The facts and quotes in this article would make a good campaign ad exposing Trump's cruelty and hypocrisy.

She never lost sight of a fact Republicans couldn’t comprehend: The hearings aren’t about spanking Trump. They’re about saving America.

(Perspective by Monica Hesse Washington Post Columnist)
The assignment of the select committee was to lay out — particularly for Americans who have been unconvinced by news articles, an impeachment trial, presidential tweets, witness accounts, participant accounts, delusional MAGA shamans and hair-raising video footage that citizens could watch with their own dang eyes — that Donald Trump had not only recognized the possibility of violence at the Capitol, he had essentially willed it into existence. The assignment was to create a thorough historical record. It couldn’t change the past but it might ensure that all Americans vaguely understood the same version of it.

There were times when I began to think that it's too late to save our country, but more and more those negative feelings are melting away.

Naturally the battle will never be over but I think we are winning this round.

I'd still like to see those responsible for their crimes against our Democracy held accountable. If they are not, it will only make it more likely that they'll try it again, and next time they'll have learned how to avoid many of the mistakes they made this time. But I think we learned a lot about them and their tactics as well !

I can now say with confidence...At least Trump is finished ! 🍻

I hope the Supremes make a sensible decision on an upcoming case that involves state electors. If they rule against democracy, state legislatures will have the right to choose their own electors with no judicial oversight.

I think one of the things we've learned is that we have to re-examine the Supreme Court and how it works. We can see the dangers inherent in it the way it is now and we need to figure out the best way to fix the court and the changes we need to make.

AOC and other Congressional Democrats have proposed handling the situation by codifying abortion rights, same-sex marriage, and even contraception through Congress.

A while back, Curt started a thread about AOC's proposal to restrict the Supreme Court's jurisdiction on abortion. Curt thought is was a stupid idea and so did I, but neither of us bothered to look how AOC planned to go about that.

    And it wasn't just AOC.

Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Bonnie Watson Coleman (N.J.), Marie Newman (Ill.), Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), Jamaal Bowman (N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Mark Takano (Calif.), Kaiali’i Kahele (Hawaii) and Cori Bush's (Mo.) called for restricting the Supreme Court’s appellate jurisdiction in the areas of not only abortion, but also marriage equality, non-procreative intimacy, and contraception through Congress taking legislative action to codify each of those rights they want to preserve.

Outside of that, there doesn't appear to be anything that can be done on a federal level.

I think the Republican party figured out a long time ago that the best path to enact their reactionary agenda wasn't going to be through Congress, but through the Supreme Court. That's why they pulled out all the stops to load the Supreme Court with justices they could count on to enact their agenda.

    I agree with you 100% !

This whole nightmare has been a real eye opener and a lesson in what can happen if we start to become too complacent.
