THE HILL ain't a hotbed of TDS. In fact, it's rather reasonable. It's a decent source of objectivity. This take seems more connected to the real world than isle's GOPaphobic, race-tinged rant.

Strong stuff. All the more significant because it doesn't come from a source of deranged anti-Trump hate.

Stumbling, mumbling, fumbling Herschel Walker finally flopped out of the Georgia Senate race. But while Walker can — and probably will — just exit politics and sink back into semi-obscurity, the man who dragged him into the race and imposed a demonstrably unqualified candidate on Georgia Republicans is now stuck dealing with the damage.

The Georgia Senate loss belongs to Donald Trump.

...laboring under the delusion that Trump is a political genius and should never be counted out, many timid Republican officeholders are still hesitant to fully break with him — but it’s time for even the most pusillanimous Republican VIPs to head for the lifeboats and escape the Trump Titanic.

Not only is it clear that Trump is descending further into self-pity and rage, Republican voters continue to hemorrhage away from him at a steady pace.

Trump is in a downward spiral, more than partly of his own making: He has shown himself to be not really very good at politics.

He’s a loser.

He knows how to bluster and bluff, and that’s about it.

Sounds good to pb.

Walker was just the final losing candidate in string of Trump-endorsed losing candidates. Trump's value to the GOP was that they believed that he had some sort of winning touch and a loyal following. Some US Senator, John Thune maybe, said today that Trump's endorsement is the kiss of death. For about every voter who views Trump favorably, he is an anathema to two voters.

By the way, the rejection of Trumpist candidates at the polls this past month, is a good indicator that Trump was fairly rejected in 2020. Trump's voters were those people who Lincoln said you could "fool all of the time". But since 2016 they are the dwindling "some of the people" and not enough to win elections.

Trump's value to the GOP was that they believed that he had some sort of winning touch and a loyal following...

I think that you're falling prey to what OD told isle that he is guilty of i.e., thinking about the GOPs like they're the Dems. The GOP, increasingly so, is the home of intense, nearly chaotic, diversity and inclusion and tolerance and openness and acceptance. SOME GOPs believe that Trump had a winning touch. And, Trump was Midas in the primaries. Nearly all his endorsed candidates won their primaries. Many won in November.

Trump's problem...hopefully his fatal problem...is that he thought he could turn $hit into $ilver. He made horrible choices in his endorsements.

pb doesn't share the racist opinions about Herschel Walker that isle does (and you do), but Walker was a horrible candidate. Here in Pennsylvania, Dr Oz seems to be a nice enough fella but I observed that race up close. He tried, but he was out of his element. Oz was booed, even by the MAGAs, at the Pennsylvania rally when Trump introduced him as his endorsed candidate.

In his endorsements, Trump didn't choose candidates who could have most effectively advanced the antiSwamp cause. He seems to have hoped to create a celebrity clique centered around him. Walker was a football hero. Dr Oz. J. D. Vance (I did love the book). All famous. But bad candidates.

This is where I think Trump erred and where I hope he dug his grave. The antiSwamp is a way of thinking. It's about a commitment to the principles brought to life in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. And, it's about opposition to the corruption of the politics as usual culture in DC. pb's still baffled that, in 016, many antiSwamp people embraced Trump so enthusiastically. People like OD and pb dumped Trump long before the 020 election debacle. You may remember that pb said that he sorta hoped that Trump candidates would lose so that Trump'd be damaged. pb got what he sorta wanted.

I thought you and od said you were going to vote for Trump in the general election.

Lead- I think it's interesting that many of the posts here seem to seek out a "gotcha" or a dig regarding Trump. I think we're after the same thing, although Trump doesn't live in our total being. Kind of like Mitt. I was really hoping he'd just go away. Eventually he did, but... I wish Trump just wouldn't run. That would make the long bench of the conservatives better. We could actually talk about the issues without the name calling, etc.

    Donna,

pb was repeating his, "I despise Trump. I think he's despicable," tune long before even 018!

pb can guarantee-d@ng-tee you. In both 016 and 020 that if pb lived in a red state, say, Texas, he'd'a never voted for Trump. That's why your vote for "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" in 020 in a state the Former Trucker won by 4,000,000 votes, tells me all I need to know about you.

pb's still on the Bill Barr team. He'll vote for Trump in the General Election, if that's his choice, unless you Dems put up a more reasonable candidate. I'll do it because I live in a purple state. My conscience won't allow me to vote for a progressive Swampcultist. I'm not confident that the nation can survive four more years of that.

    Preach it, OD!

  7. by Donna on December 8, 2022 10:18 am

LOL! Okay, so as I thought, you didn't really "dump" Trump.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on December 8, 2022 10:25 am

I did dump Trump. Here's to hopin I don't have to go Trumpster dumpster divin.

  9. by Donna on December 8, 2022 10:34 am

You go by an odd definition of the word "dump". I guess back in the day if you said that you dumped your significant other, what you really meant is that you would continue dating that person until someone one better came along.
