LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson resigned Thursday, acknowledging that it was “clearly the will” of his party that he should go.

He stepped down immediately as leader of his Conservative Party but plans to remain as prime minister while the leadership contest is held. He said he has appointed a new Cabinet following a multitude of resignations, but many are calling for him to go now.

    As tourists, my family and I walked along the River Thames and quite unexpectedly happened upon Downing Street. I was curious to walk to Number Ten Downing Street, home of the Prime Minister. We stood right where Boris Johnson resigned his office.

    It was a rather ordinary single wooden door entry. No grand entry. A single step up to the door. No guards outside. It looked like the many other plain darkly painted windowless entry ways along what I would describe as an alley walkway. Nobody besides us paid much attention to the famous address.
