Guide faculty and students on the process for cheating and plagiarism charges

                 
 
 
Faculty suspects cheating/plagiarism and has a conference with student(s)
 
 









 
If faculty concludes that cheating and/or plagiarism occurred, faculty files an Instructor's Report on Cheating and Plagiarism with the Vice President of Student Affairs
If student disagrees with sanctions or disagree with the charge, student can appeal to Department Chair
If student agrees to sanctions, no further action from faculty
Student can attend special course to learn more about cheating and plagiarism









Faculty requests disciplinary sanctions in addition to academic sanctions
Department chair conducts a hearing
Department chair agrees with faculty and/or sanctions
Student accepts the Department Chair decision, no further action from Faculty or Student
Student can waive certain plagiarism and cheating charges through attending special course









Vice President for Student Affairs makes a decision on the request for disciplinary sanctions (In accordance with Section 41301 of Title 5; Executive Order No.628)
Student disagrees with decision, student can appeal to Academic Petitions Board
Department Chair agrees with student and disagrees with faculty and/or sanctions
If faculty disagrees with Department Chair decision, faculty can appeal to Academic Petitions Board
 









 
 
Academic Petitions Board reviews based on documents submitted by both parties
If student accepts the decision, no further action is required
Student can waive certain plagiarism and cheating charges through attending special course









 
If student disagrees with the Academic petitions Board decision, student can appeal to the Provost
 
If faculty disagree with the Academic Petitions Board decision, faculty can appeal to the Provost
