The Bill of Rights begins by prohibiting government from prohibiting the free exercise of religion.

Here, in spite of the willingness of this religious school's opponents to cooperate, government bureaucrats denied a Seventh Day Adventist high school team an opportunity to participate in a b-ball tournament.

The liberty of people of any and every faith to function in this country free from government intrusion is a right that was hard won...and is constantly under attack from small-minded, bigoted people.

    This is not a First Amendment issue. The Alabama High School Athletic Association is a private association and not a governmental agency.

    Technically, Curt. Splitting hairs.

    The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), based in Montgomery, is the governing body for interscholastic athletics and activities programs for public schools in Alabama.

    But, in a sense, this may be better understood in light of the woke, secular School Board members being recalled in San Francisco and Glenn Youngkin upsetting Terry McAuliffe in blue Virginia by running against the teaching of CRT.

    Either way, Freedom of Religion is under assault here.

    It's not a technicality. The AHSAA is a private organization and they won't have to adjust the schedule of their tournament to fit the whims of one school.

    The First Amendment's religion clause applies only to the government restricting or forcing religion onto people. Ignoramuses have difficulty grasping that concept.

    It is a private organization...TO WHICH ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THE STATE SUBMIT.

    This is one of those places that the state and private organizations connect in an inbred way.

    And, I'm sure you saw how the Governor felt empowered to hold the private organization accountable...

    ...and no one's objecting.

    The close connection with the state would probably make the AASHA accountable to the First Amendment.

    There's not going to be a court case here but I doubt that this is as clear-cut as you want it to be.
