a strong implication that the charges are exaggerated or expanded.

It's entirely unclear what you suppose Trump is guilty of. Extramarital coitus?

"It's entirely unclear what you suppose Trump is guilty of. Extramarital coitus?" ---HtS

That's what FOX News is trying to make their viewers believe are the charges. You are supposed to think that Trump is merely an "innocent" philanderer and moral reprobate. Btw, FOX's harping on his dalliance with a porn star probably doesn't sit well with many Republicans, especially women. If I ever got into legal trouble I wouldn't want my defenders to say, "he's not a business or tax cheat; he just cheats on his wife!"

The public won't hear what charges Trump faces until Tuesday. Having sex outside of marriage is the one thing we know Trump won't be charged with. It's been reported that he is facing more than 30 counts related to business fraud.

  7. by HatetheSwamp on April 2, 2023 12:38 pm

That's what FOX News is trying to make their viewers believe are the charges.

    Really!!!!!?

The public won't hear what charges Trump faces until Tuesday.

What pb gets about this is that both you TDSers and the TOSers are fools to argue about whether Trump’s guilty or not. Thing is. No one knows what he's charged with. You just noted that. Still, you want to argue about his guilty.

    Sheeeeeeeeeeeesh!

    That's why I asked you.

"That's what FOX News is trying to make their viewers believe are the charges.

    Really!!!!!?" --- HtS

Yes, really. A dejected Jesse Watters griped that it's a "private civil settlement" and that "Democrats and the media said 'your private life is your private life".

  9. by HatetheSwamp on April 2, 2023 1:44 pm

So, he's being charged with that "private settlement?"

    That's not what you claimed.

  10. by Curt_Anderson on April 2, 2023 1:59 pm
So, he's being charged with that "private settlement?"

That's not what you claimed. ---HtS

That is not what I said. If you were to believe Watters (which apparently your do), the indictment is not about any sort of fraud, but it's about Trump's private life.

I still question brag. Mostly because he isn't listening to his ADAs. What he is doine is that he is using a law that he's trying to get a felony about. I think that anyone that believes in him is a worse POS than Trump is. Which is pretty low.

  12. by HatetheSwamp on April 3, 2023 2:55 am

    Curt,

    I don't believe Watters...

...but, apparently, you believe he's the only commentator on Fox.
