People who say they are voting for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are probably low-information voters.

Let's get our priorities right. Covid hospital stays should be considered elective procedures.

I haven't been making my usual contributions to the Post because I've been having to work upgrading this website.

Not that it interferes with my website work but here in southern Oregon we've been suffering from poor air quality due to forest fires in the region. However this morning there was a couple of hours a good quality air so I took advantage of it and went for a four mile run.

I ran into some friends. He has Parkinson's. He's been trying to get an appointment for for brain surgery which should relieve his symptoms. However he's been having to wait to get a surgery date because of covid patients who are filling up our hospitals.

His wife complained asking why should these covid patients get priority over people like her husband. Technically what he's having done is considered elective surgery.

I suggested that doctors and hospitals should consider the work they're doing for covid patients as elective procedures. After all these covid patients or at least 90% of them elected not to be vaccinated.

Thanks for all your efforts maintaining and improving this forum, Curt.

I agree with you and your wife. A good friend of mine was told a couple of weeks ago that a couple of elective procedures that were scheduled for her were being postponed indefinitely because of the large number of COVID patients, 90-99% of which are unvaccinated. And she's pretty pissed off about it.

Does she want vaxxed, mask wearing COVID sufferers to be allowed to do die or only people who didn't vax and mitigate and, therefore, WANT to get seriously ill?

We have now gotten to the place where people with COVID are becoming who Jews were in Nazi Germany.

Although we did not get into specifics I suspect his wife agrees with me. That is unvaccinated covid patients should get in line with others seeking elective surgery.

"Elective surgery" is defined as any surgery that it's not an emergency. That includes my friend's brain surgery, various heart operations and implantations, kidney stone removals and a mastectomies for breast cancer patients.

Incidentally after I wrote this I saw an ad on television last night about drug costs. The man featured in the ad said he had to give up his career in law enforcement because of his Parkinson's. He went on to say that the drug he takes for his Parkinson's costs him $3,000 a month. I don't know if my friend has that kind of expense for his Parkinson's disease. But if he does, I can see why he'd rather have the brain surgery sooner rather than later.

There's no question that these are terrible times. My heart goes out to your friend.

You probably saw my post detailing my uncle's death due to COVID. I don't know for certain, but I'm confident that he was vaxxed and a mask wearer.

    These are difficult times.

From what I can tell from NYT statistics, the Delta variant curve may be flattening.

Your uncle may or may not have been vaccinated. He may have been vaccinated but immunocompromised. I am 90 to 97.5% confident that he contracted covid from an unvaccinated person.

This morning, on MSNBC, Dr. Vin Gupta said he was at Oregon Health Science University in the past few days discussing with the medical staff there the very topic of my article. Namely, triage and the ethical dilemmas caused by the inundation of Covid patients and the delayed surgeries and procedures that others desperately need.

Dr. Gupta didn't use the term "elective surgery". He talked about "preventative surgeries" which he said are as important as "emergency" surgeries and procedures.

Perhaps not coincidentally, OHSU is where my friend will have his operation performed. I wonder if any of the doctors there had my friend's case in mind when Dr. Gupta spoke there.
