Today Donald Trump went off on an inane rant claiming nobody remembers the name NAFTA. He which is why the name of his trade deal was inspired by the Village People’s YMCA...sort of.

Trump said, "I'm good at names, right? USMCA--like the song "YMCA." Now everybody says it. They don’t remember the previous name of the bad deal. Commonly known as NAFTA."

Speaking for myself, I didn't have much trouble in remembering the name NAFTA. Nor am I likely to associate USMCA with the Village People's hit.

For the record, Trump's USMCA is very much like NAFTA. You are unlikely to notice any difference. The changes, such that they are, are mostly the doings of congressional Democrats who demanded tougher labor and environmental protections and stronger enforcement provisions.

Trump's wordsmithing isn't limited to trade deals
Trump coins acronyms to promote world peace and better international relationships.

During a press conference Thursday, Trump was asked by a reporter to explain his comments and his complaint that Europeans aren't involved enough in solving the crises in the Middle East. Trump responded by sharing the name he came up with for a potential new alliance.

"And I actually had a name," Trump said. "NATO — right? And then you have 'ME' — Middle East. You’d call it, Natome."

“I said, ‘What a beautiful name,'” Trump continued, recounting an alleged conversation he had with NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg. "Natome".

"Natome" sort of rhymes with baloney.
