Recently in this forum the subject of conmen and crooks was brought up by Olde Dude. Elsewhere here, Islander likened Trump to a fading entertainer with a dwindling but zealous audience of fans. Those thoughts got me to thinking.
Weirdly people like and celebrate rogues and charlatans. Even the likes of Soapy Smith is commemorated with an annual day. Old rock & roll groups in their umpteenth iteration still draw a crowd at country fairs. Long dead performers like Elvis have their "tribute" impersonators performing their songs.
Trump is a combination conman and entertainer. Don Rickles was an insult comic. Rodney Dangerfield didn't get respect. Trump is the grievance comedian who bemoans his "persecution". Trump intersperses his self-pity with a Joe Isuzu-like litany of lies, usually self-aggrandizing. His audiences eat it up.
So here's my prediction: When Trump is dead and gone, there will be Trump imitators doing his schtick. They will don an orange wig, some will wear a fat suit and recreate his greatest hits.
