This study was conducted in the Netherlands.

BACKGROUND:

In recent years, puberty suppression by means of gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogs has become accepted in clinical management of adolescents who have gender dysphoria (GD). The current study is the first longer-term longitudinal evaluation of the effectiveness of this approach.

METHODS:

A total of 55 young transgender adults (22 transwomen and 33 transmen) who had received puberty suppression during adolescence were assessed 3 times: before the start of puberty suppression (mean age, 13.6 years), when cross-sex hormones were introduced (mean age, 16.7 years), and at least 1 year after gender reassignment surgery (mean age, 20.7 years). Psychological functioning (GD, body image, global functioning, depression, anxiety, emotional and behavioral problems) and objective (social and educational/professional functioning) and subjective (quality of life, satisfaction with life and happiness) well-being were investigated.

RESULTS:

After gender reassignment, in young adulthood, the GD was alleviated and psychological functioning had steadily improved. Well-being was similar to or better than same-age young adults from the general population. Improvements in psychological functioning were positively correlated with postsurgical subjective well-being.

CONCLUSIONS:

A clinical protocol of a multidisciplinary team with mental health professionals, physicians, and surgeons, including puberty suppression, followed by cross-sex hormones and gender reassignment surgery, provides gender dysphoric youth who seek gender reassignment from early puberty on, the opportunity to develop into well-functioning young adults.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is a left-of-center organization comprised of pediatricians which claims to advocate for the medical welfare of children...Nominally nonpartisan, AAP has taken left-of-center stances...

So? Influence Watch doesn't have a right-wing bias?

The study was conducted by The Center of Expertise on Gender Dysphoria in Amsterdam, Netherlands. These are physicians who've been treating TG people for over 50 years. They probably know a little about gender dysphoria.

The Center of Expertise on Gender Dysphoria (CEGD), or the Kennis- en Zorgcentrum Genderdysforie (KZcG), is a transgender clinic at the VU University Medical Center (VUMC) of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It opened in 1972 and is one of the largest transgender clinics and research institutes in the world. As of 2021, it has treated about 10,000 transgender people since it opened almost 50 years previously. The clinic was first headed by Louis Gooren.

Yes, Donna. Influencewatch is OPENLY and unapologetically conservative. It's an arm of the Capital Research Center.

There's no farce. No pretense of academic objectivity. That's a difference between our side and yours. Y'nes subverted formerly respected organizations and institutions under the guise of advancing an agenda and, we're stupid...just not that stupid. Bahahahahahahahahahaha.

I'll trust the study. No problems with that. I think they "proved" what they wanted to.

The question I have is the money to be made in this.

"Who are these wealthy men institutionalizing transgender Ideology? These are men and women who invest in biomedical companies and are funding myriad transgender organizations whose agenda will make them gobs of money."

I am not really comfortable with the idea of gender re-assignment of children. Admittedly, it's not a subject I know much about. Excuse me for expressing my feeling in the form of opinions.

There are some decisions that cannot be undone or only partially undone. So we have to be very careful when making them.

While there are exceptions, we generally don't trust kids to make long-term life-changing decisions. Science tells us that kids brains are not fully developed which accounts for their impulsivity. Kids have a disproportionate amount of car accidents because they don't make good decisions. It's not because they have bad eyesight or slow reaction times.

That's why the justice system treats kids differently than adults. The United States stands alone as the only nation that sentences people to life without parole for crimes committed before turning 18, according the Sentencing Project. We don't execute children who murder.

The Marshall Project notes that multiple U.S. Supreme Court rulings state that automatically sentencing juveniles to life in prison without the possibility of parole is unconstitutional, because kids have a unique ability to grow and change and therefore deserve a second chance down the road.

The minor doesn't make the final decisions for medical treatments. Even as an adult, my treatments weren't rubber stamped. I had to jump through several hoops. Exceot from some renegade medical practitioners, the medical establishment doesn't take transioning lightly, especially as it concerns minors.

The overwhelming majority of TGs who began their transition as minors have been helped immensely by transitioning and don't regret it.
