Nobody will confuse Afghanistan with a liberal democracy. Their government and policies more closely resemble medieval Europe than modern Europe.

After Biden finally pulled the plug on our futile attempt to modernize Afghanistan, there was much moaning and groaning about "betraying" those Afghanis who assisted the United States military over the previous two decades.

However, a year later, I can't find any reports or other evidence that the Taliban is ruthlessly mass executing interpreters, drivers and others. It's not is if we don't any idea what's happening there. We managed know when Ayman al-Zawahiri would be sunning himself on his Kabul balcony. Western journalists come and go to Afghanistan.

We all do know of somebody who cooperated with the United States during the war years and is apparently alive and well. Hamid Karzai was installed as president of Afghanistan by the United States and western powers. Given his past; Karzai also led the Pashtun tribes in and around Kandahar in an uprising against the Taliban, you might think he'd the first person to be condemned by the Taliban. Nevertheless, he is now living in Kabul. He is not in jail or on trial.

Seriously, can anybody link to reports that the supposed hundreds of Afghan interpreters who were "left behind" have been summarily executed or imprisoned? Or were the fears unfounded?

The only person that would write that or post it, is someone that has zero understanding of what they did and what they gave up. Those left will be hunted down and them and their families murdered. That includes at least siblings and their families. They'll be lost and you'll never know. So it's no skin off your nose. There will be no reporting on the funerals (if there are any). They'll just disappear into the soil.

    OD,
It's been a year since we vamoosed. Can you cite ONE report of a translator being executed? Because of organizations like Amnesty International, we know executions and torture happen there. As I said before, they suck. But executions have been for the "crime" of being mentally ill not for collaborating with the US military.

Ok, so IOW there is no evidence, as Curt said.

That's EXACTLY what I was talking about. Neither of you bothered to read a short post. I made it easier for you to read... Let me know if I need to go to a third grade level.

    OD,
Yes, we read that the first time. Where is the proof that those left were hunted down and and with their families murdered? Show us a link to a news report stating that occurred, not just an opinion piece predicting that it will happen.

There are scores of NGO's in Afghanistan. If any of the fears you and HtS expressed actually happened, wouldn't it have been reported by now?

There is group of people, including veterans, who really want to justify our twenty year, $2 trillion adventure in Afghanistan. Since they can't really point to any lasting accomplishments of our being there, they fearmonger our departure as if it were a bad thing.

Said by a pair of "ugly Americans" who know nothing how the taliban operate. You sound like the naysayers when there were reports of the Jews being locked up and sent to camps. Or when the football field in Kabul was being used daily to "execute" those who broke Qur'anic law such as not being completely covered when the Taliban broke into the house.

You talk shit about our government, but support the Taliban. Well maybe it does. . You can't get out of your pink porcelain and ivory towers long enough to actually understand anything out of your protected white racist middle class lives. And they're just sand niggers to you, right? they lived peaceful lives until the US came in and "made" them do the things they did.

I remember it used to be the dims that were aghast at what Pol Pot did, and now they run from this and demand there to be pictures and newsfeed on how bad the Taliban is.

I also noticed that it wasn't cited, so I'm going to "assume" it was Curt's racist article, with Donna nodding her head on command.

I figured you'd become unglued and start calling us names and making ridiculos accusations about us. That happens almost daily here.

It won't surprise me if evidence actually surfaces, od, but for now, I'm merely noting that no evidence of that kind has surfaced. So if it does, don't falsely attack me and claim that I denied that there would ever be reprisals against interpreters and others.

  8. by oldedude on August 9, 2022 12:05 pm
I don't think they were "false." I told you this would happen, but you avoided it. It's a lot like FDR refusing to take Jews during WWII. A whole ship full. All but a few of them died in places that are known now. I hold him to be responsible for their murders and collaborating with the NAZIs. So honestly, whatever you say really doesn't matter at this point.

I know it's "inconvenient" for you to think of this, so I'll just post these stories. There's plenty more where they came from.

And what gets me "unglued" is your marxist disregard for any other human being except for yourself. Your blatant disregard of any other person alive, while you wallow in the mud and shit of your own self pity. You would have been great living in Alabama in the 1950's, setting up crosses and putting bricks through windows.

OD, Those news reports that your labeled "inconvenient" are inconvenient for your argument. All of those reports of Afghanis being executed were dated BEFORE our withdrawal. One report was from 2015.

Good thing Biden got us the hell out of there.

I do appreciate your doing an exhaustive search. I am sure if there were any examples of interpreters being executed AFTER our departure, you would have posted it here. Now I am more convinced than ever that the dire predictions and the hand-wringing over our withdrawal wasn't justified.

There are over 100 NGOs operating in Afghanistan. It's highly probable that the interpreters who we "betrayed" are working for these NGOs.

Name me ONE, just ONE fucking news source that exists outside of Kabul. With one exception (al Jazeera that isn't going to say anything) everyone else left. How is that "news" going to get out? I actually thought you might be smarter than this. Apparently I was wrong. The FACT is this happened before, are you so stupid to think it won't happen because no the US ran off on the skids of helicopters?

Ditto to you what I said to Donna.

are they outside of Kabul? I don't think this was really about "news" as much as the station. If they go outside the city, fine.
