Btw, whose side are they are on?

Still stinging from their inability to stop Democrats from passing legislation designed to aid veterans fighting diseases linked to toxic burn pit exposure, Republicans had a hard fought close win today. Now they can brag to their constituents that they kept the cost of insulin high.

Republicans block cap on insulin costs for many Americans from Democratic deal
(CNBC)Republican senators on Sunday voted down a cap on the price of insulin in the private market, removing it from Democrats’ sweeping climate and economic package.

Democrats had tried to preserve the provision to cap insulin costs at $35 for private insurers, but that vote failed 57-43, with seven Republicans voting with them to keep the insulin cost cap in the bill, three short of what was needed.

The move was expected following a decision by the Senate parliamentarian, who determined earlier that the insulin provision was not compliant with the chamber’s strict budget rules. Democrats need to comply with those rules to advance the legislation, called the Inflation Reduction Act, without any Republican votes.

Republican senators on Sunday voted down a cap on the price of insulin in the private market, removing it from Democrats’ sweeping climate and economic package.

    Bahahahahahahahahahaha, ahhhhhhhhhhh.

The congressional GOP is impotent. They control nuthin. Seven Dems voted with the GOPs.

pb will say this: In the Senate, what the moderates do, is most of the story.

Joe Biden and Joe Manchin are going to be able to claim a victory in the passing of this bill, but, in the end, Dems will pay an electoral price for it just as they did for passing that bad OCare bill in 010.

If GOPs like Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins and Mitt Romney won't vote for a Dem bill, it's going to be political poison on election day.

The GOPs scored points over the amendment votes. The campaign ads were probably written while the ink was drying on the text of the amendments.

One way I can tell if the Dems actually won something is the tone of the right wing SwampMedia. When the right wing SwampMedia becomes crabby and shrill, the Dems won. The right way SwampMedia is jubilant over the Manchin bill. They can envision hundreds of stories they'll produce between now and the time the 022 election becomes the story.

You're right Curt, this will be an electoral win for the GOP.

    Gang,

Re: "Seven Dems voted with the GOPs...If GOPs like Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins and Mitt Romney won't vote for a Dem bill, it's going to be political poison on election day."

HtS apologizes that he allowed pb to get carried away.

Most of what he posted, though, is bang on. No Dems voted for that amendment.

Still, it's true. None of the GOPs who were willing to vote for impeachment, voted for this ridiculous bill. This is a bad bill.

Joe Biden won a victory...in passing a bad bill. GOPs absolutely will use purple state Senate and House members votes for the bill in the 022 campaign.

    You are right Curt,

The passage of this bill was important, although not "perfect" as most bills aren't in a democracy, HCR illustrates one of the reason we can all celebrate its passage.

From today's "Letters From an American":

"Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne noted accurately today that what these measures do is far more than the sum of their parts. They show Americans that democracy is messy and slow but that it works, and it works for them. Since he took office, this has been President Joe Biden’s argument: he would head off the global drive toward authoritarianism by showing that democracy is still the best system of government out there.

At a time when authoritarians are trying to demonstrate that democracies cannot function nearly as effectively as the rule of an elite few, he is proving them wrong.

This is a very big deal indeed."

And, you probably, blindly, believe that, eh, isle.

Joe Biden has foisted harmful Executive Orders on the nation from his first day in office.

"That feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" never met a lock down nor a mandate he didn't love. He fought tooth and nail to reinstate his authoritarian mandates after they were shot down in the courts.

Throughout his presidency, the Flatulent Fool has done everything in his power to crush the Bill of Rights. So he could hear people like you scream, "But pb, but pb! Rights are not absolute!"

The last thing Joe Biden is, is a believer in democracy.

Without a doubt, the Former Truck Driver rates among the most tyrannical Presidents in American history.

Democrats are missing the point. That vote was an example of "compassionate conservatism". Most seniors in America are just scraping by as they inch closer to their inevitable deaths. Republicans are just speeding up the process so they won't have to suffer as long.

Until we can get enough Democrats to get out there and vote some of these Republicans out of office we can't really complain when we are unable to accomplish more.

    What!!!!!?

    isle,

There's a Dem, a demented Dem admittedly, in the White House. AND, Dems control both Houses of Congress.

I think that what you have now is as good as it's going to be for a looooooooong time!

"Dems control both Houses of Congress." --HtS

That "control" only occurs when 51 votes are sufficient to pass a bill in the Senate. Generally 60 votes are needed in a 50/50 Senate.

    Curt,

As I've said, there are moderate GOPs in the Senate. A president capable reaching across the aisle should have no problem forging consensus on important issues, if the aim is to serve the will of the people.
